Wow! What a neighborhood gem! We were looking for a place to have lunch so I checked Yelp for a recommendation and found some great reviews about Tonnam Thai in Bohemia. Quite honestly it's a small restaurant in a strip mall that I would compare to a takeout Chinese restaurant, however they have about six tables and a wonderful waitress named Masi who provided great service with a smile. We ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles with Shrimp and both dishes were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I typically don't eat spicy food so I asked for mild seasoning on drunken noodles and they were a bit spicy for me but absolutely delicious. I tasted my sister's pad thai and could not believe how good it was. The next time we go, I will definitely be ordering that pad thai. If you're thinking about going out for Thai food and you're in the area, definitely give this place a try. You can tell by the reviews that they have great food; the prices are super affordable and they even offer a great weekday lunch special for $13-$16 for a variety of dishes, a spring roll and a soda. I initially was going to give this place five stars so that's how good the food is. My only reluctance to do so is twofold. Firstly I never like to give five stars based only one experience, as excellent as that was. Secondly it's too bad this place is not more of a full-service restaurant with more seating. It's quite tight: On a cold winter day I can imagine being very uncomfortable when the door opens and closes. From my one visit I can tell you that that door is open and closing all the time! This aside I ordered the duck special which might be one of the greatest dishes I've ever ordered anywhere much less in a Thai restaurant. It was time for Friday night dinner. Didn't want the usual and wanted something we haven't had in a while. My boyfriend and I decided on Thai! We are very happy with our decision! We ordered off UberEats, so I cannot comment on the service. For an appetizer we went with steamed chicken and shrimp dumplings. They had a delicious flavor and the dipping sauce complemented them well. Our only complaint on this was that there were 5 dumplings and not 6. But we still shared evenly, haha! For my entree I had chicken pad Thai medium spice. It was delicious. Let it be known that the "medium" here is much hotter than a "medium" elsewhere. It wasn't unbearable, but just beware if you can't handle spicy/spice that well. I throughly enjoyed it. Generous portion also. My boyfriend had drunken noodles with beef mildly spicy. Awesome take out this past Saturday. Easy online ordering and everything was ready to go upon arrival. Super sweet woman taking care of the dining guests greeted me and had me out the door super quick. Very appreciative of my business. We had two apps (Crab Wonton/Rangoon and Spring Rolls). Both very good. For entrees we had a Pad Thai, Panang Curry and Kua Gai. We all enjoyed the different dishes and had some leftovers for my Mom to enjoy after we departed. $83 and change with tip. I always look forward to Tonnam Thai. Chef V has a great hand! If you want to have delicious thai foods, this is the place to come. Traditional recipes are not easy to find. This is a small restaurant with only 6 tables, concentrates more on delicious to go orders. The Chinese broccoli tasted burnt but the noodles and chicken was way too salty. The chive cakes were way too oily. I have definitely had better. The curry puff and taro puff was good. Saw this place written up in Newsday and it did not disappoint. Inside is super small if you want to dine in but we were ok with it. I got taro bubble tea, drunken noodles and the bread pudding for dessert. Husband got basil fried rice. We shared curry puffs (the dough is amazing) and a side of roti (buttery and delicious ). It gave a charred taste to the food, so I avoided eating that part. Hardly any scallions. The taste otherwise was fine and the shrimp large. We were visiting NY from out of state and flying out from the long island airport. After having extremely average Chinese and Malaysian food in Manhattan I was skeptical when my husband wanted to order from this restaurant. Omg was i surprised. Although I've never been to Thailand I've eaten lots of thai food and I know what great Thai food tastes like. The Green Curry & Basil Lovers are excellent. Tried a bunch of stuff and it's all be great. It's has some seating but the layout is similar to Chinese food to-go restaurant. The owners are the servers and they're fast and efficient, but the place gets super busy for lunch and dinner so expect a wait during prime times. read more
