It was $149 apiece without insurance fine when we got there I was taken in first and they did at least 20 x-rays. Then they cleaned my teeth with a water pack. They said he needed a deep cleaning and they wouldn't clean his teeth. When I made the appointment, I asked for cleaning for both of us, they never told us they had to do complete x-rays, and never also said that they would not clean the teeth If there was any problems. I would not go there again and I would not recommend them. I called back to complain and all they did was say you signed a form that consented to this! No, gee, we're sorry you weren't happy. Just don't go there!

I'm a little sad to write this. I've been bringing my 7 and 8 year old here since they were babies…read moreand, with few exceptions, we have had good experiences. My daughter is autistic and non-speaking and also has some medical trauma, so being in any clinical setting is understandably upsetting for her. She is petrified from the moment we walk in; she cries on and off, clings to me like a koala, and refuses to open her eyes from the second we enter the building, but is still pretty compliant with her (very basic) exam. We usually have to wait 15-20 minutes before being taken back, which doesn't help either, but I get it. Today we got some of the usual stares and eye-rolls when my daughter started getting upset, which I don't like but tolerate. We are used to it. My daughter's exam began first, and the hygienist was wonderful with her. She finished before my son was done, so I took my daughter outside to grandma and then returned for my son. When I came back, my daughter's hygienist was huddled up with my son's (he was halfway through his exam, still in the chair) having an animated, whispered conversation that switched topic as soon as the one facing the doorway saw that I had returned (she all of a sudden started pointing to a picture of three kids at my son's hygienist's work station and started more loudly talking about them). In all honestly, they might not have been talking about us or my daughter's behavior during our visit, but it felt like they were. And they obviously knew that they looked like they were, since they so obviously changed the topic and manner in which they were speaking, and then abruptly ended the conversation. And as a nurse, believe me I get it. We all need to vent after a difficult assignment. But as the parent of a disabled child, it stings. I've come to expect this kind of behavior from average people when we're out and about, but in a professional/medical setting I expect better. It caught me off guard. We will probably continue to come here, because we have had mostly good experiences and I know everyone has an off day. It's also entirely possible that we were not the topic of conversation between these two hygienists, but it certainly seemed like we were, and it continues to bother me. My daughter does the best that she can, and it usually isn't "good enough" by most people's standards, but I am very, very proud of her and her progress. Maybe save the personal conversations about your patients for when they've left for the day.

They always explain things clearly and give multiple treatment options when there are decisions to make, which I really appreciate as a parent. One of my kids has very high dental anxiety, and today was her third visit. She came out saying she's not nervous about the dentist anymore, which honestly feels like a huge win for our family. Dr Suzuki needs to take responsibility for discussing sedation options with extraction patients well before they make it to his chair. I drove a long way to have a molar extraction done and left knowing that I am not viewed as an individual with individual needs. In the first stages of having a fixed bridge created, I was expected to be awake for a molar extraction that turned out not only to be loud but also difficult; three roots had calcified to the bone, and they were pried back and forth, back and forth out of my head. I heard Every. Awful. Cracking sound and felt wave after wave of nausea from the intense pressure across my upper jaw. There was zero conversation about nitrous oxide prior to his just getting 'er done via local numbing -- only a curt ultimatum: I could drive all the way back to Berkeley and return another day if I wanted anaesthesia, or I could lay back and take it. He didn't hesitate to tell me the post-mauling details afterward while I sat there stunned. Why would I want to hear the gory details after I'd expected to have them mercifully blunted by lack of consciousness? No. This is not the 1800s.

Late in the evening - around 9:00 p.m. - we called an emergency pediatric dental advice line that some Bay Area dentists participate in, hoping to get immediate guidance. Thankfully, Dr. Ozzie answered my call. She stayed on the phone with me for nearly 45 minutes, carefully listening as I explained what the ER had shared. She even texted me from her personal phone so I could send X-rays, reviewed them thoroughly, and provided a clear diagnosis along with thoughtful guidance on what to discuss with our pediatric orthodontist. Beyond that, she generously shared additional insights about children's breathing and what to address with our pediatrician before adult teeth come in. It was immediately obvious how knowledgeable Dr. Ozzie is - but even more evident is how much she genuinely cares about children and her work. What makes this experience so remarkable is that it was entirely over the phone: I had never met her, we didn't have an appointment, and this was simply a random emergency call to the first available pediatric dentist. Yet she treated us with incredible kindness, patience, and attention. I have never encountered a dentist like Dr. Ozzie. I only wish our insurance were in-network with her practice. I am deeply grateful for the time and care she gave us during a stressful moment. Thank you, Dr. Ozzie - your patients are truly lucky.
