Made a last minute stop for a bite to eat after a different restaurant nearby was closed. We are really happy we ended up here! They have complimentary bread and salad for the table. The bread/"beer nuggets" were fresh and severed with a warm marinara. The salad was also large and had good dressing. We got the thin crust pizza which was hot, full of flavor and had a great wood fired crust. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Very much enjoyed our time. Accidentally stumbled into Gobbie's for a day trip in Galena. We just wanted something quick and affordable, and it was EXACTLY that and more! My boyfriend and I decided to just share a burger and fries since we weren't too hungry, and we were pleasantly surprised when a salad and beer nuggets were brought to us as well! I go to Gobbie's every time I visit Galena. The bartenders and wait staff have always been very nice and attentive. The ambience is sports like, casual but very nice. Their grilled chicken pita with feta cheese is always delicious and ample for two people! I recommend a side of ranch and not the Italian though. Gobbie's generously gives you beer nuggets and a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette with each entree order that is fantastic! While their drink prices have gone up a little bit, they are still more reasonable compared to other restaurants in the area. I always order the French martini which is fantastic and a must try! If you come over the weekend, make sure you get there a little early because they are always packed for a reason. I will definitely keep coming back every time I visit Galena (which is often)! read more

Stopped in here for lunch on a Friday. Immediately were seated and the service tended to us right away. The overall a great experience. It's certainly a niche food for Northern Illinois. They have them and they are fantastic. 2) Marinara sauce. One of the best I've ever had. 3) Burgers. Two of the party had burgers and really talked them up. Other items ordered were beef nachos , which is big enough for two or three people. Calzone. $20 is a bit much for what you get, but you do get more marinara, so it is worth it. All in all, a very nice place to hit while you are cruising around downtown. I recommend. Ok. Not great. Stopped in around 4 PM during the holiday week. We were seated right away and the place was quite crowded. Server was ok, efficient but not overly friendly. The pizza automatically comes with a family style salad (best part of the meal, IMO) and garlic bread nuggets (served barely warm and no real flavor though the marinara was excellent!). Pizza was ok - nothing special. Finally, what's the deal with packaged napkins/silverware along with paper plates. Is it too hard to use silverware and regular plates now? I wish I could say that we loved it here but truth is it was only average. read more

This is a great spot to visit in Galena for some bar food! Our large party of 8 stopped by on a Saturday around 5 and were seated immediately. Get here early if you don't want to wait awhile- it was already packed by 5! We started with some impressive-tasting dirty martinis. We love that the beer nuggets (essentially pieces of garlic bread) and house salad come with every meal! The portions are generous. I ordered the gyro platter with chili. Chili was seasoned well and the gyro was A-ok, nothing phenomenal. Husband ordered the mushroom Swiss burger with fries. Fries were soggy, but he enjoyed the burger. Can't tell you about the food My husband and I stopped to see if we could sit out side with our little dog. He is a service but because I didn't have my paperwork only a service tag on the dogs leash we were turned away. There was only 1 restaurant that allowed us in or out. I understand places not allowing dogs inside but when you have an outdoor seating why. I saw the sign stating NO DOGS ALLOWED except service dogs. Well you lost your chance. We picked Gobbie's because we were looking for a quick bite on our way out of Galena that had outdoor dining and burgers. The patio was really nice, with lots of shade, and the waitress was great although she seemed very rushed and busy. The nachos were very good, the burger was decent, and the fries were delicious. This place is pretty cool... we ordered the pizza, which was A-OK. I judge a pizza based on how good the leftovers were, and they weren't that great. I ordered the Robes Cajun Chicken sandwich which, according to our server, is the same as the other sandwiches they had to offer, just different spices. The chicken patty was somewhat thin, but it did span the entire bread, which I appreciated. No sense in a bite of nothing but bread. All entrees come with a giant salad with a raspberry vinaigrette and beer nuggets, which are fluffy bitesized bread sticks, which were great. Service was good, the ambiance fitted right for a sports bar vibe, and overall worth checking out. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located on the back of the bar, the bathrooms here were super-tiny. Gobbie's is a great place to eat outside and drink if you want to lose an afternoon in Galena. The outdoor patio is huge and much of it is covered. The Italian Beef is superb and stands up to anything you will find in Chicago. It is also huge. Entrees also come with a big bowl of salad and some kind of fried dough with marinara sauce. The salad is surprisingly good, as is the marinara. So keep that in mind before you order an appetizer. Its tons of food. They have an extensive array of rum concoctions which are in the $8 range, and come out in a pint glass. If you order an old fashioned, it too is oversized, and comes out in a massive rocks glass. Servers are very friendly and chill, you will not be rushed. Get your drink on and fill your belly for pennies on the dollar. read more

Gyro platter, watch out for bugs in your food!!! We ordered to go and found a surprise under the gyro meat. This bug blended into the pita so hoping none of us actually ate one since we ordered 3 of these. We've been long time visitors of Gobbies and normally gyros come with the meat piled high but this time we each got 5-6 pieces of meat, it was very skinny for a $14 gyro. Also the to go experience was not super pleasant. We had to wait at the bar like 5 inches from another customer who had no mask on because he was drinking his beer. Very disappointed Gobbies isn't being more careful with Covid and with the bug in the food, I probably won't be coming back here for a long while until hopefully they get their act together.
