This guy didn't tell me the diagnostic was $198 until i had my car towed there. Thought that was pretty scum baggish. Then tells me I need a new motor in a car that was running days prior . Who knows. Then tells me he's gonna charge me if I don't get my car out of there by 3 o clock . These mechanics violate consumer law every which way. I'd think twice and no offense to the mechanic but when you do business like this I would warn any of my family members of the same thing . $198 to plug in the computer and print out a diagnostic ? The front desk staff are mechanics themselves and very knowledgeable. Though prices are a bit high, I recognize the challenges of operating a business in California. Recently, my old car broke down a couple of times, and a minor mistake by Davie's led to a few extra visits. But considering the car's age and the desert summer, I found the owner and staff receptive. They researched thoroughly, and we reached a fair, amicable solution. This was a total waste of money and time. I don't recommend this shop. I had taken my car to Davies years before and there were no issues. My brakes were squealing and making other noises soo went to Davies. I must say Elisabeth is very nice and helpful They had my car 2 full days and when I drove it home it still was making the same noise. I brought it back again for the whole day and again the problem wasn't fixed. They said the mechanic took it for a test drive but if he did he would have heard it. So I brought it back again. I found out he used after market parts My car is an Infinity and the third time they were supposed to have used Infinity parts. I had to take my car there at least 3 times one time for 2 days. 2- 3wks after I got it back the squealing returned. I never went back. Wasted my money. read more

I scheduled an appointment and arrived to find they weren't expecting me; they never entered it into the computer. I had to come back for a second appointment. My car spent three days at their shop, spending most of the time sitting on their lot. The end result? they wanted $600 to replace the battery, $800 to diagnose my car further, and $180 for the work they did so far. When talking with the mechanic, I realized he was guessing, not diagnosing. I pulled my car out of there immediately. On the drive home, I figured out what was wrong and was correct in my diagnosis (needed an air filter.) And I'm not even a mechanic! From now on, I'm going to my dealer for service. read more

Dave at Davies may seem like an okay guy, but be forewarned, he doesn't care about you, your car, or anything else other than getting your money. He put an expensive part in my car after i asked him not to and after 1200 was paid to him, refused to call me as he promised, return any of the three calls I placed to him, and apparently has no interest in standing by his work. Please do yourself a favor and find another mechanic or shop to fix your car, unless you just like paying extra for nothing. I'm afraid the folks at Davies are just another bunch of clowns that lack a conscience and could care less about their persistent betrayal of their customers trust. Shame on you Dave at Davies. I wasted my time on this place. First, the guy kept trying to sell me on a transmission flush. I had made an appointment for a drain and fill. Then I waited two hours only to be told that my 58K mile transmission is hard-shifting, and they won't perform the oil service. If you get a funny feeling at a place that they don't want your business unless it's on their terms, walk out. There's nothing wrong with my transmission and a simple, preventative drain and fill is a nothingburger. Shame! Edit: their mechanic claimed there was no transmission oil dipstick but reality is he didn't even look. read more

This is that mechanic service that is hard to find. I took my truck to the dealer and they quoted me a large price for numerous "critical" problems. I took it to Davies for a second look and they told me not even half the issues were needed to be repaired. They fixed the few issues that were needed and the cost was significantly lower. I later purchased a used car for my daughter and took it here to get looked at. They found some issues that needed to be fixed and pointed out areas that were optional but not needed. The prices were fair and reasonable. VERY happy with this business. read more

I must give my highest recommendation to Davies. I recently purchased a 2007 Jaguar X-Type Sport Wagon sight unseen from a dealership in Washington State. Although the Washington dealer performed an inspection, I wanted something more thorough to ensure roadworthiness. There were a couple of other items I needed Davies to take a look at after driving the car for a few weeks. I worked with Richard at the front office. Richard was in regular communication with me and we worked together to troubleshoot an air conditioning defect. We both scoured the internet and shared possible fixes with each other. Turns out the hack I found was not the fix, but Richard's discovery did the trick and the AC works perfectly now. It was nice doing business with Davies; they are friendly, knowledgeable, investigative, communicative, and have fair prices. I'll take my other vehicles to Davies without question. read more

This guy is a rip off. Do not take your car here. Let me tell you about my experience. I was a mechanic all my life until I retired. He gave me an estimate to diagnose for $146.95. No problem there. Perfectly acceptable. Next thing you know they say I need a new starter, battery, alternator, and that would still not fix my car. That it also had a short in it, but these things would need to be fixed first. Without my persmission and without an estimate they changed out my starter. I show up and they tell me what they did. I told them to take their part out. They charged me to take their part out that they had no permission changing to begin with. I had already paid my diagnostics fee and then I was charged $431.91 to get my car back. I took my car to another shop. Problem was a short on the ignition coil pack, and a short on the wiring harness from the harness to the computer. My old starter was reinstalled and worked perfectly fine. If you want to get ripped off, take these guys your car. The total I paid to get my car to actually get fixed at the other shop was $580. DAVIES wanted $1,600 just to change the parts that they wanted to change, and I would still have a short. Great job you guys, you are an embarrassment to the honest mechanics in this small valley. read more

AAA recommended Davies. My "check fuel cap" light was on. Davies charged me $139.95+ tax for computer testing/check engine light. Placed a $14 fuel cap on my car and charge me $28.79. Less AAA discount my new Fuel cap cost me $154.13, 4 trips and days without my car and they Did Not Fix the issue at all. Sent me to Pete's Automotive Service and that's when the Real Nightmare began. What a bunch of rip off artists. read more

Lackluster enthusiasm and mediocre service. Went in for the AAA free summer inspection and $60 oil change. They ended up charging me $112 and gave minimal feedback on findings. I had to prod to get any information on the condition of my car and it seemed like they could care less. These guys advertise free estimates over the phone. Called,discussed symptoms and possible cause. Most likely a clutch. He quoted $1,600 for a clutch, $1,800 for clutch and flywheel...fair enough! My sister in law towed had the car towed on two weeks later,February 21,2023.Wednesday February 22,2023 they checked the fluid and pushed on the pedal. Confirmed what was known. $138 for the diagnosis..fair enough. They texted my sister in law back confirming what we discussed. Dick,I mean Richard text a quote of $2,653.41. I rented a tow dolly and picked up the car that Friday. Harper's in yucca,$1,500. I highly encourage anyone who has been scammed or attempted scam by these folks. File a complaint with the bureau of automotive repair. It's real easy, online,simply state dates and facts. Oh and like Richard told me..good luck dude! I initially took my car to a dealer and they gave me a list of repairs I needed on my car. I about choked at what they were going to charge for the repairs. I asked a trusted neighbor where he took his vehicles and he told me about Davie's. I got the repairs done for almost half the cost the dealer would have charged and the mechanic at Davie's double checked to make sure the repairs were actually needed. My car has over 90,000 miles on it so things are wearing out, but since I found Davie's I don't feel bad about making the repairs to keep it going a bit longer. Also, everyone there is respectful and professional and let me know if the repairs are necessary immediately or if I can hold off for a short time. Best mechanic I've found in this area. read more

My car died on the 10 freeway on my way to a conference. I had it towed to Davies on Sunday, left the keys in the drop box, and got a call first thing Monday morning. After much waffling on my part (thought I might need to purchase a new car, then decided against a rash decision), I finally gave the OK to repair it. Dave had the car ready in a matter of hours, before they closed, giving me enough time to get back to LA at a reasonable hour. At no point was he pushy or impatient, and I'm pretty sure they even washed my car before I came to pick it up! Egg on my face. Shame on me for referring them. I never will again I had repeatedly told a friend a to go to Davies. I did that after seeing him be jerked around by his normal repair shop. BIG MISTAKE.they charged him $170 for a diagnosis After having it all day for a set appointment they called to say they still hadn't figured it out and needed an additional $170. At the end of the next day they said they had figured it out and for an additional $600 they could repair the issue. (Car was overheating). The next day after the "repair" they told him the problem wasn't what they thought it was and essentially said "we'll keep your money, all $900, now go back to your original repair shop. Bye bye, don't trip on your way out". To me it seems that at the very least, they should charge AT THE VERY MOST only the 2 fees for the diagnosis. A BAD diagnosis. It's like having a liver transplant and after surgery the doctor tells you " gee it wasn't your liver after; boy did I get that one wrong, here's my bill. You're welcome! " Bad job Davies. I wanted to like this place - it's close by and convenient. Receptionist was nice. But I had trouble with my car after it was given a routine service - serious trouble. Was able to get car repaired by someone who specialized in my car type. It could be that this auto service company does better with American made cars. Or maybe it was entirely coincidental that my car stopped working after the service here. Anyways, I will stay with the guy who got my car back on track - the car is still not perfect but at least I can drive it again. read more

Friendly, but a rip-off. I took my car to Davies to fix a knocking noise at the front of the engine. When I got the car back, they had replaced the idler arm pulley and radiator for $1600. Then I was surprised to find the knock was still there, and the radiator which never leaked previously was leaking. To top it off, the air conditioner didn't work afterward. Run away from Davies. I only wish I had a suggestion for a reliable shop. read more

I moved to Palm Springs a year ago and found Davies Auto Care through my AAA membership. I had taken my car to the Toyota dealership last month to have the oil changed and tires rotated. Toyota found a few big items that they say needed to be immediately replaced on my Rav4. I decided to get a second opinion. I took it to Davies Auto repair and Richard was the representative that helped me out. I was very impressed with how kind, patient, and honest he was with me. They looked over my car for 2 hours and explained that the repairs that were suggested were not needed at this time. He explained everything thoroughly and there was no charge for the 40 point inspection since I am with AAA. I was highly impressed with their level of service. I only have 55K miles on my car but it is 8 years old and whenever I do need repair and maintenance work done on my car I will definitely not hesitate to take it to Davies. On a side note when I was waiting for my cousin to pick me up while they checked out my car there was the sweetest couple originally from Wisconsin that told me they have been taking all of their cars to Davies since they moved out to the desert 11 years ago. They spoke at length about how honest and ethical they are. That sold me right there along with the customer service I got from Richard. It's hard to find a good mechanic and I'm so grateful to have found Davies so I wanted to pass this along to everyone because I feel good service needs to be highlighted.
