Went in today at about 4:30 there were three patients that I could see, all doing their own work. I told them that I had a doctors appointment for today and because of the pain in my back and neck, he wanted me to have physical therapy. I told the person at the front desk that I was in pain and wanted the first available appointment. She told me that the first available appointment is July 23rd. A month from now. There is no way I can wait for a month. When I told her that a month is a long time away, she shrugged her shoulders. Can't believe that a physical therapy office is so booked up. Hire more people so that you can help patients in a reasonable time. read more

Due to a series of injuries over the years, I've become a regular in the PT world, and because of that I can honestly say Galena Sport Physical Therapy is the best in the Reno/Tahoe area. Not only are they extremely friendly, they really know what they are doing. The care they provide, the detailed explanations of every thing they have you do, is the best I've come across. I was there last week. It went well. We scheduled all my appointments until the end of September. . I received a print out from the lady at the desk who did my scheduling. I came in for my scheduled appointment this Tuesday. I was told I was not on the calendar and none of my appointments which spent time doing with the lady at the desk last week setting up to clear to the end of September were not in the calendar, either. I was unable to be seen on Tuesday. The earliest I could get in at a time that would work for me would be the second week in September. None of my scheduled appointments were available to be rescheduled. Despite having received a printout of my appointments, I was just out of luck. They have no idea what happened.. I would not recommend this place at all if you expect to have your appointment scheduled upon times and days you agree upon. I was extremely frustrated and angry. I will be looking at another physical therapy group that is more efficient and considerate of a clients time when the person shows up for an appointment, the appointment exist and future appointments exist. Look for another group if you value your time. read more

What can I say. Come here before you go anywhere else. I received top notch PT here after my total left knee replacement in October of 2021. I can't tell you how broken I was physically and mentally after the surgery. Within 1 month of PT, I was feeling so much better. Ive been to several physical therapists through Reno and Sparks, and never got this kind of level of treatment. All I can say is that the care that went into getting my mobility back was truly a miracle. The staff and team here are of the utmost professional as you can get. Kind and caring. Every time I came in, I left feeling amazing and in the best shape ever! My right knee is also requiring surgery. I will come back here for my rehab, that's a for sure! Having been an athlete my entire life and having personally recommended Galena Sports PT since receiving several weeks of expert care when I was recovering from rotator cuff surgery in 2017, my most recent experience was nothing less than extremely disappointing. First, they were double booking and left me waiting for about 15 minutes for my scheduled service. Secondly, my therapist completely avoided me and couldn't even come up and say hello, tell me they were running behind, or apologize for the delay, all of which I would have understood. Sarah, the therapist that eventually assisted was so incredibly rude, without introduction, pointed at me and indicated I should follow, took me to a machine I was unfamiliar with considering this was only my second visit for my current spinal issue, and barked the order,"get on," not unlike something you would expect of Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. My visit only went downhill from there. I would like to say it was only my therapists that failed but while I was waiting I had time to watch others and they too were overbooked. I actually witnessed one client working with another pt on a machine where his shoulder dangerously rolled, initially voicing shock and then telling his therapist who was still in the area but working with another client, was at first ignored and eventually asked if he felt any pain. He was instructed to continue with nothing more than a cursory show of concern or response from his treatment 'professional'. I don't know what happened to this place but they most certainly have declined in the level of care they once offered and rather than recommend their services will discourage it as there are much better and much more professional PT services available. read more

If this review was just about the people working there it would be 5 stars. Everyone was so nice and I loved being greeted by a sweet dog every day. But unfortunately, I feel the physical therapy aspect of going to Galena was 1 star. I had shoulder pain that was caused by very specific movements with an unknown cause. A few visits in they overworked my shoulder and I was in terrible pain so they cut it back. The trainer said they kept kicking themselves for pushing me too far so early. I was completely understanding because I figured that happens. But then they switched to deciding it must be an issue with my ribs and not a shoulder issue at all. So for my last two visits seeing them they focused on my ribs. I was then told to just go home for 3 weeks (I was still having all the same pain) and to just call them if it doesn't get better. To be sent home, while still in the same amount of pain as when I started 6 weeks previously & with no solution to my pain, did not sit right with me at all. So I started going to another PT in Reno who knew within 2 visits that I needed to see a shoulder specialist and that PT wasn't going to solve my problem. After seeing the shoulder specialist and getting a steroid injection all of my pain is gone. I feel like my money and time were completely wasted at Galena and I am so disappointed to have a place send me home after taking my money with no solution. read more

PT has been the best thing in my life. I couldn't imagine going to any other PT clinic. Everyone at Galena Sport Physical Therapy is so amazing! They greet you with warm smiling faces and they really help you with the reason you are going to PT. They use manual therapy along with exercise therapy to help you strengthen your body. As someone who has suffered from horrible hip pain for 15 years I was very skeptical going into PT. Everyone I had talked to just said is was self torture and that it wouldn't help. But boy were they wrong. In the first 2 months of PT, I was already feeling so much better. I was off my narcotic pain meds and I was able to do more than I ever thought I could. I have now been going to PT for about 7 months. I happened to tear something in my hip while at a sporting event so I essentially restarted PT 3 months into it. Which was not a bad thing. I went back to the basics and regained the strength I had lost from the injury. I then graduated from PT 2 days before my full hip replacement surgery so that once I was able to start PT again, I would have a new file for post hip replacement therapy. After my surgery, I started with the basics again. And it was a lot harder doing the basics after the surgery. But I know I was stronger than others who received hip replacements who didn't have PT beforehand. It wasn't long until I was back to where I left off. And since then, I keep getting harder workouts to strengthen my muscles. read more

You see your therapist for ~10 minutes and then spend the next 40-50 with a UNR student tech with very little training (students trying to get shadowing hours for admission to PA or PT school) who directs you through your exercises. A few weeks into my treatment, their athletic trainer filled in for a tech and had to correct my form on a ton of exercises I'd been doing for weeks. Your appointment may be an hour, but you're not actually spending an hour with a PT or a PT assistant. You're spending the vast majority of it with someone who should only be watching the PTs and PTAs do their thing and maybe disinfect equipment. Edit/update: Please note that a representative of Galena Sport PT has responded to my review asking what upgrades/changes they can make as a company. I'm not sure why they are asking me for tips on how to better train their techs. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Galena Sport. I worked with the team at the MidTown location for well over a year after a bad car accident that involved a protracted recovery. Nicole, Trevor, Alex and Renee all were amazing! They saw me through months of rehab, including preparing for and recovering from spinal surgery. Nicole was my PT and was incredible. In addition to doing the best manual therapy I have ever had, she had training in multiple modalities and always seemed to have a technique that would work to break up muscle spasms, reduce pain and get me feeling better. Trevor and Alex were knowledge, kind and always supportive. I am not sure that you can leave a session with one of them without having learned something new. It can be awkward and intimidating to try new exercises (especially in front of others) but these two put you right and ease and are always so encouraging. Renee is amazing, she made sure my service that there was no interruption in my services despite an insurance change and various billing peculiarities with my insurance. She was kind, welcoming and always had me smiling. In the end, this team got me through some of the hardest times that I have faced. They put me back together physically but also always were just amazing and caring people throughout. I hate that I had to go through this event, but in so many ways getting to know the amazing folks at Galena and being able to benefit from their knowledge and kindness was a silver lining and something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. read more

I've always had chronic shoulder and lower back pain for as long as I can remember. I'm an accountant, so I guess it comes with the territory. I've been to many chiropractors and had countless massages and even been to another physical therapist before, but sadly, they only provide temporary relief, if at all. I went to Galena Sport PT upon the recommendation of my primary doctor. I've been feeling discomfort on my knees lately, and this time I didn't want to just leave it to the care of a chiropractor. My doctor sounded really confident that the folks at Galena Sport PT will be able to address my knee issues. Setting up the appointment, as well as the check in process, was a breeze. The treatment area is open, I mean open, as in the treatment tables are in one room and clients pick a table, and their therapist would then join them and start treatment. There were several apparatus attached to each station. Therapists mill about, all looking sporty, but in a professional kind of way. To me, the environment seemed relax, but very efficient-looking. Effective? We shall see. Jen conducted my initial evaluation, in a private room this time. She was thorough and very knowledgeable. But above all, she seemed to understand where my discomfort was coming from and how to treat it. I was still skeptical. I've heard this much before, and been disappointed just as much. After that, Jen took me to one of the treatment tables in the common area, and went to work. I thought I was just going to get a little bit of stretching and strength testing, but Jen actually gave me a massage (of sorts). She worked my muscles and I swear, I haven't felt that kind of relief in a really long time. She knew exactly where to poke and press. It felt amazing. All through the treatment, Jen was warm and positive and very, very confident that she could actually help me rid of the pain I've been feeling all these years. After Jen's treatment, she had Lindsay run me through some exercises that I could do on my own in between treatments. Lindsay was upbeat, yet still very professional. I have to say, with just a few minutes of those simple exercises, I actually broke sweat. I have to say, I was very impressed with Galena Sport on this visit. I'm actually looking forward to coming back and see what Jen and the rest of the team can do to help me. If this first visit was any indication, I think I'm off to a good start. read more

This review is specifically for Melanie Eller at the Caughlin Ranch location. I have seen Melanie for 2 separate sports related injuries and would give 6 stars if I could. She is beyond amazing in her skill, knowledge, and goal oriented approach. As a avid rock climber, I have seen many PTs over the years and have never found a more thorough and passionate PT than Melanie. She is so specific with her evaluation, rehab exercises, and overall attention of care for her patients. Melanie has a very hands on approach and is very involved and wants to see each patient back to the activity they love. Also, the staff at Galena Sport is overall very friendly and professional. I honestly used to cringe at the thought of going to PT, but with Melanie I actually look forward to going as I know she will thoroughly evaluate the entire situation, give me the tools to rehab the injury, and I will be educated during the process to better understand my body and prevent future injuries. This is a first class, exceptional establishment. I dislocated my shoulder on 1-8-19. My surgeon recommended Galena Sport Therapy for my recovery. They work on more that just Sports injury's. Sessions and exercises were explained to me step by step so I knew what section of my injury was being effected by that particular exercise. The Therapists were very professional. Peter in particular was outstanding! The scheduling staff was very accommodating when having to change my scheduled sessions due to a lack of communication from Workers Comp. Galena Sport Physical Therapy is by far the best physical therapy clinic in which I have received treatment. I am currently a patient of the Wedge Parkway facility. My physical therapist was voted best in Reno for 2017. From the minute I walk through the door, I am greeted by the smiling faces of the receptionists. I have had various issues and surgeries that have required physical therapy assistance. Not only are the physical therapists some of the best I have known, the aides are thoroughly trained to follow the directions of the therapist to assist the patient in completing tasks relating to their specific needs. Even when I have felt frustrated or had difficulty, there is ongoing encouragement and support. I highly recommend Galena Sport for anyone who needs physical therapy. read more

Melanie was fantastic with her hands on Therapy! I was in a lot of pain in the cervical and lumbar region of the spine. Following epidurals, the neurosurgeon recommended PT to adjust me muscular/skeletal structure. Melanie for 3 months and 2 time a day made the difficult adjustments and 6 months late, I,m following her exercises and stretches, I am still pain free! I will continue the routine and hope it will continue to stave off surgery. read more

My husband and I have gotten a lot of physical therapy from various providers and Galena Sport is by far the best. I have been there for a torn hamstring and tennis elbow / cubital tunnel syndrome. I had to go to PT for my back, and this is definitely the best place for physical therapy in the Reno area. The facility is clean, neat and cheerful. The staff is professional, caring, friendly and fun. Jen, one of the PTs, spent a lot of time working on my back muscles and then after loosening them up, she designed a program to strengthen not only my upper back, but also my core - where a lot of my problems were coming from. She and the rest of the staff there are responsible for my full recovery - I am better now than i was 5 years ago!!! They were terrific educating me on how to prevent further problems. read more

I could hardly sleep at night let alone do all the physical activities I like. Over time things got loosened up, they helped strengthen my back and now I'm feeling groovy!! I really appreciate their kind and compassionate ways combined with their professional expertise. They know what they're doing and they fixed me up. I sustained a shoulder injury in the spring time, and was referred to GSPT. I honestly didn't know what to expect as this is my first time in physical therapy. From the very first time i walked in the door, the experience was really amazing. The staff are second to none, and I cannot speak highly enough about them. I'm wondering if these 5 star reviews went to the same place I did. Pros- Jen the owner seems knowledgeable, and when she actually works on you, understands what areas need manual manipulation. The staff is friendly and the facility is nice. That is where the positive stops. I've had a lot of Pt due to injuries or surgeries so I know what to expect. This place felt like a PT factory. The first PT I was given did not seem to have any clue what they were doing. After the shortest eval in history, they informed me that on my next visit I should just take an empty table and someone wld be with me. I was told the majority of the session wld be me doing exercises. Then I was given to a tech who gave 2 very low intensity exercises and a stretch that didn't stretch anything. The next time I was given a PT that at least knew what she was doing. However, after working on me for 10-15 minutes, I was handed over to a tech who stood there watching me doing low intensity exercises. I explained that I already did and had been doing these exercises at a higher level for years. I was told "we will see how you do and work up to harder". One tech even argued with me as to what muscle I was using in a particular exercise. As an Athletic trainer, and lifetime athlete, I think I know my muscles. Each time I came in I was given a different tech. Each time I was given the same exercises and told we would work up to harder, as they apparently have to give you what the PT instructs them to, but she has no idea how you are doing. One exercise I was told to work up to 100 reps and then we wld add bands. I did 100 on my first day. Never did get bands. I know the drill, certainly part of the session is doing exercises and working with a tech, but I usually spend at least half of the session with the PT. To be billed about $200 for doing low intensity exercises while being babysat by a tech, is ridiculous. There was no effort to actually work with the patient as an individual. Just hand out a generic sheet of exercises, 3 sets of 10, and be done with it. The last straw was when I found out I was being overcharged. I can forgive the mistake, mistakes happen, but it took me 5 phone calls to get my money back. I was given the run around that it was a credit on my account. Why would I come back? In the past I would walk out of PT feeling like I had had a pretty good workout. Here I walked out feeling like I had done nothing. My insurance did not approve very many sessions, so I am very angry that I used the majority of them sitting in their place doing exercises I was already doing at home and at the gym. read more
