I had dinner in a group of eight Friday night and lunch Saturday in a group of nine. First they split checks so that was really helpful. I don't remember if a tip was added already like most groups pay but I tipped again both meals.u The dinner meal I only had wine because I'm fasting for Lent at supper time. Others meal were super from what I saw and planned. Lunch I had the jerked chicken sandwich and broccoli on the side with an IPA beer from Asheville. It was really good. Caveats: check your bill. Waitress had added a second beer on my ticket. Also the tip question. Also for the meal it wasn't so much jerked chicken as it was spicey goop inbetween fancy bread. The outdoor patio is nice, with plentiful seating. And the draft beer selection is pretty decent. But the good news ends there unfortunately. The food was mediocre at best. The Beer Can Shrimp was bland. It was cooked to a good consistency and served at a good temperature, but it was severely lacking in flavor. Even the butter and cocktail sauce weren't enough to salvage it. The hushpuppies were $8 of disappointment. We left half of them uneaten, and had no interest in getting a to-go box for the rest of them. They were just dry fried cornbread. No sweetness. No flavor. My wife had the Beyond Burger, and it was equally meh, and was accompanied by massive and uninspiring french fries. We've had better Beyond Burgers cooked at home on the stove. That's a low bar for quality, but Gaffer's fell short of even that low bar tonight. read more

Who wants to wait until the food gets cold to start eating with their family? And the prices! Don't get me started! They are thieves! They are so misleading! They don't tell you they are going to charge for every extra sauce, every mayo, and there's a reason they don't put the prices of the drinks on their menu. $15 for a margarita? Who do they think they are? Then when I get the bill, no one warned me about a surcharge for using a card. Like they didn't charge me enough already? When this place first opened I was not impressed. The fries were gross and cold, the crab dip was too small of a portion for the price, and the waitress was one of the worst I've ever had. But eventually I decided to give it another chance and I am glad I did. The rude waitress no longer worked there and the food was much better the second time around. I love the music that they play and I love that you can sit outside to eat. I do wish they weren't bar top tables. I am short and sitting at tables like that is very uncomfortable. I have had their chef salad, crab dip, mozzarella balls, nachos, fries, sweet potato fries, tater tot appetizer, two different kinds of hamburgers, club sandwich, roasted turkey sandwich, and the special one day that was steak quesadillas. Everything that I have had there has been excellent and it is now one of my favorite places to eat. My husband loves it there too. He always orders something with seafood and has never been disappointed. read more

Front desk at hotel said this is the place for dinner and it was THE PLACE for dinner. It was awesome. Wife had Mahi tacos which I had to try and oh boy, were they good. They had a prime rib special the night we were there and I'm serious when I say it has to be top 3 I have ever had in my life if not the best. My husband and I visit the Atlantic Beach area once or twice a year. We visited this year right before the start of the summer season. We have had pleasant dining experiences in the past but were extremely disappointed by our latest visit. We ordered the blackened shrimp nachos. The shrimp had a frozen shrimp funky taste and were inedible. Upon recommendation from our server we ordered the seafood pasta and lobster stuffed mahi mahi. We were given the tourist treatment and steered toward the more expensive dishes on the menu which were utterly underwhelming. The seafood pasta had the same funky shrimp and the pasta was in a cream sauce with no flavor. The stuffed mahi mahi was dry and overcooked, the filling tasted like hot cream cheese. We immediately sent back the mahi mahi and were forced to speak with the manager. The manager insisted on giving us a gift card for the cost of the entree rather than remove it from our bill. We felt obligated to come back to Gaffers and when we used our gift card it was not even for the full cost of the entree we had sent back.I enjoyed the ambiance and live music at Gaffers but unfortunately they have no concept of customer service so we will not be wasting our money here. read more

My family went there the other night. Service was great. Food was disappointing. We have been here numerous other times and it has been great. I ordered blackened tuna and it came out very rare with blackening spice sprinkled on top. It was supposed to be blackened tuna medium. Another person ordered the seafood pasta. His food didn't show up approximately 10 minutes after ours arrived. The sides that came with our dishes were lukewarm. The manager did apologize and offered 1/2 price for the seafood pasta. 200.00 later a very disappointing meal. Sad as the place used to be great. read more

Went for lunch at 11am, typically when restaurants in the area begin serving. We were told breakfast/brunch was served until 12pm-12:30pm and lunch options were not available. Before we went we consulted the website and there was no indication of this being the case. Giving three stars because we left and didn't eat. Cant really judge in that case. Just a suggestion, you have plenty of retirees and early eaters in the area. Maybe serve lunch earlier. Or at-least let us order lunch food while serving breakfast food. read more
