I understand milk is a main ingredient in ice creams, but all of the ice creams we tried had a very noticeable milk flavor to them. My husband and I visited Gail's for the first time last Friday night for our date night. The shop is so cute and family friendly. It immediately smells like warm sugar waffle cones when you walk in. The servers were friendly and let us sample a few ice creams. The cookies and creqm was sold out, which lets me know that it's good. So, we'll have to try it out next time. The first thing that hits you is the intoxicating cinnamon sort of graham cracker smell of the waffle cones. I had to have my ice cream on a waffle cone. I ordered a single scoop of the very fresh strawberry and it was amazing. This is not your average Bryer's, Dryer's, Thrifty's, Ben & Jerry's, Häagen-Dazs or Godiva's Type of strawberry ice cream. This is definitely a fresh homemade strawberry. It was absolutely delicious. It was the right amount of creamy and the right amount of sweet. I am so glad that I got it. For a family of three, our order was about $16. It was absolutely worth it. My little one had the milk and cookies. She really enjoyed it. It was not overly sweet in any sort of way. My other half, he had the brown butter pecan. He said that was actually a bit too sweet for him. There were lots of nuts in his. My mother had a flavor that I cannot recall the name of. But it basically is a coffee based ice cream with a heath bar mix it. She said that was very good too. These aren't anorexic scoops. IMO, these are pretty good sized. As a frequenter of the Overpass Merchant, we used to enjoy some ice cream treats that would appear as a special every now and then. Gail's Fine Ice Cream spawned from there to its own stand alone location just a stones throw away (and a location in New Orleans). Recently, I popped in after a hot run, and first of all, the smell of the cones being freshly made was very warm and inviting. They have a menu up, but they don't always have those particular selections available. However, There were still about 8 flavors to choose from. I got a cup of the milk and cookies, and the flavors were so rich and delightful. There was plenty of cookie dough in the scoop, and the flavor was just perfect. It was the perfect size scoop and hit the spot on a hot day. The ladies behind the counter were very helpful and assisted another customer with finding something to delightfully hit her pallet too. Finally made it over to Gail's. While there I had the infamous lemon blueberry. It was for me delicious though unexpected. I expected that it was going to be light and bright, and there were hints of that, but the overwhelming taste profile was sweet and creamy. I also tried the cortado crunch which was also great, but again, the profile is mostly sweet and creamy. Other flavors available at the time were berry, chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, birthday cake, cookie monster, a couple others and one sorbet. The sugar cone didn't unwrap well. Glue and a bit of paper stuck on the cone. But it was otherwise tasty and sturdy Overall, this is a great post heavy workout treat on a spring or warm fall day. I'm excited to try the affogato. Because of how heavy and creamy the ice cream is, Gail's is not going to be my go to for a cool down treat. I also appreciated some of the ways they are trying to be a more sustainable operation (reusable tasting spoons). read more
