I always love Galway House, it's such a great neighborhood joint. Definitely don't expect anything crazy but it's always good bang for your buck and tasty. Drinks are also always cheap. I got the 18oz sirloin and it was cooked perfectly and only $26! I always recommend especially if you want to catch a Celtics or Sox game in JP. happy going to the Gallway house for several years now. The fried shrimp it's really good. Unfortunately, the current waitress is very unfriendly and short - borderline rude. She has never smile and even her tone of voice is unfriendly. I decided to write this review today because I want to continue to come to this restaurant but her attitude is pushing me away. Today as I saw her coming from the back of the restaurant and realizing some of her empty tables were now occupied with new customers she looked surprisingly upset. I could not believe my eyes. The Galway House in Boston sure takes you back -- this place started in 1960, and that's exactly what it feels like walking in. We were greeted by a few servers almost immediately -- it felt good to know you were recognized. We grabbed ourselves a booth, ordered a few pints and some wine, and then put in our food order. We had the seafood platter -- broiled (key, not fried). Wow -- it had about 8 scallops, shrimp, and a nice piece of fish -- all tasty. We also ordered the steak tips -- they were great. I think they use the same marinade I make. Steamed broccoli, summer squash, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and fries rounded out the sides. Oh, get this -- for an extra $2, you can add the clam chowder when you order a main, so we definitely opted for that. All in all, it was a good experience, and I would definitely go back. My friends and I recently decided to give Galway another go. Once again, the ambience was great. I love the feel of a local Irish bar playing Boston sports on the TVs with the bar "regulars" hanging out. Our waiter was nice. We had a bit of trouble with the food -- a member of our party has an olive allergy and requested no olives on a dish, but was given them anyway. This happened last time we visited as well. We stayed for about an hour and were never brought water. Small things that can be fixed but definitely took away from the experience. Galway is great but would benefit from refocusing on details! read more

I got there pretty late so a few of the daily specials were gone. I ordered the stuffed sole which was pretty good. The meal came with soup or salad & for a $2 up charge I could substitute for chowder, which I did. The chowder tasted very good except for the clams which had a rubbery texture. I also ordered the calamari as a starter. The breading was nice but it was not worth $10. All in all a good meal for the price. I will certainly try it again. read more

We dropped by Galway House after a long walk in the Arnold Arboretum, and what a find it was! GH presents as a neighborhood pub, and it definitely is that: crowded, hopping, and filled with TV's and an active bar. But what sets it apart is the freshness and quality of the food and the capable and friendly service. Daniela, our server, had many customers, but she kept everyone well-served and was prompt to check in throughout the meal. We enjoyed Guiness draft and a "Black & Tan" (half Guiness, half cider). My partner had the fried shrimp with onion rings and I had the broiled scallops with fries, The scallops were (as advertised) very fresh with no hint of chemicals or preservatives, broiled in a butter and light crust - one of the best scallop dishes I have enjoyed in Boston. Servings were more than ample and the pricing is reasonable. The side of cole slaw was also good, not too sweet. Galway House knows how to prepare food! We will be back! read more

I've lived in JP my whole life, 31 years, and I haven't once been into Galway House. In the past 6 years or so, I've started making it a point to visit more places around my neighborhood, especially food and I've heard many good things about Galway House. The vibe of course is that of a classic diner from the 80s, and it certainly feels like it. Plenty of seating, very cozy, and the menu is not overwhelming, also the service is quite quick and relatively friendly. The best things about this restaurant I have to say is probably the prices and the food. I got a medium burger with the fixings (minus onions) and a side of steak fries and it was cooked PERFECTLY. It was probably the best burger I've had in over a decade or more. What really took the cake was the price. $13 for a huge burger and fries is LEGENDARY for most restaurants in this city and economy! We arrived and it was pretty busy, so we sat and ended up waiting 20 minutes or so before we were brought water or asked what we'd want. Once we got everything, the food was just ok. I got the Montreal Ribeye, which had a great crust but was a bit overdone. The Junior Ribeye wasn't a great hit either, with the Mac and Cheese being a little disappointing. Everything came with a cup of clam chowder, which was actually quite good -- the clams were hidden and it wasn't too thick or thin. Service was super friendly and quick witted, which was funny and nice! Galway House is a JP mainstay. The food is so much better than what you'd expect from a humble looking, down to earth bar/restaurant with TVs all over the place. It's a great place to watch games, of course, and, for that matter, to watch with the community as police caught the Boston Marathon bomber. The steaks are awesome, as are seafood dishes. The staff are wonderful, friendly and competent. We love this place and have loved it for decades. I hope they stick around forever! read more

Think of this place as the perfect blend of Irish pub meets family restaurant. I came after work on a Monday and it was moderately busy. Plenty of people were were socializing and I even saw a few kids eating, overall a super warm environment, at least for this time of day. Service was friendly and attentive. They start you off with bread and butter which was such a nice extra touch. I only came for a beer and onion rings. Their beer selection is pretty thorough; I got a Turtle Swamp beer (#supportlocal). I was fresh off my flight and I was looking for some good food to eat late at night. The atmosphere is pretty good, I like the fact it's more of a bar setting with food instead of the other way around. The server was very good in helping us and getting us situated. As far as the food I wasn't too impressed nonetheless it was decent and did fill the spot.
