I wanted some Thai food and with Galanga being the local spot, I was curious to try them again since I haven't in a little bit. So of course for starters I had the Tom Yum soup, it's a little fishy, salty, sweet, and sour. This is one of my favorite soups of all time. However, this one in particular lacked a lot of what makes a good Tom Yum. The flavors just weren't as bold/pungent as others and the broth itself was pretty watery. For mains I had their Pad Kee Mao and it was everything I wanted. Saucy, full of umami, plentiful and oh so chewy. As for the Pad Thai... same problem as the soup. While the flavor is there it's definitely not the best Pad Thai I've had or close to it, still serviceable though. It feels like the same story when I visit Galanga. While the food is pretty good, they just haven't hit that next level to make them my go-to Thai spot. read more

We ordered take out to be delivered to the physical rehab center we were recovering at First issue the delivery. Driver was supposed to call me when he left so I could meet him in lobby. Never called luckily I decided to go to lobby. Next the food. The coconut noodle dish was good, everything else was mediocre. Except the deep fried sea bass dish. It was awful Not a fish but chunks of fish(?) heavily breaded dried out and tasteless. I thought they sent me chicken bits by mistake. I threw the whole thing out. Next day after I found the receipt I called to get reimbursed for the "sea bass" meal. After 15 minutes of arguing with a worker, boss would not talk to me, I was literally told in a very obnoxious way that I got sea bass not chicken and i should have called and returned it right away! Galanga Thai has been around for many year but I've just discovered them less than a month ago. Safe to say, I've been missing out! My experience was so great that I went back two days later for another dinner with friends. Here's what I tasted both times. Visit Number 1: * Chicken Satay - absolutely juicy and flavorful chicken with a peanut dipping sauce, normally I'm not big on peanut flavor but this was good! * Duck pancake - THIS stole my heart and has yet to give it back. I could eat a tray of these all day, every day, for the rest of my days. * Samosa - I love a good samosa, but a great one is hard to come by. These samosas were PERFECT. Also, they come out piping hot so be mindful when your greedy behind goes in for a bite. * Spicy Basil Chicken - this entree will be in my rotation when visiting Galanga Thai. The flavors and spice were more than nice. It's accompanied by many fresh vegetables that manage to keep their crunch although cooked which I appreciate. Paired with white rice to enhance the flavors, you can't go wrong with this as your main squeeze. Visit Number 2: * Duck Pancake - DUH! * Samosa - DUH, again! * Shao Mai Dumplings - tiny, yummy, juicy, memorable; get them! * Mee Ga-Thi - these noodles were thick and fully absorbed the flavors described on the menu. The combination of chicken and baby shrimp also help make this meal one of my faves! * Basil Duck - listennnnn, this meal is so good you'll be quacking the whole way home. Tender, delicious, and fulfilling the whole way through. Also paired with white rice! * Volcano Beef AND Chicken - we decided to get both beef and chicken for this one and we were not disappointed. The meal lives up to its name in that it has some spice to it, but it's not overbearing and allows the other spices and flavors to have equal shine. To sum it all up, Galanga Thai is now one of my favorite restaurants and Andy, our server, is the absolute best. I'll be back very soon! hai food is one of my absolute favorites, and Galanga Thai truly exceeded my expectations! The quality and flavor of the dishes were outstanding. While we enjoyed classics like Pad Thai but we also tried some less common dishes, including Duck Pancakes, Pineapple Coconut Fried Rice, and Panang Curry. Is this the best Pad thai I've ever had? Nope, but damn if it isn't a close second. Crazy big portions, flavorful noodles, and my personal favorite a little bit of spice! If you're not looking for a spicy pad Thai then I wouldn't recommend this dish. I usually grab Galanga when I'm working a long Saturday shift at my job. It gets me out of the office and allows me to visit the cute inside. Also there's always leftovers for dinner or the next day for lunch. It's a really great lunch spot on Main Street in Bay Shore. You should absolutely try Galanga. First off the people are so warm and friendly and always make you feel right at home. They have amazing Thai dishes with the most delicious and different flavors. Does not leave you with that grossly full greasy feeling. Totally my go to Thai spot in the local south shore area. No photos to offer right now, but I get take out from there multiple times a year. Inside is humble and quaint, and the staff if very pleasant. Here's my go to order: I forget which of the two soups it is, but one is so spicy it's insane, and yet it's so tasty, you literally can't help but take another sip... and another. I think Tim Kha Gai, but could be wrong. Love their Samosas as an app - real crowd pleaser. Pineapple coconut fried rice should be a given. You can't go wrong with shrimp pad Thai, and their rendition of it is top notch. But my sleeper noodle dish here is the beef pad see yu. Wide noodles, brown gravy, deliciousness. Reminds me of chow fun. For my curry option, I always go chicken panang. Nice kick but manageable for those with more sensitive palettes. That set up usually covers 4-6 adults plus some leftovers. read more

Upon arrival the outside is misleading for how cute it is inside. The lights are dim, the jazz music is low but loud enough to enjoy, and the decor is cute. The food is just as good as the atmosphere. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with chicken and shrimp, at a mild spice, which is my go to for Thai food and it was amazing! I asked for additional chili paste on the side to control the heat and ended up adding a little more. The noodles were cooked perfectly, at other places they can sometimes be too thick/doughy but that was not the case. The chicken and shrimp were at a good ratio to noodle and cooked very well also. I tried my boyfriends Spicy Basil Duck and it was also really delicious. The duck was very tender, juicy and flavorful. Our waiter was very nice and attentive which is always a plus. The food was also decently priced. I will 100% be back to enjoy more of this great food and great ambiance. read more

I found this thai restaurant by accident. It's in a little spot on main street kind of hidden but it's a jewel. I have been there with family and friends over 7 times already. You walk in to a pleasant atmosphere. The waiters are so nice they great you with a smile that gives you the assurance you will love their food. So as always we get our favorite table and we start with the egg rolls dipped in the red sauce. Simply delicious. We have ordered many dishes from the coconut noodle to the beef dishes. Which was excellent. Overall service is fantastic. The food is awesome here as well. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Bayshore on Main Street. read more

Galanga Thai is a sparkling gem tucked deep into the middle of Bay Shore. We were heading to a very special Japanese restaurant that, unbeknownst to us, had closed. If I had sneezed, we would have missed it. The food is spot on. The ingredients are super fresh and each dish is authentic. The flavors are amazing as they should be in a Thai dish. The service is lovingly provided by Andrew, an extremely knowledgeable waiter who is a perfect complement to the great food. The price point is even something special to mention. As a lover of Thai food, this establishment never fails. I have not been to this place once and have been dissatisfied or disappointed. When dining in, the staff is incredibly polite and accommodating. The menu is extensive and mouth watering... you'll want to try everything. One of my favorite local Thai spots in Suffolk county. They now are all boarded up with plastic window and basically a baby monitor to speak. That's how we let them know we are there and take care of payment etc. No eating inside for soooooo many places! Times oh these times... at least we have good food still! I've only been to Galanga a total of 3 times. Once in high school, another time for a To-Go order and most recently I had a lovely night dining in with two of my girl friends. The broth was thin but still flavorful. Keeping on with that same thin profile was our other curry dish ordered, the Gaeng Panang; this dish is described in the menu as a thick Panang curry... Today through grubhub I ordered the pahd ruom lunch which is supposed to be spicy tofu with vegetables and rice. There is no tofu in my dish, and it isn't spicy. Vegetables and rice for $10. Had just gone to the doctor and had a taste for Thai food. Found this place which can be easily missed on Main Street since it's so small. Once entering I immediately could go no further. They don't have indoor or outdoor dining. They have a monitor set up for you to speak to the waiter. Once my food was ready, the waiter opened the door and I gave him my card. I could see him clearly and he did not go far with my card. It took about 10 minutes for my Chicken Pad Thai to finish and it was worth the wait. The portion was on the smaller side than I'm used to getting compared with Lemon Leaf down in Mineola for a similar price. However, Galanga's taste was much better by far. Do yourself a favor and try this spot, you won't be disappointed. read more

I'm so depressed. I had two go-to Thai restaurants in town. One closed and the other, Galanga, has lost its mojo. Today, my Pad Thai was over cooked and had three measly little shriveled up shrimp. The Mango Chick (2.00 extra chicken) lacked the extra chicken and had Mango that wasn't ripe. You may say, hey every place can have a bad day; however this is the 2nd time I'm having a bad experience. Fool me once.... you know the rest!
