Best pizza... bring back childhood memories everytime I'm back in my old neighborhood

CASH ONLY I am a native Chicago-an. The amount of vitriole I receive about Chicago Deep Dish feels inordinate. ya'll is bullies ;) But I have to say, this is the closest thing I have ever had to the perfect NY slice. Oh my bad, pizza. Pizza. Glorious, beautiful pizza. The NY slice. Sublime in its simplicity. Cheese. Only cheese. Everything about this just comes together in perfect unity. Like a koombaya chorus. Like Handel's Messiah. Like a shake shack burger. The cheese is fresh and gooey, but doesn't strip itself naked after an unfortunate bite (I only like this in a certain context, but for gods sake, not with my cheese). The dough and crust is - words cannot describe - but somehow, they found the perfect mix of gooey and crispy. And wonderfully foldable. the quintessence of the New York slice. I don't even f*cking talk this way usually, but I feel the need to be poetic. Or attempt to, at least. And the sauce. cot dam. the sauce. Sweet. Tangy. Robust. SAT 101 Vocab words do not fail me now. Just try it, please. I can't really have any other pizza in NY anymore (Though I hear Lucia is competition, something to bookmark). Joe's Pizza might suffice during a drunken stupor. Luzzo's hits the bougie-er moments. Grimaldi's for the experience. But Gaby's. Sweet Gaby's. I never questioned my allegiance to Chicago Deep dish. And in all honesty, it is apples to oranges. Bottom Line: I remember this place being a go to? It's okay. Food: The sauce is so good but their dough is really hard to get through. It's way too thick which takes away from the authenticity of it, and it was absolutely no flavor! If the owners are reading this... please take note because I think it could be a good thing for your business! My mom said it was too bread "y" but I took to what I knew from back in the day. She was right! And then another friend said the same thing.... he was right! The garlic knots were just okay. Because the dough is flavorless, there wasn't much to it. Gaby's Gaby's Gaby's. Everyone swears by Gaby's Pizza. There's always been a huge debate in Queens as to which shop has the best pizza, Gaby's or Margarito's. I've eaten at both over the years, but can't quite remember which one I prefer being that it's been a minute since I've had a slice from both. Here's a quick review of my most recent slice from Gaby's. What you have is a well balanced pizza. It's a chewy cheesy "Brooklyn" slice. You got the scorching hot cheese that's falling off the pizza. A slightly Sweet and Tangy Sauce. The sauce is a smidgen thicker than what you'd expect on a typical slice. Definitely not the cheap watered down tomato sauce you get from random pizza shops. The Crust is Crusty . Not to Crispy. Not to Fluffy. Good slice. Very Enjoyable. But nothing that legends are made of like the critiques would have you think. Good Slice. Good Stuff. read more

This pizza has a unique addictiveness to it. I love it! I think it is the tangy sauce and the loads of cheese that go on the pies. It is a saucy pizza. The neighborhood it is in can be intimidating, however there is a free parking lot where you can easily find parking and enjoy a slice of thier heavenly pizza. There is also usually uniformed new york city police officers parked in front or even inside enjoying some food. Really good pizza here! We ordered the special for $22 for four of us and we barely finish the whole pie. It was a 15 min. wait for a fresh pie but well worth it. I was surprised that they didn't burn the bottom of the pie. It was cooked just right. I am not sure what the hype is about. I heard great things about Gabby's Pizza but I wasn't impressed. It was some of the worse pizza I have ever had. The crust was doughy and the flavor lackluster. I have had better 'New York' pizza outside of New York than Gabby's. I have heard Gabby's Pizza was on some TV shows and have received lots of accolades. GABYs is perhaps one of the most underrated pizzerias in nyc. It is probably due to the location but all the locals around town know it. I used to work around here and GABY's is still my # 1 Pizza spot. Just stop by, take a bite of their cheese slice and you'll know what i'm talking about. Some pizzerias specialize in the cheese, while some is all about the sauce. GABYs is both !! Other two noted dishes that is superb is the Lobster Ravioli and Eggplant parmigan with Ziti. The Eggplant parm is different from how i've ever had it. It is crispy and not deep fried so its crispy yet not greasy. My mom doesn't normally eat eggplant but she loves this and couldn't really tell it was eggplant!! The ziti also has a great texture to it and the marinara sauce tastes so fresh and tangy. CASH ONLY! I know this might not be the best town in Queens but during the day it's pretty safe and busy. It is located in a shopping plaza so there is free parking ! I've been going to Gaby's occasionally for a good chunk of my life. Let me just be clear and say that Gaby's makes a really good slice. I'm partial to the chicken and tomato slice. HOWEVER, it is not close to being the best. It's probably the best in Hollis and Jamaica, but that's really it. Anyone who says it is definitely has to diversify where they go and try some new places. As others here have said, some of the staff handle money and pizza without washing their hands. That's enough for me to usually stop going somewhere, but this really is the only decent slice to get in the neighborhood. That being said, I'll go to Gaby's only if I'm craving a slice and don't want to travel far or if my friends are there. read more

They're pizza has always been the best and I have yet to find one that compares to how savory it is. The only down fall is that over the years the prices has gone up and it seems like the slices have gotten smaller but, it has always tasted amazing! I've been stopping by here for a slice, or getting a pie delivered, since 2002. They make a nice, solid, typical, New York style cheese pizza. You won't be disappointed. Heard a lot of buzz about this Pizza place (thanks, Ms. Ray!) and since it's basically in my backyard, it was worth a try. Ordered a regular and a Sicilian slice. Was good, but completely unmemorable. Crust on the regular was pale and soft rather than crispy. I've had some cathartic pizza before (Umberto's for regular, Rosa's for Sicilian) and Gaby's does not measure up. It's tasty. Good. But I would not plan a trip to go there just for the pizza. Almost everyone in Queens has heard of Gaby's Pizza. It's one of those iconic pizzerias you have to check out at least once. It's located in an outdoor shopping center and looks like any other pizzeria. When you enter, there's usually always at least a short line to order, however it moves quickly. I usually stop in for a quick bite before or after grocery shopping. I've tried many items off the menu here. My favorites have been the buffalo chicken slice, spinach Alfredo slice, and the Sicilian slice. I've also had their pastas but those are hit or miss for me...some I've enjoyed and some were extremely mediocre to say the least. This review is for the 20 years that I have been a patron of this establishment. As far as pizza is concerned the dough to to sauce and cheese ratio is near perfect. When hot the dough is soft and plentiful which allows balance for soaking up the delicious sauce (which is the of winner of each slice). Over the years the overall consistency of the pizza has held up except for the cheese. I don't know of its the use of cheese with a higher milk content or the use of cheese thats not as fresh but when the cheese colds it becomes doughy and inedible. Now for the reason of the 2 star review. There customer service is horrific! Especially since they were featured on the Rachel Ray show, they could care less if you stay as loyal customer or never come back. Up to the delivery drivers that always request more tips even after delivering just warm food, everyone that works at this pizzeria is rude, rude, rude! Today really put the icing on the cake. I ordered a pizza at 5:44pm; lets keep in mind I live less than a mile away from the pizzeria. After 3 attempts calling to cancel the order due to the amount of time it was taking to be delivered and them telling me (rudely by the way) that it is on the way and if the pie arrives cold they will send a new pie. The driver arrived at 7:33pm. The driver called my phone to let me know he arrived where I told him I had already canceled the order to which he replied, "seriously" hung up on me and drove away. This is by far amazing. It supersedes any pizza spot in Queens. If you come here , you're leaving with a whole pie! And maybe some sides. So I ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza that was stellar. The lasagna is amazing. The sauce to cheese ratio is great. Tip! If you are traveling far you could call ahead and they will freeze it for your long journey home! Finally had the infamous Gaby's I went there two days in a row because I was in the neighborhood. The first day I came I ended up getting a plain slice. My initial though was "wow is this what all the hypes about?" I kept eating it and then decided that it is definitely better than most but it wasn't the best pizza I have ever eaten. So ... Sauce: Very savory and robust, tasted like it had hints of oregano and a little salt maybe a tiny bit of sugar to balance it out... I loved it no complaints here, it was definitely saucy, it wasn't globy it was more of a runny consistency which I actually enjoyed because paired with the cheese which I will be getting to... It was just fun to eat lol Cheese: The cheese seemed like it was of quality but it was definitely oily but I mean its cheese so you get what you get. Pizza is probably not the best to eat if your on a diet. I must say though, it was really stringy and it didn't break mid pull, that cheese probably could've been pulled all the way down the block, I loved that. Crust: It had a really good chew, I prefer my crust slightly chewy and this did that for me. It wasn't burnt nor was it undercooked. Ok everything seems fine right so why did I give it 3 stars? I honestly prefer pizza that has the coal oven taste, not only that... The second day I went there I did not get the same quality as the first time and Im huge on consistency. Stopped in Gaby's pizza tonight because the wait was too long at my favorite place Cara Mia. Gaby's is mainly takeout joint, but there is plenty of seating. You order upfront and have a seat the waitress brings your meal. Gabys is a busy place with lots of children running around. The service upfront can be a little hectic, waitress who brings out the food was friendly. I had their pizza before and it was very good. Tonight we had spinach ravioli & lasagna. 1 star for the pie and 5 stars for the slice. I know the statement above is odd, but they treat people's pie horribly. If you purchase a slice, its perfectly cooked, the taste is amazing, and the cheese is in tack. But every single time I've purchased a pie, the cheese is slopped around, the bread texture is awful, and the taste is lacking. Every time I purchased a pie to go, I would treat the box carefully. Finally the last I purchased a pie, I opened the box before walking out. Yep, the cheese was lopsided. One time I bought 6 slices and the owner (or manager) said "you should get a whole pie ..." and I wanted to say "your pies suck," but I chickened out and said "no, thank you" Their pizza is absolutely amazing, hence, why I've tried way too often to purchase a pie. This place just does not provide the same amount of TLC for those purchasing a pie to go. Once again, amazing pizza, you'll be hooked, but don't even think about purchasing a pie to go.
