This AMC is relatively easy to get to and there are a number of good food places nearby if you want "dinner and a show." Parking in the very large lot is easy since attendance is low. We have seen a number is shows where the theatre was nearly empty (saw one that was a "private screening"). One complaint: the parking lot needs a serious resurfacing; beware the pot holes and low spots. Service is fine. Limited staff like everywhere, but the job gets done. I can see why some might pass on applying. Here's a story from 2 nights ago. I witnessed an angry customer show why customer service is a deterrent to young, new hires. An old guy gave a young new employee $X.05 to pay for tickets costing $Y.02. Change was to be $Z.03. Totally confused the kid. Why? No one knows how to make change any more because the cash register does the computation. And somehow the cash register didn't tell the kid the change. The old guy went ballistic. Yelling at the kid. Making a scene. Absolutely NO need for that. An older employee at the adjacent register helping us apologized, but the old guy wouldn't hear it--he continued. The adult employee said something like, "It doesn't help the kid by yelling at him." The old guy still went on and then even continued to grumble about it to his wife as we walked into the theater. What a crab (comment edited for publication ). Kudos to the adult employee for standing up for the kid! Concessions are as one would expect. Restrooms could be cleaned more often. Not horrible, but floors get a bit slick with moisture in the men's room. Theaters are nice. The chairs will rock, though this location is not equipped like the newer ones with recliners and with food service. Multiple screens make it easy to find a movie to enjoy. We will go back. Rating:

Theater was hot and the air conditioning was not on in that theater. Everyone that walked into the theater said it was hot. Spoke with the "manager" twice about it, before the movie started and was told he was working on resolving it. Spoke with the same "manager" after the movie and he downplayed the whole thing. Don"t plan to go back-last resort only.

Pieces offered were functional, decorative, or both; I ended up purchasing a striking vase from a local artist (Pine Hollow Pottery). The owner (Joe Pinder) was available to tell us about the art, the gallery and upcoming shows and festivals. (His dog was also hanging out, and was very cute.) Pieces were surprisingly affordable (I'm used to the art shows in a different area, I guess, where products are more costly). Overall, I would definitely keep this place in mind on a return visit to Galena for art with a personal touch and a local flavor.

Turned out it was a live museum! There are volunteers blacksmithing while telling the significant history of the shop and blacksmiths at Galena. On top of that, they are 100% supported by the admission fee ($5 per person), and proceeds from the gift shops (many are items forged by the volunteering blacksmiths). We enjoyed our visit, and learned an interesting piece of history!

I disagree with the other yelper that said they need updated signs and that it looked like a "crappy old shack". It is historical and looks like a crappy old shack because that's what it would've looked like. As for cleaning the place, why would you clean a place that uses coal to fuel the fires? Take your children here and show them how things were. Make a donation or buy an item that was made there to keep them open. They have bottle openers, hooks, pokers, decorative lamp pulls, and meat turners for grilling. I think it just depends on the day you are there what has been made.

She even threw the broken pieces into the garbage, not asking if I wanted to try salvaging the item. I was very surprised that the store did not accept the accident. It would be the same thing as someone spilling a drink in a restaurant or dropping their food. I could never imagine being given another and being charged for the accident. I did express my irritation with the owner's response to the accident. I guess I just have had too many good experiences with customer service that this came as a shock. The owner told me that I should not be frustrated with her, but with my son. He was the one who dropped it. She even mentioned talking to him about it. I suppose I paid for parenting advice.... Even though I was there during hours the store should have been open. I called the store described the purse and the vender Linda Davis agreed to ship it. I paid for the purse, my credit card was charged, only to receive a text stating shipping would be an additional $10. Although I was not happy my purse was being held hostage for an additional $10, I stated I would pay $8.50 which was the price of flat rate small box shipping. Linda said her $10 was firm. She stated she deserved to be compensated for placing my tiny purse in a box. Should I be compensated for gas for my 3 trips to the store? Crazy right? As a business owner I can not comprehend this poor business practice. I received a text from Linda stating she would refund my money since I would not pay her firm $10 shipping fee. I would pay the $8.50 the post office would charge, but she said NO! It was $10 or nothing. I have contacted the chamber hoping that Angie can help resolve this issue. So buyer beware of who you are making a purchase from.
