As an executive chef of 10 years, sous chef for years before that etc etc, and now a bar manager have my own spot...! Let me offer my expert opinion I ordered a burger-MW and had a Weinstephaner draft. The burger was cooked perfectly, just a smidge pink centre juicy as hell, and perfectly seasoned. But complementing that is kind of like saying you did your job, which doesn't say much. It was the flavour. Let me tell you this burger was absolutely delicious. All of the ingredients were clearly fresh, crisp, to date, and treated with respect. With what I believe are 30 draft beers... they had what I would call the perfect variety of drafts. UnFortunately, they're lacking a little in spirits. An easy fix. Great find for trivia and good food on a Wednesday night! The trivia happens downstairs and it gets packed so best to get there early. We got there just in time and they sat us at one of the reserved tables till 8 then we had to go upstairs. But since it's on an app you can still play upstairs- it's not the same but it's something. The rounds each have a theme and all questions are around that theme. It's fun! The Quizmaster was great. At one point our team was tied for first place - so exciting!! However the last round killed us lol! I ordered the Greek salad with salmon and it was really good - salmon was cooked perfect and went well with the salad. Others ordered pizza which looked good. The hubs ordered shepherds pie which was really good - super flavorful and the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious! Really good. Wasn't expecting the food to be so good! We were in a group and service was good. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks! We're definitely coming back here again and hope to crush trivia next time! read more

Stopped in with a couple friends after dinner and we sat at the bar. I had the sangria and it was very refreshing. The vibe is very chill and inviting and there were a decent amount of people inside. The entrance to Garrison House can be a little confusing at first -- if you're facing the big bay windows, just use the door to the right. Once inside, the vibe is warm and welcoming. I went during brunch and appreciated the cozy booth seating, and I also noticed they have a bar area, which gives the space some versatility. Even though I'm not really a "brunch person," my guest is, and I liked that I could choose from either the brunch or lunch menu. It's nice not to feel boxed into one set of offerings. I'm also big on mocktails, so I decided to take a gamble on a drink (can't remember the name or ingredients) -- and it turned out to be safely tasty. I'd definitely order it again. For food, I had the huevos rancheros. The portion hit that sweet spot of filling yet light, leaving me satisfied without being overstuffed. My guest went with avocado toast topped with poached eggs and enjoyed their dish as well. Service was solid throughout -- we stayed long enough that servers changed, and everything stayed consistent. What is really awesome about this place is the atmosphere and the extensive selection of craft beers. This is indeed a great place to stop by for a happy hour. My low score relates to the bartender's ability to pour beer. I don't mind play more craft beer, but I'd like to get a full glass when I order it. Despite having had dinner and another round of drinks nearby, we decided to swing by here for 2 red sangrias, old fashion w/ Makers Mark, and an order of French fries. They were particularly slow since it was later in the night so we had no problem grabbing seats at the bar. The bar tender was preoccupied but friendly. Horrible. Came in on a weekend afternoon for lunch. 1 patron at the bar, zero customers indoors. We asked for a booth- 2 of the tables in the large area had not been cleaned off yet and we were seated next to one of the dirty tables. Our waiter came with menus, but didn't bring us water or ask for drinks for about 10 minutes. At that point he came and removed the menu from my hand as I was reading it, saying "we are switching over to the dinner menu" and began to walk away. I had to announce I would like a drink order and he said he would come back with a pad and paper, which he did. The drinks came out in a timely manner, but then the waiter never asked if we want food, and never came to check on us for at least 20 minutes. During that time several other workers passed by our table, didn't clean the dirty tables, and only asked us if we were cold. Staff seemed to be drinking and laughing behind the bar, which we could only hear, but not see. Finally I flagged down a staff member (not our waiter, since I hadn't seen him for a while) and asked where we should sit if we wanted service. She seemed confused and I said we had been sitting there for 30 or 40 minutes and no one has taken our order or checked on us. She asked what we wanted and my friend ordered a shot. We decided we would go around the corner to a pizza place instead. I still don't know where the staff was walking to and from- I think getting their steps in to go to the "outside area" (a couple tables where parking spots should be). The bar itself is pretty standard English pub, so no real reason to come here. Recommend going down the street to the Irish pub at coolidge corner instead. read more

Huge disappointment...the food was decent but the service was TERRIBLE. We were table of 3, ignored the entire 2.5 hours we were there unless we flagged someone down with multiple attempts. When we asked for the check and our server gave us a really bad attitude and a different server had to take over and process our payment. We are here last year after running The Marathon and were excited to come back, but this was the last time. I don't recommend this restaurant at all, sadly. read more

I came here on a Thursday evening to enjoy a cocktail with friends. The space is quite spacious despite its outward appearance, and it's also reasonably quiet. The upstairs is a great place for quiet and calm conversation. The staff were polite, attentive, and helpful. I tend to drink a lot of water when I come out to a bar, and we found our water jug frequently refilled without requesting it. My drink was the tipsy gardener, a whiskey drink featuring elderflower and cucumber. It was well balanced, slightly tart due to the lemon and simple syrup, and was refreshing on the way down. I would definitely come here again, and I strongly recommend Garrison house for a quick drink; well worth the price of a cocktail. And the cocktails are about 20-30% less expensive than those at other establishments with excellent quality. read more

Local watering hole with a wide range of guests sitting at the bar. Easy to establish conversations with all patrons and staff. Their old fashioned drink was on point but even more surprisingly, the food was excellent. The chicken wrap was my favorite as the chicken had been cooked into very thin and tasty strips (almost like a pate). Large draft beer selection too! read more

Having met the requirements of their Mug Club, I'm now a member and regular beer drinker. As such you an extra half pint for free and attend two parties a year. Great community vibe. The bar is a horrid setup physically. Coolers so deep into bartender space that they can't even reach five stool spots on one end. They kind of reach and toss/hand you stuff. Also the section is not wiped too often for same reason. Food is quality pub style. Salmon and steak dinners are delicious. Fries nice thin and crispy. Cobb salad is fresh and a delight. Avoid any fried fish here. The chef is not familiar with delicate seafood and the crust is mahogany brown hard and fish is destroyed by heat in overcooking. Sad in Boston on the Atlantic 4miles away. Drinks are great and top shelf liquor is priced at a bargain. They have An ample draft beer lineup, though they seem to be out of a lot of the choices. I ordered a common, local Sam Adam's draft. The pour spurted after only a third mug. "What else do you want?" Was the apology. Really appreciate most of the bartenders who make the best of their bar's ergonomic disaster. Greeting and friendly chat every time. We have found some employee shifts are always overwhelmed. Then the bar service is a disaster of neglect while they do cleanup and restock during 6oclock dinner? Need some courtesy training while in the weeds. Not the customers' problem while you're making extra money! Table side of the restaurant is where the service delivery is fine and customer focused. There's a downstairs a lot of people enjoy. I don't because of the musty smell sometimes covered by bleach. Stay upstairs. Great place overall try it! read more

I ordered a hamburger there, I took one bite and noticed it wasn't cooked, I mean it was "raw". It was frozen and cooked in the outside only. I had to go to the hospital cause i couldn't stop vomiting I missed two days of work, I was so so sick. I told the establishment, they didn't believe me. They provided me with a $15 gift card which would not cover, the service charge and or tip. Why would I want to go back there? Big mistake on my part is that i should have taken a photo, since they didn't believe me. But the waiter grabbed the dish off the table. Very bad experience! The nuts added so much crunch and the vinaigrette was tasty . The truffle fries were crunchy and inexpensive and delicious . The flavor bread pudding does change this particular one was so good . Our pizza was also served raw, and we needed to send it back so they could put it back in the oven - When it returned, the pizza was still raw. Overcooked chicken on our salad too. Had a fun time at Garrison House! We decided to make a reservation for 8PM on a Friday evening. Overall, the food was good. Shared the pizza as an appetizer, which I would say was good and would order again. I really enjoy variety in menu options, so I was excited to see the Black Bean Burger on the menu (which tasted like it was made in in-house vs. being a store bought patty). My only hesitation would be that the cookie skillet was not my personal favorite. It was a bit on the smaller side, and I don't remember it being advertised with the glaze on the top? The whipped cream side was good. Again, this was just a personal opinion, as I prefer ooey gooey cookie skillets without glaze. All-in-all, I would definitely come back! Downstairs they have the Village Social Club, which was also fun to be at after we finished up dinner. There is a lot to offer! read more

Not only is it a beautiful restaurant with truly high quality, elegant, delicious food, but the people and experience are great too. We love it so much that not only did I have a pre-wedding event here, we also bought out the downstairs (an amazing place of its own) for our wedding after party. (The restaurant was early empty.) The maple-seasoned Brussels sprouts were absolutely drenched in maple syrup -- couldn't taste anything else. The mushroom pizza wasn't bad but was extremely salty. I came here for dinner with my husband, and I appreciate that they label vegetarian and gf options. The pretzel bites were kind of bland in my opinion, but I don't like jalapeño cheese dip. The burrata with roasted pears looked good and they had salad options. I wish the eggplant pasta I got had more sauce, but the flavor was good. My husband said the steak frites were ok and he thought the salted caramel cookie skillet was pretty good. My breakfast poutine came to me with burnt fries and no "gravy" just watery sausage. It was bad. The chicken and waffles had good flavor but the portion size was disappointing with only one piece of each. The Power Bowl was far more of a salad. And the restaurant had kids' plastic cups but no kids menu? Garrison House was the only place with reservations available for Mother's Day and know I know why. And while they didn't specifically offer a MD brunch you'd think at least one person would wish the moms eating there a Happy Mother's Day. Nope. It was a bit depressing really. I love coming to Garrison House when I have the chance. The bartenders and servers always are friendly and dont let my glass go empty. I have been here for brunch on a Sunday where they had someone playing guitar and singing. I tried the breakfast tacos with home fries and they did not disappoint. After coming off a night of partaking in a few adult beverages, this was exactly what the doctor ordered. I have also checked out their village social club which is down the stairs. It is a totally different vibe, but I dig it. A while back I really wanted to watch a basketball game, but everything was full upstairs. The manager told me not to worry and to come with her. She brought me downstairs and got me a menu. She pulled down a projector from the stage and put on the game so I could watch! When some more people came for the game she actually turned on the volume too. I am not sure what her name is, but she is there just about every single time I come in. I have had two very different experiences with Garrison house and hope the bumps will continue to smooth out. First, I hosted a brunch here for a friend who was getting married. The food was excellent, and planning with the manager over email was a breeze. Unfortunately, service was slow and no one told us our waitress had to move over to the bar so I had to chase down our check. When I checked in, the hostess was not aware of the plans I made with the manager (special mimosa flights for guests, food allergies, we were bringing a cake, etc.) even though I went over them with her when she called to confirm the reservation the previous day. The second time (one month later) when visited I went to the bar downstairs and had a great time. We were given excellent service, the bartender was very knowledgable, and was able to make great recommendations. There was a band as well which was nice. I look forward to coming back to try more of their dishes. read more
