Heard about this place and decided to try it on a whim . Finding a restaurant in New Brunswick area…read morewith parking is a big deal. But what's beyond that is the core of the visit . Walked in to a nice coffe bar area which did not seem functional .it well decorated with some antique accents keys if different shapes n sizes We were seated and a waiter took our order immediately. The place was a bit busy for a weekday. Complementary wam pita bread n ezme , sun dried tomatoes n spicy jalapeños were not bad . A paper form being warm there was nothing more to it. Got the mixed grill for two which was served with a side of soup and salad . Both sides were delicious. The grilled chicken kebabs and chops were passable though not juicy . All Lamb kebab choices were tough and chewy . This is a mediocre spot as I age v had better Kebabs in the same area . Not my kind of food.

Here I am... 12 years later to update my review!…read more My sister picked Sahara for my birthday dinner because she knows that I love Mediterranean (big change since my last review--a lot has happened in over a decade lol) There is a parking lot, but it is really small and was filled when we visited. On the street parking shouldn't really be an issue in the area. We found with no issue on a Tuesday evening. Inside is cozy.. could be a little warmer, but I'll give that it was an exceptionally cold December evening. The atmosphere gives cozy vibes though, which I appreciate. We were immediately seated upstairs, where they have plenty of large group seating options. Service was attentive and fast. We ordered a round of delicious appetizers.. hummus, saksuka, cheese rolls.. all of it was delicious. I especially loved the octopus app special.. magnificent! Entrees were especially of large portion, which was greatly appreciated. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully presented. I ordered the Pyramid chicken which was delicious. Their chicken is flavorful and juicy. For dessert, my keskul was amazing! Plenty of pistachio on top with a delicate and very well balanced vanilla custard. I could eat that daily. I definitely plan on returning!!

The employee was incredibly helpful when it came to deciding what to order. For appetizers, we got the hummus, tzatziki, and falafel--everything was delicious. They also give you a side of "mommy's sauce," and omg... it was soooo good mixed with the hummus. It's a secret family recipe made by the owner herself, which makes it even better! For the entrée, we ordered the mixed grill platter. My favorite meats were the gyro slices and the beef cubes. The beef cubes were perfectly seasoned--seriously next level. The rice underneath all the meat was also excellent and packed with flavor. Will definitely be back!!

The Turkish Mediterranean cuisine lived up to the hype. I ordered the lebni, chicken and lamb shish kebab with rice and salad, and tried the red sauce with bread, all of which were outstanding. The dishes struck the perfect balance: satisfying and filling without being heavy or leaving you uncomfortably full. The service matched the quality of the food. The staff was attentive and friendly, and our meals arrived promptly and beautifully presented. Whether you're dining solo, on a date, or with friends, I'd highly recommend this spot. The food is consistently excellent, and the overall experience is top-notch.

Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. I know things changed since the previous owner (older Greek man) no longer owned it. He used to stop by the tables and chat with customers and we noticed that the portions had become smaller. This time we came for lunch on a Sunday. Place was kind of empty, with the exception of 2 large tables. We ordered Saganaki and were informed by waitress that they no longer flambéd it table side. We still ordered and it was good although not melted like we remembered. Husband only ordered the lemon soup, which he said was good. My daughter and I both ordered beef and lamb gyros, I ordered it with Greek fries (with the Greek cheese over them) and my daughter ordered hers with lemon potatoes. Both gyros came dry, in hard shaved pieces and I barely ate my fries as they were worse than fast food fries and not the traditional Greek cheese over them. The tzatziki was good, however, my daughter's had a hair in it. The worse part was that when we brought it to the waitresses attention, she was not apologetic or surprised. She just said she would bring a new one. This was unacceptable. To make matters worse, I went to their store next door to get the cheese I could fry at home and their custard dessert; they had neither. What a disappointment to the entire experience. Won't be returning if ever in the area.
