I've been here once. Once. And that's enough to come back over and over again. The fabric selection is amazing, and it's the fabric store equivalent of Costumes, Etc. I love it! There's a huge variety of pretty much any kind of fabric imaginable, and if you can't find it doesn't mean it's not there. Lots of bridal and special occasion fabric. Cons I can think of are the hours (4pm on a weekday is pretty prohibitive for most people) and the price of fabric. I know I'm not going to get Joann-on-sale prices, but I would like to find something there that isn't $20/yd. read more

Oh Gail, how I miss you now I'm in Huntsville for the year. I never thought of reviewing this place, but a friend recently did and I had to put in my 2 pennies! I have shopped here for years and the fabrics are phenomenal in price, quality, and abundance. The button collection is what Gail prides herself on and once I saw a button salesman (I know, right?!) in the store peddling their buttons and she was having nothing but the rarest, highest quality buttons in her store! For my wedding, I turned down the expensive custom-made veil at the bridal store and shopped here for the lace that would best match my gown. I left with about $40 worth of the perfect lace that I made into my veil and about $300 worth of white fabric I draped around the reception site the day before the wedding. I think that probably sums up how I feel about Gail's fabric store....a MUST try. Mind the small parking lot and the traffic on Cheshire though when exiting - was almost hit here a couple of times. read more

I could spend days in here. With the exception of Minky Dot fabric (used frequently in baby blankets), they have every fabric you can imagine here. Need something for your wedding? They will have the perfect match. How about that Bollywood extravaganza? Yep, that too. The button wall alone will have you ohhhhing and ahhhhing. Let me first say this place has not so great hours and super crappy parking. With that said, I was impressed with the rest of it for the most part. As a person just getting into sewing, it was really overwhelming in there, but in a good way. Soooo many fabrics to choose from. They only carry fabrics for clothing so if you're looking to make some curtains or something you're not going to find it here. They have lots of buttons and thread and things as well. What I loved most was their scrap bin. It was the best I've seen so far. Tons of cheap pieces, and they were fairly large pieces which is what I was looking for and are so hard to find. My only complaint was when I asked someone for help, she wasn't too friendly. But she was the only one; everyone else was ready to help. Except it was hard for me to tell who exactly was working there. I wasn't sure if the guy kind of hovering around the cutting table worked there, so when I wanted to get my fabric cut I had to ask him. read more

I have came here about 3-5 different times only because it was the closest fabric store to me but I am sooo not feeling this place. The customer service definitely needs some (more like alot) improvement. I was asking some questions and it was obvious that I didn't know to much about fabric but, the help was just not there. they have a pretty large selection though. I'd go back maybe after I know what I'm doing. it won't be because of the service though, it would only be just to see if they have a fabric I want. They need to do better. read more

It seems that most fabric stores today only stock quilting fabric, home dec fabric and polar fleece (even in the middle of HOTLANTA summers!). What a wonderful resource Gail K Fabrics store is for people who desire to make apparel. They are a treasure trove of wonderful, unique fabrics that one can find nowhere else south of NYC. I could....and have, spent many hours browsing and being inspired by the fabulous selection. I went to Gail K Fabrics after failing to find the material I was looking for for my client at Fine Fabrics of Norcross and I instantly FELL IN LOVE. The lady that helped me was not only friendly, she was knowledgeable. I showed her a video of the type of material I was looking for and she knew right away where to take me. On top of that, they have QUALITY fabrics which is right in line with my business. So yes, you will pay more but there is NO substitute for quality. They have a loyal customer in me. I also checked around online and at other fabric stores just to see if what they were charging would be the best deal for what I wanted and hands down, they were the one. I went back the next day to get everything I needed and I felt good about spending my money with them! Can't say enough how much I love this store! read more

Those 10lbs I said I was going to lose to fit into that bridesmaid's dress? It didn't happen. So, I've been on a search through Atlanta to find fabric that matches the unique purpley-plum-eggplant-wine-marroon shade of this chiffon frock so it can be let out that darned last half inch. Gail K had what I was looking for, but admittedly, I did not catch them on their best hour (15 minutes before closing). Though the fabric is organized by type, the organization by color is a total mess. Be prepared to wear comfortable clothes, because you will be on your own shifting heavy bolts and rolls, kneeling on the ground, and rummaging through boxes to find the right match. The only clerk that I could find to ask for help didn't speak English, and the others were all at the cutting table trying to get through the long line that had built up as they were closing. Additionally, while I was impressed by the variety of the fabric they had, their thread selection was abysmal. Though the price I paid was downright cheap, they have fabrics that run in the hundreds of dollars a yard. Which is good to know, because prices were missing from the ends of some of the bolts, and you could end up with an unpleasant surprise at the register. In summary, if you are looking for inspiration for your next project, give yourself an hour to browse the beautiful and unique array of fabrics, buttons, and trims. If you're looking for something specific, also budget plenty of time to sort through the overwhelming selection. It's in there, you just have to hunt. read more

I have been shopping here for 17 years. Never been disappointed in the quality of the fabrics nor the great service. Beautiful laces, gorgeous silks, exquisite suitings, luxurious knits, superior linens, and just everything for a fabric snob like me. Having shopped for fabrics all over the country I consider the prices very reasonable. The other thing is that I always find what I am looking for. Love this place. read more

Great fabric store! I had a sequin tanktop that I wanted to lengthen, and the ladies there helped me find the perfect fabric and gave me good advise on how to lengthen my top. Only drawback is that this place appears a bit unorganized, there are fabrics all over the place, and it can be overwhelming. But like I said, they are extremely helpful so they will help you navigate thru the store. read more

Darn it! All those years, I was slighted with how limited lycra fabrics were in Atlanta, especially at Hancock's and Joann's. It was not until one day I drove by and... I am in Lycra Heaven. Lord almighty save me! I found GOOD ol plenty of lycra designs I needed to make modest swimwear and coverups. They ain't el-cheapo, but lordy GOOD! read more

Located on Cheshire Bridge Road, the shop has bolts of fabric piled on top of bolts of fabric, some of which are on shelves higher than your head. There is spandex for bathing suits, printed rayon for skirts, and shiny silks for summery tank tops. read more

They do have a lot of apparel fabric. However, you will pay for $32.00 for $10.00 silk taffeta. Most print fabrics are at least 10 years old but if you're looking for solids, you're in luck. They have a large variety of fabrics. So make sure you bring lots of cash if you intend on buying your supplies from here. read more

If I want to sew something seriously good quality, I go to Gail K Fabrics. They have a really wonderful selection of high quality fashion fabrics including silks, linens, woolens and a variety of blends. Good selection of buttons, excellent selection of trims. Other notions are hit or miss. Prices seem right to me for the quality. Without a doubt, THE place in Atlanta to find fashion fabric. You can't be afraid to ask for assistance because the signage is weak and the organization belies explication. Be prepared to do some hunting through piles and stacks. read more

I went into this store in hopes of finding a replacement zipper pull for my buddies leather jacket. Not only did they have a set of pulls for $5, but a gentelman who worked there offered to install the zipper for me. I was impressed! read more

For Atlanta, this is a great fabric store. I'm a designer recently from NY and this is the only fabric store I've found so far that offers quality fabric, high-end trim and a fairly extensive selection. I'm confused why Joann's and Hancocks -fabric specialty chains- only offer fabric that is cheap/polyester and often of the 'grandma' variety as far as prints and textures (no offense intended to all the stylish grandmothers out there...) and nothing that is trendy and stylish. The only other stores we've come across in our Atlanta fabric store hunt are stores that are more for interior design and home goods (which I have adapted for some of my dresses). My only qualm is that since I recently came from NY I know that many of the fabrics offered at Gail K are quite over priced, I found exact laces that I bought in NY, there for 2 and 3 times the price that I paid ($30-$35 for the lace in NY and more than $90 a yard for the exact same lace at Gail K --I thought things were suppose to be cheaper down south?!). Considering that they are the only game in town so far (which they proudly boasted), I understand it, but it sucks for the consumer, and then those expenses are passed on to anyone who purchases a designed garment because it makes the end price really unnecessarily higher. It's too bad there aren't at least a few more high-end fabric stores in the area to give them a little competition, but after searching high and low for something of it's kind, I'm grateful that Gail K is at least an option. In their defense, they were nice, helpful and the lady at the cash register gave me a %10 discount without me even asking for it I think because of the amount of money I spent (around $100). I will definitely go there again. Maybe sometimes just for inspiration, sometimes to hunt for deals (I know you're in there somewhere!!) or when I need things that I don't have time to have shipped from NY. read more

Resigning myself to the fact that I can no longer buy off the rack prom/pageant gowns for my 6"4" 15 year old I went on a search for a fabric store with suitable fabrics. Gail K is the answer - from silks to lace to embellishments do not by-pass this store if you are in that market. The staff on my two visits were less than helpful -with my last vist resulting in basically being yelled at for not putting the trims up properly- After dropping $300 on my last visit I can tell you it was not appreciated. But I will return based solely on the fact that there is no other place like it. Maybe it was too close to closing time Go prepared with a picture you'd like to replicate, yardage requirements and trims planned ahead and you won't be sorry. read more

i want to give 5 start but , one thing bcz of that i did not shop at the Gail K is Prices. fabric prices per yard is too high . there are too much selection of different type of fabrics. and lowest fabric i have seen there is $9 per yard that was for cheapest quality fabric. and the average fabric prices is like $17-$25 per yard . and one net Fabric was $90 per yard. can you believe THAT. ??? read more

I decided to visit Gail K fabrics this weekend and was very disappointed as to how I was treated as a BLACK WOMAN. I was being helped by a Asian gentleman who ask me to step away from his service to get a cheaper fabric and I did so and when I returned for him to complete my order a white gentleman was waiting there behind me. I was told by the Asian gentleman who worked for Gail K to wait while he cowardly started shuffling like" Stepping fetch it" and told me I had to wait until he served the white gentleman first.. The white gentleman politely said no finish working with her. I would want to close by saying people who are not up to date on how our culture works in to days society need to know that we have left that type of disrespect in the past and we are trying to get to a point where we treat everyone with respect. read more
