The employees were very professional and seemed to really know what they were doing and they were friendly and pleasant besides. I brought in a bracelet that was not fine jewelry, but had sentimental value to get it restrung. I was told they would put a knot or some thing between each bead to secure the beads in place, so if the string broke the beads would not I'll fall off. They charged me $55. The string broke the first time the bracelet was worn and the beads flew everywhere there were no knots between them. Lost most of the beads And my faith in the jeweler, they did say they would make it right if I brought it back but the beads scattered and many were lost so there are not enough to bring back . read more

I took in my Tag Heuer Carrera 01 watch for a cleaning and service. I went here because they sized one of my Omegas and one of my Brietlings and bragged about the skills of their in house watch repair specialist.The person I bought the Tag from said it was due for a service and was loosing a few minutes but was in perfect working order and everything on the watch was functional, which it was. I took it in and a Gabriel rep said it be ready in a week. They kept pushing it off by saying they were busy and needed more time. By the third week I was worried something was wrong. Week 4 after I dropped the watch off they called and said the watch was ready to pick up and their watch repair specialist said whoever worked on my watch in the past ruined it and my chronograph wasn't keeping exact time. He made it sound minor over the phone so I chalked it up to the downside of buying a preowned luxury watch and went to go pick it up. When I received my Tag, which again, was in perfect working order outside of loosing a few minutes, I noticed it was making an ugly grinding sound when I wound shake it, the buttons were sticky and the tachometer would not work at all!! The sales rep I was talking to didn't seem to know what a tachometer was, which is weird because he sells Breitlings. He told me there's nothing they could do and blamed the worsened state of my watch on previous repair work. He made it seem like I should feel lucky they didnt charge for the cleaning and service which is usually 300.. what a joke. So in conclusion, I took in a tag for cleaning and service which had all of its functions fully operational and I was given back a watch which makes grinding noises and a tachometer that no longer works. I sent it in Tag to see what damage was done to my watch and waiting for a response from them. I have many high end watches and they will never see or touch another one of my watches again. read more

I brought in.my soon-to-be engagement ring in (purchased online real gold but not.real stone) to be.sized. There was a fun conversation going on between another customer and the owner but then when the other customer left the owner --NOT THE GUY THAT WAS GOING TO BE WORKING ON IT-- Takes it and announces loudly "this is not diamond. It's stamped tiffany did you get it at tiffany?" I grew tired of this analyzing down talking my ring..so I said I came to get it sized not critiqued and valued...a jeweler worth his metal could.size a paperclip ring... The happy ending to the story is that the jeweler got my ring done in a few hours and it is beautiful work. However with the need to buy wedding bands etc I'm not certain I'd shop here...like if we were to select a simple band this guy would insult or comment on it. read more

I am unsure where to begin. I have had my ring for a week now, and have taken this time to make sure that I am calm and level headed while leaving this review. I could write pages of my awful experience here, but I will make a heroic attempt to keep this as short as possible. This review is based off my experience in having a CUSTOM ring created. I will acknowledge that Gabriel is an artist and has beautiful rings in his store to purchase. However, his style of rings are not what I like and had I known that my fiancé was going to have my ring created here, I would have told him NO. I truly wish that in the initial consultation, Gabriel had told my fiancé that the style ring I wanted was not something he usually did and he did not feel comfortable recreating the style I wanted. This honesty would have saved my fiancé and myself from a lot of heartache, disappointment, and frustration. It also would have created a lot of respect in the jeweler Gabriel. However, he promised my fiancé (and later myself) that the ring would be exactly like the photo given to him, it would "be exactly what you want". This promise was not fulfilled. I thought about giving the location two stars, simply because Gabriel seems to be a nice man, but I think about the fact that: 1. This process caused arguments between my fiancé and myself. 2. This process left me in tears, several times. 3. This process was supposed to provide me with a completed custom ring. My fiancé paid in full for the service, and sadly, I am having to take my ring to another store and pay additional costs just to get the ring made how I wanted in the first place. My fiancé placed his order with this business in the middle of December, it was very great of them to throw together a ring by Christmas, (very short notice), in order for my fiancé to propose to me. All the problems with this business started after I brought the ring back to be completed. The ring did not have any antiquing nor was the space between the diamonds filled in, but I was happy with the skinny band and the overall shape. We dropped the ring off with Gabriel on January 2, 2015. On that day, he discussed making the band thicker; I was very clear in the fact that it was already thicker than I wanted, (thicker than the picture) and to just leave the band alone. I was happy with it. Also, we discussed what would go between the diamonds. I kept calling them beads or balls, but he let us know that they were the tops of the settings, "prongs". He assured us he would have no problem putting them in, but he would need to remake the ring. He let us know the ring would be ready January 7, 2015! I was shocked that he was going to get it done that quickly. I figured the ring would be ready in February, maybe even March. Unfortunately, Gabriel would continue to set unrealistic dates like this. He would never call to say the ring was ready or not ready, sometimes we called, sometimes we just showed up and the ring would not be ready. They set and told us dates that were unrealistic and we would have really appreciated it if they would have chosen a date and stuck to it. Also, it would have been nice, if the ring were not going to be completed, for them to call and inform us that there was a delay. At one point, my fiancé picked up the ring, I was out of town for work, but he sent me a picture. Gabriel had decided to add white stones (my stone has black diamonds) AND he thickened the band. I later brought the ring back and spoke with him; I found out that he made that personal choice because he thought it needed something. I know life is full of disappointments and you don't always get what you want. However, we specifically paid for it to be exactly what I wanted and I never asked for white stones, I also specifically said that I wanted the band to stay the same. He promised he would correct the ring. However, my final pick up last week, the band was the same size. I feel that Gabriel cared more about what he wanted and what he thought looked nice, than what I actually wanted. I let him know that I wanted the ring to look thrashed and old and distressed, while I understand that is unusual...that is what I want. I feel comfortable leaving this review, because my fiancé's ring was also custom made (with a different jeweler). I ordered his ring AFTER my order was placed with Gabriel, I received my fiancé's ring on time and before my ring had been completed. His ring was perfect, everything that he asked for, down to the mm! The jeweler communicated everything to me, even without my asking. I wish that we could have had my ring made with this other jeweler. The ring finally ended up...similar. Like I said, I will have to pay another jeweler to do what Gabriel could not or would not do. I feel very cheated; also I feel that my fiancé was completely taken advantage of. I really hope that in twenty years I will be able to look at my ring with love and completely forget who made it and the annoyances read more

I would never go anywhere else! I had stopped by another Jeweler's shop down the street on McHenry who was supposed to be highly recommended as a 'custom jeweler', and I was completely turned off by his unprofessional conduct.
