This is, by far, the worst service I have ever experienced. I was really pulling for this place. I wanted it to succeed. I told everyone about it, that it was some of the best pizza in New York. I gave them so many chances. Last night was the final straw. Made a reservation for Friday night at 8PM. We arrived at 8:05. The waitress who's basically always there, who sounds like she smokes about a pack a day, was the only waitress there that night. I felt for her, but also, not my problem. We didn't receive water or a full set of utensils and menu until about 8:15. At about 8:25, she took our order, and we ordered a few apps and calzone and pizza. I had to ask for my coke about 4 times until she remembered to bring it. Water was NEVER refilled. We were never asked if we were ok. Around 8:50, we finally received our apps. It was ok, they've made it better in the past. Ambiance was starting to die down as the restaurant was clearing out. We felt a bit bad for her, but also, this wasn't our fault, that they were unprepared for a Friday night rush (her words). By 9:15, we were furious and our moods were ruined. We sat down at 8:05, ordered before 8:30, we were the only ones left and our pizza and calzone were yet to be found. Shortly before 9:30, it arrived. And again, it was pretty good, but not wait over an hour for it good. I wanted this place to succeed. The pizza maker from Italy deserves a better crew. The waitress doesn't know how to be a waitress, at all. No apologies, not taking anything off the check, not checking on us. There's no busboy, no one dedicated to take out, no manager. It seems that everyone plays each others roles, and quite poorly. They've lost a loyal customer tonight. We will NEVER give this place another try. read more

What started out as a snafu, turned into a lovely afternoon. We arrived for our reservation for 15 people on a snowy afternoon to find only 1 person working and no record of our reservation. Alessandro was wonderful and worked so hard to accommodate us all by himself. We decided to keep it simple and order a bunch of pizzas to share as well as a family style salad. Pizza was served one type at a time, it felt like a pizza tasting menu and I loved every second of it. We started off the the Margherita, which was simple and delicious. His dough is perfectly springy and light, but also has great flavor as does the sauce. Prosciutto Pie included mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto and shaved Parmigiano cheese. Another delicious version, you can feel the high quality of the ingredients with this one. Salsiccia Pie used a spicy soppressata, tomato sauce and mozzarella. It's hard to believe but each "course" seemed to be better than the last. Svetonio Pie has meatballs, tomato sauce, ricotta, crispy pancetta, kalamata olives and basil. This was the most complex pie in terms of flavors, but they all worked so well together. The Arugula Salad with cherry tomato red onion, mozzarella cubes was the perfect acidic accompaniment to the pizzas. The restaurant itself is small and rustic, but it felt so homey and made for a perfect spot for our little celebration. Everyone agreed the pizza was excellent all around. Came in with high expectations from what I've seen online. First off, Hazel was phenomenal as our waitress - she was so friendly, helpful with recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed during our entire time at Picciotto. The appetizers we started with were amazing - especially the Caponata & Panelle which were new to us but received universal praise. The bread was incredible as well. I had the Buffalo Basil Cherry pizza which had a nice flavor, and others had the margherita pizza, penne al salmone, and the Salsicciotti al Vino Rosso. The entrees got strong reviews, but the pizzas were a bit disappointing - would have liked a little more char to the crust, which was pretty floppy and soft, and the margherita needed a little more flavor to the sauce. I've eaten here/gotten takeout a solid 25 times now. My husband & I LOVE, love, love the riceballs- soo crunchy, fried to perfection. I also love the caprese salad, it's so fresh and delicious. A quaint and charming neighborhood gem offering classic Italian fare - think freshly made pastas and artisanal Wood fire pizza right in Douglaston! It's a must try! This was my second time tasting their delicious food. First time was a delivery order and it really impressed me - flavors were so authentic. I knew I had to go in person the next chance I had an opportunity to. My hubby and I dined in on a Saturday night, around 8pm. There was a live band that was playing music most of the evening; apparently they are there every Saturday. It was nice to have dinner and live music ( that kept our conversation to a minimum because it was hard to hear one another over them, lol). No matter, the food and the atmosphere was a nice dinner experience. Do make a note of the specials posted on the blackboard. We didn't think to ask and missed the sign walking in. Our waitress gave us time with the menu (she didn't mention the specials either, oops). To be fair, there was only one waitress left by the time we were served. I saw the other leave as we were eyeing the menu. We started with the soup of the day - Lentils and that was perfect on a cold and blustery evening. The bowl was quite large, great for us to share and the waitress was so thoughtful, she brought us two spoons! I secretly was not going to share but seeing it was that big of a bowl, I had to. It was served with thin strips of freshly baked breadsticks. Soft baked with a nice fire-kissed color. For dinner we decided to divide and conquer to get the best of the menu - one classic Italian pasta and one wood fire pizza. We were undecided between the Yelp photos and menu descriptions - asked the waitress for what was most recommended. For the pasta, it was a no brainer - Bucatini al Formaggi. It was perfectly al dente, creamy bechamel and all the cheeses blended in (so good) and just the right amount of black pepper. The crispy pancetta was the chef's kiss on top. Perfect! For the pizza, we went with the Boscaiola - sweet sausage, mushroom, red onions and shaved parmesan. Served thin crust - and it was a beautiful medley of flavors. My boyfriend brought me to this hidden gem in Douglaston. I can't believe I've never been here. It really feels like you're in Italy. We ordered potato croquettes, rice balls, and a pie of buffalo basil cherry tomato. I enjoyed the rice balls more than the potato croquettes. Still both were good. As for the pizza, the dough is delicious. It's brick oven pizza and they do not put tomato sauce on the pizza, yet it was still great. For dessert, tiramisu and pistacho gelato. Amazing! Glad to see this restaurant is still around. Foot traffic is steady, especially due to it's proximity to the LIRR and the bike shop next door. Great place to wait for the train or your bike. While things are made fresh, keep your expectations in check. Here, everything is made fresh to order, so expect a small wait time. (I have heard that the feel is reminiscent of a cafe in Sicily.) On this visit, we tried the smoke salmon panini and the Quattro stagioni pizza. Both were on the saltier side, due to the addition of olives. While we should have factored that in when deciding to order them together, we found the panini a little too salty. Smoked salmon, + pesto + olives sounds great, but it was way too salty when combined together. The ricotta and zucchini were not enough to offset to saltiness, maybe if there was more ricotta spread in there it would balance better. The pizza was great, but when hot. Due to the thin crust, and the hearty addition of toppings, it got a little floppy in the middle, so you may want to consider eating this pizza the traditional Italian way, with a fork and knife. (Temporarily break that New Yorker habit of eating the slice with your hands, lol.) I'd still recommend and would return, especially if I have the time to sit and enjoy the meal. read more

Our favorite Italian restaurant in Queens. We came here the week that it opened and the service/quality of food is still the same- excellent. The chef is extremely kind and passionate about his product. Our favorite dishes are the lobster ravioli, the salmon penne, any of the pizzas and honestly any of the tapas. A slice of Sicily can be found in Bayside. Picciotto was probably one of the best dining experience I've had most recently. A gem... a true hidden gem. In the window you will see Chef Alessandro, straight from Sicily, tirelessly making pizza, pasta and paninis. And each thing that is made by Chef Alessandro was just as delicious as the next. From the ricotta bucatini to the spicy sopressata pizza, my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. What I really can't wait to go back for is the Nutella pie. I never had it covered with another piece of crust before and I will never go back. Also stuffed with strawberries, this is the best Nutella pizza I've had to date. We dined outside but I can't wait to come when it's cooler to sit and eat inside. The inside is adorable. The plates look like they came from a small Italian cafe. Hopefully, the meaning of Picciotto I found on Google hinting at some connection with La Cosa Nostra in meaning is not correct because I was not thrilled with the food. Let me start with the positive, which is that their Nutella strawberry pizza is very yummy!! Their Veggie Panini was also pretty good. But we did not come here for those dishes; we came for pizza and pasta and unfortunately, those were problematic. Their Margherita pizza was nothing special in terms of flavor but the real problem was the Penne al Salmone, which was way too salty. In contrast, the lasagna was pretty bland. We came soon after it opened for lunch so maybe that was the issue but unfortunately, I do not think we will be back to see if that was the issue. read more

I ordered her last night for dinner, since it was not to far from my house, and the reviews were surprising better than other pizzerias in the area. I order 2 pepperoni pies and they were more like personal pizzas, I would say one pie would be enough for 2 adults. I arrived at the restaurant to pick up my pizza, the man who was among the pizza was extrémate friendly and made sure I was good before I left. When we tried the pizza, it tasted unlike a New York slice, not in a bad way, but fresh, authentic, felt I was in Italy eating a pie by the river. Best pizza in NYC? I think so! This is a secret small spot in Douglaston that blows under the radar but deserves so much more attention. Pies are thin but flavor packs a punch. The sauce and cheese are so well proportioned that it creates a perfect symphony on a pie. The sauce is sweet and savory, and the cheese is so fresh. Costs around 14-20$ a pie depending on toppings. The size is a bit smaller than what I'm used to, it like a 12-14 inch versus big sized pies in Manhattan, but the you can taste the ingredients and difference in the freshness. read more

Came back for a late lunch on Saturday, sat inside. First it was a nice day but AC was off and even with windows opened there was not enough breeze, it was extremely warm inside. While there were only about 5-6 tables occupied inside and out, the service was poor. Waited forever just to get menus, then water, then to order, we still didn't get utensils until the apps arrived and had to ask for them like everything else. The lady at another table got up to get her own utensils and napkin at one point. We got the garlic shrimp app, arrived with regular bread not focaccia and no sauce as listed. When asked the waitress said the chef changed the menu, I just think it should be updated to reflect such. The shrimp itself was not very garlicky, the sauce was watery and too acidic. Was not a hit for us. Ordered the arancini again which was tasty just a bit over fried this time. The pizza (Buffalo, Basil, Cherry) was tasty except mostly soggy. This was a big difference from the first pie we got which was perfectly crispy but I believe it's from the toppings. Just wanted to share with the chef/owner so he is aware of some of the negatives we encountered this visit. He is a lovely man but the service and food was a step down this time. read more

I went here last night with my friends. It was my first time visiting the restaurant, The place was very cozy and all the waitress were very sweet and welcoming. We ordered caponata and Arancini Siciliana. I personally like caponata, it's made with eggplants, so delicious. Then we had prosciutto pizza and salsiccia pizza which recommended by the waitress. They both are so tasty. The pizza curst is so thin and soft. Then, we had tiramisu for desserts. It's not too sweet, very refreshing after pizza. I ordered classic calzone to take out for my sons. Good pizza, but unfortunately not outstanding or phenomenal for a couple of reasons. I ordered the prosciutto pizza and the sausage pizza here, the wait here was extremely long for me, but to their credit they were extremely busy and working on what appeared to be an incredibly tiny pizza oven, no big deal since I was in no hurry that day. Pizza came and I was excited since I've only tried a prosciutto pizza in Europe. The prosciutto pizza here was eye opening, the combination of their cured meat, parma cheese, arugula and olive oil drizzle was absolutely divine, all the flavors worked in complete harmony and magic that is indescribable. The other pizza though was not as memorable and fell slightly on the more average side. Where both pizzas could have used a little work? That crispiness of the bread just wasn't there, the pizza fell flat due to the sogginess of the bread used to create it. We started off with the Caponata[Eggpant] and Panella (fritters) Also had the Arancini Siciliana which was one of the best I have had filled with meat. We tried really hard to like this place because: a) it's local and convenient b) we love pizza and c) it's authentic and run by an Italian from Sicily who seems passionate about his pizza and food. Unfortunately we won't be going back... the back room was freezing even though they had heaters, and more importantly we both got sick after eating there.
