And, after a single wash, the pillow cover stitching completely disintegrated. I was in a total panic; the covers were a thin, custom-colored fabric that isn't sold separately. When I reached out to other shops, I was quoted prices 3x what I actually paid for the couch just to restitch them. I finally found Raul after seeing a the exact service I was looking for on TikTok, and I'm so grateful I did. From the start, he was incredibly professional, responsive, and honest. He knew exactly how to handle the delicate material and offered a very fair, reasonable price to get them back in one piece. Raul brought my couch back to life! I've had my Crate & Barrel couch for nearly 7 years and after years of using the couch for the family and occasional bed for out of town guests, it was lumpy, flat and the back cushions were beyond droopy. Crate and Barrel quoted $1600 to refluff the cushions (!) but I couldn't justify spending that amount; might as well get a new couch altogether! But I wasn't ready to trade in the couch so I did some research and found Gaby's; the reviews were awesome and everyone sang Raul's praises. I sent Raul photos of the couch with its measurements and he called me the next morning to discuss an estimate so I brought in the cushions the same day. I initially called Gaby's to replace the stuffing in my (very large) couch cushions and even over the phone they were able to quote me prices at varying levels of stuffing (giving me different price range options). I decided to stop in with my cushions and Raul helped me right away, hauling in my cushions and walking me through pricing. The quote he gave me was the exact amount he charged (no surprises) and it only took three days to get the job done! The morning the couch was to be ready- he texted me to confirm a time and I really appreciated the extra communication. To give a rough estimate - I have a large sectional 10' x 4' (with another 4' extension) and for the bottom and back cushions restuffed. I also got new inserts for the bottom cushions because the prices were so good. The total was less than $700 for basically a "brand new" couch. I'm so happy I used Gaby's and wish I gone sooner. While visiting LA, I happened to walk past this shop after having breakfast and on my way back to my Airbnb. I am so very happy that I did! It turned out to be a wonderful experience. I met Raul who listened to what I was looking for and showed me exactly what I wanted. It was such a perfect match, that I said I would like to buy two of them. When he realized that he only had one in stock, he asked if I would mind waiting a little while, so he could make me another one. Could I wait a short while to get exactly what I wanted?!? Of course! While watching him work, I appreciated the movements of a real craftsman. This is a guy who's been doing this a long time. It was very nice of him to allow me the check the amount of down fill in my pillow was exactly how I liked it before he stitched it closed. If you are picky about your pillows, and I am because I like to get a good night's sleep, then this is the place for you! I commented on how nice his scissors are and that I remember buying my mother a quality set of scissors way back in the 1980's. Would you believe that he sells scissors as well? Yep, I ended up buying a nice set of high carbon steel, made in Japan scissors as well. They weren't cheap, which is why I bought them. They are likely the last set of scissors I'll ever buy in my lifetime and I'm quite certain that someone will still enjoy them long after I am dead! Now that I'm back in New York I still think back, to the day I happened by this shop while visiting LA, most every time that I use those scissors or pillows. I found the prices to be reasonable, the quality to be fantastic, and the service to be wonderful. Wow! What a find! My beloved Montauk slipcover chair from 2002 was getting awfully flat. The frame was fine, and Montauk offered to restuff the cushions for a mere $1000 (a new one costs $4000), so I took to Yelp to find someone local. When I took the 3 pillows and seat cushion to Raul, I was hoping he'd say maybe $400, ready in 4 weeks? Instead, he said $100, ready later that afternoon. Yeah! Fantastic, I believe was the word that just audibly come out of my mouth when Raul handed me my first pillow. I had an old couch, the pillows were flatten by my dog and I decided to look for a new one. After a few weeks and some furniture showrooms later I decided I wanted to keep my couch and just re-stuff the pillows. I was referred to Gaby's by a local high end reupholstery shop.
