Very nice place in an old train station. Unassuming until you have the steak au poivre or the crab stuffed salmon... Second best au poivre I've had on my life, and I've had a LOT... Salmon was fantastic. Bread was so-so. Staff was nice but could be more professional. (At one point the busboy just "plopped" the bread onto the table)... Service was laid-back but the Old Fashions were above average. Plenty of parking and casual to semi romantic ambiance. Overall, worth the time, effort and cost. read more

Made reservations two weeks in advance. Arrived with our large party and was told they missed our reservation and it would be at least 30 mins - waited 45 mins and was finally seated. Explained to staff we had tickets to a show at the Pollard and would need to hurry and immediately ordered once seated. (Our reservation was for 2 hours before the show) We were 10 mins late to the show and they were no longer letting folks in so we missed the entire first act. Extremely frustrating. The Pollard was so kind and gave us free tickets good for an entire year to come back to any show and apologized on Gages behalf even though they have no affiliation with them to my knowledge. read more

3.5 stars Really neat place in the old historic Santa Fe Depot where there is still an active rail line right outside. Clean restaurant and clean bathrooms. Very nice staff. But it lacks the professionalism you'd expect with an average plate of ~$30. The food tasted good, but it is forgettable. My wedge salad was fine but it was like something I could have gotten at a cafeteria. My medallions were tasty but not cooked the way I ordered them. I ordered medium and they came out rare; like purple rare. As a nursing mother I scarfed it down anyway. Not picky at this time in my life. My husband got the grilled steak medium and it was also cooked rare but he liked it none the less. His sides were odd in that he got 3 asparagus and 4 pieces of carrot. Not sure if they are trying to go for a fine dining portion size but this place is not fine dining. The trains are a really neat feature but do make it a little difficult to hear your table mates when they roll by. Wait staff was very nice but a little overly friendly and very forgetful. They are all your typical Guthrie locals which mean they are good down to earth people, but need some training on how to serve without making themselves part of the party. The two servers we saw running around had tons of tattoos and facial piercings. Eek. Not what you want at a nicer restaurant. Last thing, we had paid for our meal and we were sitting and visiting with one another at our table (still waiting on drink refills) and our waitress comes up to us with an extra ticket saying "I forgot to put one of your dishes on your ticket so here it is. Please pay this. Sorry about that." LOL WHAT? We were celebrating my in-laws 36 wedding anniversary and they got a free dessert but then had to pay a second ticket because the waitress messed it up...definitely not fine dining. Just strange and it shows the lack of knowledge in customer service etiquette. Won't come back here most likely which is sad because it has SO much potential to be a very nice restaurant in a rodeo town. read more

Drove from south OKC to have dinner on a Friday night with 6 other friends. Reservations highly recommended. Location is the former Guthrie Train Station. It's cute. There seems to be free ample parking in the 3 areas, maybe 4 on and around the property. Cute interior as they tried to stay true to the structure. I was there in 2007 during Oklahoma's 100th Anniversary as a state. There was a special train for the legislators to ride from OKC to Guthrie to take part in a legislative session as Guthrie was Oklahoma's 1st Capitol. Seating was quick and the table and surrounding diners weren't too close. You were able to hear those at your table talk. Hosts and Waitress was very friendly and genuinely happy we were there. Service was great. Didn't take very long for 8 people to get drinks, appetizers and our meal served. Here's where we went wrong. I won't blame Gages on our food choices. We knew we were at a steak house so why did we order Italian and Seafood? IDK. Everyone at our table who ordered steak had no complaints other than their side veggies were cold. Those who ordered chicken fried items also were happy with their choices, but the side veggies were cold. Should I come back I'll stick with ordering steak and not branch out into seafood or Italian. Our waitress listened to our complaints and made a sincere apology and said she'd let the staff and kitchen know. I'm pretty sure she will as she told us she was married to the chef. It's a destination place for sure just to see the decor and the service. I wish I had gone steak. And to top it off a train came down the tracks as we were leaving. We had dinner last night at Gage's Steak House, and truly enjoyed our meal. The blackened ribeye was wonderful, as was the stuffed snapper. The ambiance was very cool - the restaurant is in an old building and the train outside just added to the evening. Our server, Olivia, was wonderful. Attentive, cheerful, and checking up at the perfect times. All in all, a wonderful experience we will look to repeat in the near future. read more

Service was slow and overworked. Took over an hour to get food after ordering, and when it came out the blackened ribeye was burned and was past well done when it was ordered medium. Portions were small and the deserts are all frozen. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were courteous but overwhelmed. read more

Oh man, I so badly wanted this place to be our new high class place... and it's so so close, could be with just a little tweeking. First of all, the meal was great. Food was totally solid. Hubs got the filet, I got the signature ribeye and daughter got the rack of pork. Filet was tender, cooked perfectly and quite flavorful, the Ribeye was spot on and delicious, though I did regret the Tobacco Onions on top, not because they weren't delicious but because anything onion ring like fills me fast LOL They were good. My daughter thought her pork was super delicious and it was cooked so nicely at the restaurant's recommendation. The asparagus and carrots and veggie medly were great. The twice baked potatoes were a split reaction, I found them dry and just meh, but the others liked them a lot. Our Boursin cheese artichoke dip appetizer was very tasty, though super thick so the chips kept breaking, but still, really good to kick off the meal. The star of the pre-diner... the dinner rolls!! Delicious old fashioned yeast rolls!! They had reugular butter and I think a red pepper butter (umm... I tucked that in with my leftovers to bring home! that's how good it was!) and so worth every bite!!! My daughter also thought that her strawberry lemonade was the best she has ever had, so there's that! (she gets it EVERYWHERE!) Our server was sweet and very nice, casual not formal and was helpful with all the questions. I can't believe I forgot her name. She kept our water filled and checked in the perfect amount (not overly bearing, but enough we could get things we needed timely if we needed them). It wasn't very busy when we were there (mid week two days after Christmas) and we were there for a family celebration for my daughter. Upon seeing the gift our server made sure to ask if was her birthday so she could get us a complimentary birthday dessert if it was. Another server from a neighboring table also seeing the gift wished our daughter a happy birthday (I thought that was thoughtful and sweet). The four star vs five star for me comes down to atmosphere. At the risk of sounding snooty let me explain... When I'm going to a meal where its gonna run $40+ a person I'm looking for a different atmosphere and this is where it let me down. Paint on the walls needed touch up (or a chair rail/wainscoting.. along the wall where the seating was ran a length of chipped paint from the furniture. The lighting was standard and not romantic and there is very little decor on the walls. It just felt strange. It's so close to being lovely. Even my minimalist husband (who is very style oriented) agreed. With a little more pizzazz this place could be sooo incredibly charming and feel super special. I love that it's in the old train station, keep that in mind when looking for the front door... you'll need to walk along the track side of the building towards the far end to get to the lobby. One thing for vestibularly challenged individuals, the brick walk way is a touch uneven at spots, so watch your VC folks. While you are having dinner you'll hopefully be treated to a passing train as we were, which was nice. They had quite a large bar area with several guests in there while we were having dinner, and they had plenty of staff to serve. Over all, because the food is so good we will probably be back, but I would LOVE to see the ambience become a little more warm and inviting and polished. read more

This place has NO right being SO GOOD!!! That makes me so jealous that the people of Guthrie get this gem and I have to drive from Moore to get it!! I grew up in Cajun country, so I was surprised to see so many Cajun items on the menu. So, I was a little hesitant to try them because I just knew they were not going to be as good. Boy, was I wrong! The crab cake appetizer was so tasty. Very moist and loaded with real crab meat. I could even smell that it was good crab and not imitation. Those rolls and the red pepper butter were addicting. I would order that butter by the pound to eat at home. Our server was very happy to explain the differences in the butter and so friendly. He suggested the crab cakes and we were very happy with them. I ordered the lobster Mac as my entree, while my husband ordered the salmon. My Mac was very good; the noodles and cheese were great, but the lobster was not my favorite. My husband loved his salmon and ate all of it quickly. We also got turtle cheesecake for dessert and it was dreamy. The candied nuts and caramel on top were so good that I'm salivating. The whip cream tasted fresh as if it the cow was out back! My favorite part was the stuffed potato, or as they called it 'twice baked'. I have had many stuffed potatoes at my favorite restaurants in south la and this has made my top 3! That is a huge deal. If only chives and bacon were added to the potato, it would become my all-time favorite. We will be back for sure as soon as we can make it back to Guthrie! read more

This place is over priced with mediocre service and food I'd say is just okay. The building is very old and the floors bounce when waiters rush by the table. The hostess was awkward, they had two hostess and seemed annoyed we didn't have a reservation even though we were able to be seated immediately. Once seated the hostess stared me down until she could awkwardly hand me the menu, it was a very odd exchange. Our waiter started off strong, but once our food was brought to the table we were forgotten. My husband's water glass sat empty, I was never offered another beer, we never saw our waiter until the very end. The salads that we added to our meals were not worth $3. It was cheap iceberg lettuce, dried out stale celery stick and carrot stick, shredded cheese, and some cherry tomatoes and the world's saltiest croutons. It was tiny and disappointing although the ranch was quite good. They brought four dinner rolls to the table, no more bread was offered once those were gone. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was very good, it came with asparagus and carrots which were sliced super thick for some reason, and a baked potato, and he asked for an extra side of quinoa. SIX DOLLARS for a bowl of quinoa. I ordered the twin filets. They had so much pepper on them I could barely eat it. I ended up giving one of the filets to my husband and he gave me part of his ribeye because he likes spice. My mashed potatoes were good but barely warm and my julienne vegetables had one flavor-butter. My daughter got Mac and cheese, it was okay but honestly very bland, but the French fries were overly salty. My son enjoyed his chicken tenders and they honestly gave a lot of them for a kids meal. The kids meals come with dessert which was nice, we ordered the crème brûlée to share. The sugar tasted overly burnt and the crème was a bit runny. The sliced strawberry on top was very sour. The bill was $114 and change. I wasn't impressed with the food at those prices, and the service really dropped off once the food came, and seeing mouse traps on the floor as I walk back to the bathroom is very unappealing so overall a very disappointing experience. read more

I'm sure it's because it is a busy time of year but our service was horrible. If they don't have enough help, they shouldn't seat that many people. It took forever to order. We got our salads before the appetizer. The appetizer was cold. When our entrees arrived they were cold. We wanted dessert but we're afraid it would take another hour. We got one tea refill the whole two hour experience. Our waitress said she'd get us refills "when she got to it" We may try again but not on a Saturday night close to Christmas. read more

The absolute worse experience ever. We have gone in their a few times prior. Food and service was great. Tonight only two of us went in. Got seated right away and sat for at least twenty minutes. The bus boy brought us bread. Servers and other staff just walked right past us numerous times and said nothing to us. Then a family of 4 walks in and out comes a server before they even sat down with water and bread. We got the servers attention and he was irritated that we got his attention and it wasn't his fault that they sat him twice at the same time and told us hold on he was coming. We explained to him that we had been there a good 30 minutes at this point and his response while he was holding a pitcher of water was he would be back. Still no water. We promptly got up and left and he told us to have a good one as we left. I asked for the manager and he came out and we explained the situation. He apologized and it obviously wasn't directly his fault but he is the manager. We told him we loved this place but it sucked and we probably wouldn't be back read more

Husband and I decided on Steakhouse for my birthday dinner. It wasn't busy at all so we didn't have to make a reservation. The building this is located in was an old train station which we thought was pretty cool! We were told a train passes by once in a while and we were lucky enough to experience that. The food was okay, nothing exceptional. Better than an average steakhouse but not the best that we've had. For starters we had some complimentary bread. Bread was okay but the butters were so yummy! For our appetizer we ordered the onion strings. I don't think it was cooked all the way.. We checked in on yelp and were given a coupon for one free appetizer. No one knew what we were talking about but they applied the coupon anyway which was very much appreciated! For our entrees we both ordered our steaks medium rare, they nailed it. I opted for extra asparagus instead of carrots. I enjoyed the steak and asparagus but wasn't a fan of the baked potato or side Caesar salad. It was basically lettuce with some lemon juice and Parmesan. The lettuce was a bit wilted and the Caesar dressing was nowhere to be found. But we received a free dessert for my birthday. Had another great dinner here tonight. We travel from Austin to Omaha multiple times a year. We discovered Guthrie last year and it's a great historic town. We've been to Gages's twice now.
