The hostess told us that they close at 9 pm and that we would have a 40 min wait. We said okay. She said the kitchen closes at 10 pm; again okay. I took my grandparents to Gaffer's and we had Avery as our waitress on the 23 of May 2024. she was amazing she was so nice and made us feel welcome.Avery also gave us time to se what we wanted and to drink our drinks. It was very crowded and the restaurant doesn't follow social distancing recommendations so if you are concerned about Covid keep that in mind. I will say that the wait staff were all wearing masks as appropriate We ordered the nachos and the Pamlico shrimp entree'. The nachos seriously need nacho cheese. They were just too dry. The cheese melted on them solidified and glued everything together. I am a local and have grown up on fresh seafood my whole life. The shrimp were good but they were not any better than what I could fix myself at home. It is quite over priced but all restaurants in this area are. 2 people having dinner and drinks here will easily top $100. The menu boasts hand-cut fries but they are really frozen steak fries. Down East Clam Chowder is the best I have ever eaten. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great.

I debated writing this review just because I don't want it to get any busier but Gaffers has the best food on the island. The blackened shrimp nachos are to die for! I crave them! Their specials are also terrific because they're innovative, delicious and you just never know what tastiness you're going to discover. It's a must! DECEPTIVE PRICING: the menu shows "CASH PRICES" for each item but nowhere does it disclose that - nor is there a sign in the restaurant telling you this - nor does the wait staff tell you this at any point during the meal. Only when the bill arrives, if you even happen to notice that the prices are higher than menu prices and ask about it (as my wife did) does the wait staff mention this. This is the most deceptive pricing practice I've ever encountered at a restaurant (and we eat at lots of restaurants)!! And this has ticked me off so much that the decent food and service doesn't even matter to me! read more

Tuna was fresh, ice cold, lightly seared and delicious! I only wish they had topped it with far more diced mango, its a perfect compliment to the spicy wasabi. Also ordered fried oyster basket. The oysters were on the small side and slightly overcooked. The music outside is way too loud! Diners were yelling to be heard by others at the same table. Went there twice while visiting the area. The service is attentive and very friendly. The decor and atmosphere is excellent, they even has live music on a Wednesday before thanksgiving. Something happened about 6 months ago ....notable staff gone, owner was not as evident, now not present at all . A great , truly dedicated, knowledgeable, consumer friendly person makes Gus is truly missed . Whatever the reason he's give , was a mistake . Food is slowly going down hill . Tonight was probably our last visit to Gaffers . We ordered the tuna as an appetizer. When it was delivered , I noticed the tuna looked brown , not at all pink . The entrees are bland, over priced and not well executed. I had the "special" Parmesan crusted flounder tonight. It was soggy, over breaded and not hot when served. When I complained about it the waitress made excuses for the chef that night; but offered to do nothing to make amends for a bad dish. This definitely the most popular place in EIB and is $$$$, but we'll worth it. Inside and Outside dining and bar area is great. The only negative is the parking, they're sort of landlocked on that, so get there early if possible. I recommend to the owner to see if they carn carve out out a designated Golf Cart Parking elsewhere if possible and not in the main parking lot. Typical vehicle parking spaces are 9-ft wide. Golf carts do not need a 9ft spot. Anyway, great place have always enjoyed it! read more
