We were referred to Marco Polo by my wife's colleague who had a great experience. Based on that & web comparisons, we contacted Marco and had a date set. The night (past 11pm) before the move we were notified that only 2 guys were coming because of a last-minute job, but Marco himself would be part of our crew--okay, that's fine. They showed up RIGHT on time and were courteous, friendly and ready to rock & roll. When I asked about the wardrobe boxes we requested, I was told they didn't have any, and could wrap everything in trash bags or move it ourselves...well, that's disappointing because we made the request & had it confirmed in writing, AND you state on your website "Our truck comes fully loaded with all that you might need. At last moment if you require any packing material, it will be with our team" but that's fine, we'll figure something out (like 3 more carloads on our own). My wife wants me to give Marco Polo 5 stars, but I feel she can write her own review if she feels that strongly. I'm giving them a solid 4 because really, the move would not have happened without them. Both of the guys on our crew were extremely focused, seeming to never tire--they didn't take more than a couple bathroom breaks the whole 8 hours! They always say to get 3 estimates before choosing a moving company. So, 2 months before my Sept. 1st move, I did just that and Marco Polo Moving & Storage was by far the best. They quoted me $89/hr for two men + truck for a 3-hr. minimum. I figured it would take about 5 hours to move my tiny studio apartment in Quincy to Brighton... When the day finally came, I was a bit nervous since I was moving on the same day/ neighborhood as all the college students, not to mention it was the first time I had ever hired movers.. But, my worries were put to rest when Younes called me at 8:45am to tell me he was on his way. He showed up with one employee and a big truck w/ lift gate on the back. It took about 2 hrs to load the truck. When they met me at the new place about an hour later, they had picked up another employee to help speed up the process since there was no elevator.. Overall, it took only 4.5 hours to move everything for a grand total of $598. Everything was handled with care, and the price was unbeatable. Book them now!!!! These guys are great! They charge by the hour but really bust their butts. I have moved our family twelve times and Marco Polo are the best movers I have ever used. They moved us out of a three bedroom third floor to a multi level home in six hours. They were very careful with all our stuff and wrapped everything nicely so it would not be damaged. They also moved things around in the new house to where I wanted them and were so polite and professional. To top it off they were right on time in the morning! My wife and I hired Marco Polo 13 months ago to move us out of a one bdrm condo, and into a storage unit just 1 mile away..Well, by our own fault, our unit was closed due to the holiday wknd. That morning we got there (with a full truck of stuff), and we had no access to it..BIG problem right? Younes and his guys instantly got on the phone, made a few calls, offered some suggestions on other storage places..We luckily figured out that UHaul in weymouth was open early on sundays..so disaster averted. It was great because his crew stayed calm, didnt appear to be pissed off, and was happy that we found a quick solution..All total, we only lost about an hour (which Younes didnt even charge us for !) Him and his 2 other guys unloaded our stuff and stored it for us quickly and with care, it was really nice to see. Their rates are super reasonable..After calling around some other places, he easily had the best quote, 90$/hour. We booked Marco Polo a couple weeks prior to our move from the storage to our new house in Easton., loaded up the truck swiftly and carefully.. we HIGHLY recommend these guys..They are PRO's, and definitely have the best rates around.. The movers we had originally hired- bailed at the last minute- and I am SO THANKFUL they did!!! We called Marco Polo movers and they were able to fit us in, last minute, during PEAK moving season! These guys were UH-MAZ-ING!!! They handled our move into the North End, flawlessly (which is a feat, if you know anything about the North End!) They went to city hall and took care of the street permits for us so we didn't have to take the day off of work (and we all know how much of a PAIN city hall can be!) - they showed up EXACTLY when they said they - and even called about 10 minutes out to say they were in traffic "just in case" they didn't make it on time. They were among the lowest quotes we received, they were within the time limit they quoted, they moved quickly and smoothly, up and down 4 flights of stairs, took EXCELLENT care of our stuff and were courteous, friendly and super professional! I wouldnt even give this company a 1 but I dont have the option to give 0 stars. This company is AWFUL. I hired them, they showed up 3 HOURS LATE. The destroyed my beds headboard, cracked my 46" plasma TV from top to bottom and ruined other little items as well. I have called and emailed numerous times and Younes the owner with NOT call me back. Now I have to take the next step to file a claim with the courts. Make sure that you ask about insurance and not pay them until you check out all your belongings if you still decide to go with this company. Good rates, super responsive, very nice people. The problem was they were very inefficient. We had more stuff than they expected; that was our fault. But they didn't have a dolly, or other basic tools movers use to save themselves work. They'd carry one box at a time. It took forever and cost more in the end. Again - great people, very nice. I wholeheartedly recommend Marco Polo Moving and Storage! My permanent home is in CA but i have been staying in MA with a new grandchild. My daughter hired this company to move some furniture I had shipped to her house to furnish my new living quarters in MA. I have the biggest, heaviest couch in all of New England and it was mid-July heat. I misjudged the access to the house in terms of the difficulty of navigating steps to the first floor but Younes and his crewmember, also a very physically fit professional, were very accommodating and really fantastic to work with. All my items were wrapped and handled very nicely. Choosing a mover is scary but this company makes it easy and their prices are very reasonable and the quality of work is impeccable. read more

I hired Marcopolo movers for a local move from Quincy to Brookline. Younes provided great communication prior to the move and on the day of-- he called and asked if he could come 15 minutes early! What a great sign! Not a minute wasted as he and his helper Abdelmajid surveyed all my belongings and got started right away loading the truck. They handled everything with great care, and with a smile on their faces. I did not worry about any of my belongings and what a relief that is! They arrived in a timely fashion to my new apartment, and again started unloading instantly. I have to give Younes credit for getting my large leather sofa through the apartment door--he and Abdelmajid did not give up!! I don't know what I would have done if they said "we can't do this." I highly recommend Marco Polo moving company. I got several quotes and Marco was well below every other company. When they arrived I had so much more stuff to move than we had previously discussed. Marco and his partner were packing ninjas and got all my furniture and all of my boxes to fit perfectly. I still don't know how they did it! Everything was unpacked very quickly and there was zero damage to my stuff! Marco was very friendly and made the whole process of moving stress free and easy. Marco Polo showed up on time and worked hard without a break until my move was complete. They handled my furniture with care and not one wine glass was chipped or broken. Younes stuck to the rate he quoted and I am very satisfied with my move. My only comment is that they opted not to come out to my place and do an estimate prior to my move, which I suggested. I tried to be clear on the phone that I didn't have a lot of furniture but DID have a lot of boxes in the apartment. I even said in an email that I had about 20 addtional boxes in the basement, but I think something was lost in translation because they were surprised to see that I had more than 20 boxes TOTAL the day of the move. It took a lot longer than they had planned, but they handled it with professionalism. I felt badly that my move took longer than they thought, but I had tried to be clear and they had turned down my offer to come out for an on-site estimate. So my advice is to be really clear in your email how many boxes and what furniture you have to try and avoid any confusion the day of the move. I would use Marco Polo again and recommend them to friends and family. I know they were surprised when they showed up that day, but I give them high marks for handling it very well and just working hard until the job was done. They handled themselves well under pressure and I think that's often the acid test for a good business, what happens when things don't go exactly as planned. This was the third moving company we used. I can only give it 2 stars. They're not complete scammers, but I wasn't wowed by them either. Out of four moving companies, there were two better. I think Younes is the main person / owner for Marco Polo. They had decent reviews when we employed them in early September 2011 but since then there have been a few less enthusiastic reviews. Younes was pretty good with his quote and the movers were pretty efficient. They were a bit engrossed with moving so they weren't as friendly as they could have been. And they broke/chipped two items and lost the bolts and washers for my futon and then expected that I should go buy them myself at Home Depot. Towards the end we couldn't track them down to "finish" / clock out for maybe 10-15 mins. And sure, I'll give them that they know Extra Space Storage in Quincy, MA (which is where they have some of their trucks). I bought them some burgers as we were moving around lunchtime and I have read some etiquette guides that movers do not expect tips, but Younes was fairly direct and unabashed about asking for a tip as it was hot (which we did not give due to above factors). Rate was only okay. (Oh, they did not reimburse me for the damages or lost bolts/washers.) read more

The only way these guys could be more like angels would be if they had wings. And I'm sure they wished they did when moving me out of my second floor apartment in Brookline into my third floor apartment in Newton. With no elevator on either end. I was referred to Marco by a colleague of mine after I'd gotten an estimate from another company that seemed really high. His estimate was far and away better than the other guys, and he was just a sweetheart to talk to. On the day of the move, Marco himself and two other gentlemen came to my apartment, quickly assessed the rooms, and immediately got to work. And they worked the WHOLE time. This was not an easy move--getting out of the old place wasn't so bad, but the new place? Marco looked at it and diplomatically told me "this is a very special third floor." Translation: this is a nightmare. Narrow stairwell--check. Building on a hill so it's actually four flights of stairs instead of three--check. Client who had grossly underestimated the weight, size, and volume of crap that she needed to move--check. I knew it was going to be tough--I figured the couch, dresser, and box spring wouldn't make it up the stairs, but the landlord told me it was possible to hoist items up via the balcony in the back, which I'd told Marco about ahead of time. But because of my ineptitude in visual assessment of size, these guys actually had to hoist all that plus my headboard and mattress up not just once, but twice--as they couldn't go directly to the third floor, but rather, had to first go to the second floor balcony, then to the third. These guys worked harder than anything I've ever seen, and they were friendly and pleasant the whole time. Jacob and the other gentleman (I forgot his name!!) were nothing but friendly, courteous, and kept their sense of humor even when they were obviously in for more than they'd bargained for. I hadn't moved in seven years, and honestly, I think if anyone else had done this move, I would have had a complete meltdown it was such a pain. But they worked so hard, were so nice, and had such a great attitude, I had complete faith that everything would turn out fine. The only thing I would have changed would have been to trust my gut when he told me he was going to bring two guys. I had a feeling it was a four-person job, but I didn't say anything. As a result, the job took longer than expected, but that wasn't at all their fault--I hadn't moved for so long I'd forgotten just how insane it can be. So my tips are the following: 1. Hire these guys. 2. OVER-estimate the amount of stuff you have. 3. You can't go wrong being as descriptive as possible about the possible challenges of the move. I think if I'd better articulated things on my end, it would have been even smoother. Marco is one of the good guys: he's going to give you a fair price, work like crazy, and make you feel like everything is going to be just fine, even when your couch is swinging off a third floor balcony. read more

I moved twice now with Marco Polo and I must say it was the best choice possible. I hate moving, and I previously found the whole experience daunting and stressful. Marco and his crew make everything easy and hands-off. They wrap furniture with care, loading items into their truck carefully (yet remarkably quickly). They were happy to discuss any particular concerns of mine, but didn't need any guidance. The entire experience was delightful thanks to Marco Polo, and felt more like moving with family rather than strangers... if your family was really buff, fast, motivated, and courteous. If you have a studio or one bedroom apartment, or only have boxes or luggage to be carried, they would probably be fine for your move. For larger moves, or if you have heavy appliances, I'd go with a more professional company. Compared to four other companies that I worked with in the past, both local and long distance, they are VERY slow. You need multiple people checking on them in your apartment and when they are loading the truck so that they don't shirk. I realized this when loading was almost over and things then got faster quite a bit. They tend to complain during the job, as if they are doing you a favor. They spend long periods "organizing their truck", adding to your bill -- do request a larger truck in advance, or if your move is short distance, tell them multiple trips is OK so that they don't waste too much time organizing. Don't let them pack for you or your move will take forever. They speak a foreign language among themselves during your move, so if you don't like that, tell them in advance. The owner keeps talking on his phone with other customers during your move. Not professional. When you see the final bill, make sure you verify the amount of packing items they billed you for, they exaggerate quite a bit. Your better bet would be to purchase your own packing materials from Home Depot, Costco, etc. You will ALWAYS save, and you can return the unused items. Make sure you request quotes from multiple companies, and let them compete with each other for the price. Especially during non-peak seasons, you can expect to get very good discounts. read more

The man upstairs from me was moving a few new things into his apartment not a real move just some new /used furniture and not much at that.. This man was giving me his old sofa. Marco Polo Moving Company was hired for a 3 hours minimum that is there requirement. They were supposed to arrive between 12pm to 1 pm Saturday December 1st. they arrived at 5:44 pm 4 1/2 hours late... There was only a few thing to move and it took them only 1 hour. So there is 2 hours left on their clock (right)? Now the sofa they took from this man's apartment was going approximately 1.4 miles to a my apartment and when they got to my apartment they were to move 1 sofa out of this unit and move the newly given to me sofa in. Oh and bye the way my apartment is a first floor apartment. (no heavy lifting here) They were also told they would be paid a (little extra) for this. When they got to my apartment they began to move my old sofa out and then told me it was jammed in the hallway they could not move it any further they said..They were swearing and saying they were going to leave it right there stuck in the hallway and demanded I give them $200.00 dollars cash. I was so upset and I said to them I don't have that kind of money on me and besides I told you I was going to give you a little extra with a check back at the other apartment house. They didn't say back there they had any problem with a check. They kept threatening to leave with the sofa jammed in the hallway. So I wrote him the check for $200.00 (what could I do) he would not let me make the check out to the company he insisted I just write Marco no last name on the check... Strange!!! Okay 30 seconds after I write the check magically my jammed sofa went right out the hallway no problem at all. Then they bring in my newly given to me white sofa. They put it in place and were getting ready to jump in the truck to leave when I said to them where are the cushions? They go back to the truck open it up and the cushions are in there on the floor with foot prints on them. I said to them next are you going to leave the sofa I'm throwing out in the middle of the walkway? Their next move was to pick it up and move the sofa to block the back of my car. Then they left. Reliable, careful and quick. I had a last minute move this past weekend and was hesitant to book with an unfamiliar mover. I called Marco Polo based off a yelp review and crossed my fingers. they fit me in at my convenience and showed up on time. They were very thoughtful about the packing and moving of my valuables. They handled my fragile items carefully on and off their new, fully equipped moving truck. These guys also hauled it quickly. It was really hot last saturday, so the best part was being finished with move and on beach by 1. I cant say enough good things about these guys. Ill definitely use them again. read more

Marco Polo helped us move in 2012 (from Natick to Quincy) and 2013 (from Quincy to Boston). Both times were great experiences: they were prompt, friendly, careful, and fast. When unexpected glitches came up, Younes and his team dealt with them easily and with zero stress for us. He even helped with room layout! Younes and his guys have moved me twice (May 2012 & July 2016), the second time involved storing our stuff for a week. Both times he and his guys were in and out on the loading and unloading in the blink of an eye. This assumes you've packed your own stuff, but if you haven't or have a few things you want them to pack/wrap (TV/large furniture) they will do that for short money. I recently moved back with my parents after selling my condo. Due to the waiting game with the buyer's mortgage company, I wasn't able to book Marco Polo until the last possible minute. Younes (the owner) accomodated my schedule. They showed up ON TIME!! and moved my stuff back in an hour. I only hired them to move big items (sofa, tv table etc..) The quote they gave me was what they ended up charging me plus wrapping the sofa and tape which, I'm assuming my father agreed to (I wasn't there for the actual move). Overall, I'd use them again, although I'd have them move all my stuff instead of just big items. read more

After a 90 degree heat wave and moving a 3 story house for 10 hours, these men arrived at my place after fighting Boston traffic at 5pm ready to work. They kept all their promises and moved me into my new place. Not an easy job! The place was on the second floor and had very tight turns to get furniture in. I do not recommend using Marco Polo. I moved 2 weeks ago my estimate said it would take about 3 hours and bc I am a new client 89.00 an hour and in my quote the owner happened to tell me hell be doing my move along with another person. I also told him every item that we had. I was glad at first . Well... my move which started at 9 ended at 2:30. 5.5 hours and it was a little over $600.00 , Just to make this brief it was him and a young male in his 20s. I told this young man wow your doing everything yourself and his response was "always im about my money". The owner whom has light blue I believe stayed on the truck the entire time just organizing the things that were passed to him he only came up when it came to the big items that he had to assist on which was the couch, bed and dressers. The young male did everything else. So we then arrive to the new place it was taking so long that I myself started saying let me get a few things and brought items into the apartment because this young man was doing everything himself pretty much. At the end of it all it was 2:30 a $600 bill which the owner went over with me he grabbed my cheek and said " you are beautiful I mean it you are really beautiful , please smile always smile you look beautiful when you smile". Talk about unprofessional ..im in my 20s and he looks about 50. I didn't want to write a bad review because the young man who moved everything by himself didn't deserve it but I do not recommend them at all.. and especially if your a female and attractive.. he is a pig! read more
