Amazing course- what you see online is what you get for views. Greens were very firm, as they should be given the course. The food was awesome as well with a great selection of smoked meat options. I was disappointed with the practice area. For the lengthy drive from either side of the state and the $300+ tee time, I felt that you shouldn't be hitting off of turf mats and hitting on a downhill slope at the short game area. I understand grass is tough to maintain in that climate, but the practice area should reflect that of the price you are paying. read more

The course is some of the best golf in the state. I take an annual trip here typically in September, and am always happy. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and have everything you need. My family and I stayed here on a trip up north in February, and it was a great spot to get a good dinner and clean room- The Barn was open, they might be renovating the main restaurant. If I were to only rate the golf course and accomodations, I'd give it five stars, easy. Great course in perfect condition. Quite similar to Chambers Bay. It was a five and a half hour round, though (6/8/24). We teed off at 11:00 AM and immediately we became the third group on #2 tee. The front 9 took three hours! We didn't see a marshal until hole 14 and all he did was apologize. We would joke with the foursome in front of us "see you on the next tee." Sometimes there were three foursomes (again) on the tee boxes. Our cart started receiving messages that we were playing slow around hole 13 That's like telling a table in a restaurant that they're eating slow when they're waiting for their food to be served. I was warned by friends before going that we should not eat there because the food is bad. After driving in from Seattle and playing the Par 3 (a lot of fun) we just wanted to keep it simple and ate at Danny Boy, After sitting for a while I went and got menus myself despite multiple servers passing by, and the bartender took good care of us from that point. I thought a burger was a safe choice and ordered it medium rare, but it was extra well done and tough to chew, The tater tots were good, though. The breakfast burrito in the Barn was also disappointing It's too bad. The entire experience would be on the level with Chambers Bay or Bandon Dunes if not for the pace of play and the food. read more

We come every year & love this place. We come for the golf; 4 rounds in 3 days. But this past week there, we saw a massive change. Danny Boy, which was always the great restaurant there, is now no longer open for lunch, and the food at dinner there has gone completely in the gutter. 5 fries come out with your burger now, and the pizzas have fully uncooked cheese layer. They also told us they were out of 90% of their whiskeys. I don't what's going on, but please go back to the old ways of doing things. read more

Been saving up to travel and play here. Very beautiful place and the course was amazing. Can see why it is rated so high. They are currently developing a second course and hotel. The putting course green outside the room was a lot of fun in the evening to play while drinking some wine. It is expensive to play and stay, and your food options are limited. The two restaurants at the course are very good (we had an excellent dinner at Danny Boy and great lunch in The Barn), but if you want something else, you are in the middle of nowhere. Options in Brewster are limited ( but there is a good family mexican restaurant there). You are also on the northern end of a wine region. There is one outside of Brewster, but it was closed on a Monday when we were there. Traveled down south towards Chelan and found Rio Vista Wines right on the river. More as you get to Chelan. Little bit of a drive there, but if you want to do something different other than golf, you do have that option. Thought the replay rate was a bit expensive, especially after staying there for 2 nights, But it is an expensive place to begin with. Supply and demand. Very friendly staff at hotel and on the course. Pro shop staff seemed newer. One gentleman was rude and didn't seem like he wanted to be there. Was our first time there and didn't know lay of the land. They didn't seem to mind until I asked. Then they explained everything in a friendly manor. We were perplexed at first, considering how much we paid to stay and play there. But the rest of the staff from the starter to beverage cart, halfway house, restaurant, and other on course maintenance staff more than made up for the pro shop staff. Gamble Sands is still a great golf course, all fescue no trees, links style course. Super fun, great risk/reward with bail outs design. I have played here more then 15 rounds which is alot for a 3-4 hour drive from Seattle. This review was required due to my last review being years ago. The experience is not as top notch as it used to be. From beginning to end it used to be 10/10 for me from the pro shop, starters, range, course conditions, staff, etc. Its all just a tad below of what it used to be. For example, eating at Danny boy's grill outdoor area, you would see the door swing open fast due to servers using their legs to open it, I understand if your arms are full, but what if there are staff/guests near the door? There are less holes with water available now, I suggest instead of 2 holes where they provide FREE water, to at least add one more hole during the summer where it is 100+ degrees. The biggest disappointment is tipping both kids at the cart dropoff and having them follow us to our cars to load bags and they just stood there not helping to load bags. Now while we totally are capable to load them ourselves, they just stood away and gave no inkling of even asking to help load, quite a disappointment. Remember, probably most of your guests, maybe 99.8% of them are traveling from afar to come to your property, you should make sure everything is a top notch experience. I would say everyone was friendly, smiley, and cordial, but it is just a tad less now, probably due to high volume of customers rolling through which I am happy for them. Just don't forget to keep high standards or you will have less returning "Gamble Sands is a no brainer return trip" saying. But you need to realize that the cart return experience is that last touch point for the customer at a golf course. End it properly. Something so simple as helping/offering to help load bags into the car (especially after both guys were tipped) closes out the experience, in a positive or negative way. For reference: I have played at Doral, Bandon Dunes, Chambers Bay, Trump National LA, TPC Scottsdale, PGA West Stadium Course, etc. Still had a lot of fun on the course as you can see by the pictures, greens are faster now, and even though wildfires were nearby, it was still beautiful. The course is quiet, and the fairways are nice and firm (lots of run) and easy to hit off of. I loved the greens...they are super fast but very true. The fringe is so large that you can expect to out in places where you would normally chip/pitch. There is even one par 3 you can putt from the tee box! The views are phenomenal, and the pace of play is about 4 - 4.5 hours. A good leisurely pace. No water or trees, a western Washington golfer's dream! But sand...whoa...tons. Just stay out of it!! The hotel there is outstanding. Everything is new and all rooms have a view of the massive putting green and the Columbia River down the bluff. My only complaint would be, there is no heated jacuzzi...the wading pool is a cool soaking pool, which is decent, but not what I needed after playing 18 AND the 14 hole par 3 course (which I highly recommend!). read more

Loved the property and accommodations. Such a unique experience with the lodging right on the large links style practice putting green. Both the championship and the par 3 course were in immaculate shape and layouts were memorable and challenging. The food at the restaurant was good and so was the service. I would give it 5 stars except for the bunkers. Most had rocks in them left over from when the wind blows all the sand out of the bunkers. Fairways that run forever both good and bad. You have to play this place smart and hit your ball in the right spot or it will roll into one of those sand traps. Played really well considering never been there before. Great staff. One of the best golf experiences I have had. The room was nice and with amazing views, however bring sunscreen for afternoon sun on the decks. Food at Danny Boy was delicious, and each item ordered was really enough for 2 people. Flavor profiles were intricate, very much an elevated American pub experience. The golf courses were perfect. I personally gravitate towards links-esque design as I find it more enjoyable than parkland style golf. Many options from tees to approaches, I loved that teeing areas were essentially the fairway, an almost uninterrupted flow through the property. Conditions were excellent if you like hard fast fairways, and links style putting surfaces (hard, small undulating nuances, grain direction importance). The 14 hole short course is a must, again if you like creativity and just having a good time this is the place. Greens are slow, but the slopes create so much fun and opportunity for good results. The putting green behind the lodge was a phenomenal idea, it was enjoyable to go out in the evening and play the 18 putting holes set up. Make it a destination treat! read more

This is one of the nicest courses I've ever played. Amazing views at every hole. You have to try the golfboards. I'd give the course 5 stars. The hotel was very nice with a great view. I think the fire place fan was a bit noisy, but that's my only complaint. The restaurant / bar could use a little help. The service was excellent and everyone was very nice. We had to wait a long time for the food and we even had to wait for the buffet. The staff was very accommodating and offered us free desserts. I saw one review saying this course is not as challenging as Chambers Bay but, has similarities. My opinion- the only similarity is that they are/were designed to be links style courses. Chambers Bay is WAY over hyped (a bag tag collection course?). Gamble Sands is more for those who love the game. Chambers is geared for those who tend to be more into the clothes, having a tour sized bag with their name on it, photo ops w/ location settings in FaceBook (so everyone can see where they played?), and collecting bag tags to clank around like cowbells. Gamble Sands is for those who love to play golf. Challenging? They held the WA State Mid-Am 2016....I didn't see anyone destroying par. Conversely, plenty of over par scores. Cant wait to see what happens when the elite (State AM or other USGA sanctioned Open events) come play here from the NEW Medal tees. As for yardage and overall difficulty, they've already added, and they are continuing to add new "Medal" tees to take the course to 7,500+ yards. However, unlike Chambers Bay this course is very well thought out and very well designed; not hokey- at Gamble if you hit a good shot, you get good results, if you hit a bad shot you're penalized, and course knowledge just allows for and increases your ability to take some risk/reward and/or funnel shots into certain pin placements. Course knowledge (or lack thereof) does not create a penalizing situation. You can learn and grow with the course, each round can afford different conditions, different shot types (high soft shots, low running, flighted and spinning, etc...) you can play different shots on every hole, depending upon the pin placement and the weather/wind conditions I can not think of one bad hole at Gamble Sands. I liked all of them, they were well designed, well thought, w/ plenty of options on how to play from the tee and the fairway. If you missed the green, there were options. Unlike a course that demands "one" type of shot- Gamble Sands allows for different players with different creativity or different eyes to be able to play the course equally. If you are a single digit handicap or lower, there is plenty here to like and challenge you. If you are a higher handicap, (if you play the proper tees) you will find plenty to like, while still being appropriately challenged I like to think of Gamble Sands having spent $2MM and having done right by/for golfers, for golf in general, and Chambers Bay creating a $26MM USGA approved/sanctioned course that cannot find it's place, can't find a way to maintain green conditions, and didn't do really much to help promote, foster, encourage, properly challenge, or enlighten. After playing Chambers Bay 8-times over 8-years, and after hearing candid comments from the US AM players in 2010, and then again the same type of commentary from players in the US Open.....I am still scratching my head as to how or why Chambers Bay ended up with a US Open? Gamble Sands is the opposite....you don't have to make any excuses, you don't have to talk yourself into liking it, or excuse away the problems with Chambers Bay with "well, you know, they had a US Open.... Gamble Sands is just plain great, the conditioning is great, it's a tremendous amount of fun, it offers plenty of challenge to top-tier players and high handicappers alike (from different tees/angles/approaches)...and, they are adding plenty of yardage and new angles to discover and challenge bombers and low handicappers from the new Medal Tees. Gamble Sands did it right. Super fun, plenty of challenge. I'll fly from AZ to play this course, any day, anytime. You should make the drive from wherever you are to Gamble...way before driving or paying $300 to tee it up at Chambers Bay...unless you're in town to collect a bag tag and say to your friends back home "I played there". I'd rather say- WOW, what an amazing day, that was challenging, fun, rewarding, and brilliant!!! If you prefer the later, I'd suggest Gamble Sands. read more

I thought the course was beautifully designed, but the way they maintaine it is a testimony to American Golf Maintenance Practices Gone Bad. Mow as close as humanly possible. I don't believe the course has the amount of water to sustain itself through the heat of Eastern Washington. Sand based golf courses require constant spoon feeding applications of fertilizer. Let's spray paint the boarder of the Green so you actually know your on it. It is way over priced for the quality of course your getting to play. read more

Do not play in the Spring at this course. Winds are usually constant there with high gusts. You're sure to be sand blasted from the desert and bunkers which are inconsistent because of the wind erosion. And the course is not a good wind course despite what they say. It's very exposed...no trees anywhere. The fairways have very tight lies. They could use some more growing. Greens are little speedy, but fair. The biggest negative is the price! Not worth the $200 to play. We walked, but to get a cart it's $60...highway robbery. This course is a lot of hype. Wine Valley in Walla Walla, and Desert Canyon in Wenatchee are so much more fun and affordable if you want to play in Eastern Washington. Save your $ and play somewhere else. read more

I played Sands for the first time this past Friday and it was a top notch experience from start to finish. Being that it was my first round there I hired a caddie because I wanted to play my best and as a single didn't want to go out alone. I mean, who is going to witness my ace? I didn't get one this time around! Anyways, hiring James to take a walk with me turned out to be one of the best decisions I made that day. I've never had a person caddie for me before so it took a few holes to get used to it but it was great to have someone with the course knowledge and experience that he has. I'm a 16 handicapper and played from the green tees and I shot an 80, best round for me this year by 4 strokes. It was really cool having someone on the bag, giving exact distances, validating my club choices and instilling confidence in me on shots. Before playing here I did my research and read my share of reviews online and the 'Testimonials' on their website here: https://www.gamblesands.com/sands-course/ and one word that stuck out to me over and over was 'fun'. I couldn't agree more, this course was so much fun and gave me shot options that I have never had on any other golf course. After my tee shot with a PW on 4 James threw a ball down and asked me to putt this one. After trying to process what he asked me to do I putt my tee shot to the crest of the hill and it disappeard and then it was time to wait. Moments later I see my pink Callaway Supersoft appear and I leave it 25 feet below the hole. The wind was up and this course played like a true links style course. The other moment that stuck out was 18, I drove to a 9 iron left to the pin but I missed the Eagle putt. However, I made the birdie! Beautiful golf course and views that go on forever. In my opinion (not that it matters) I would suggest that golfers of all skill levels play this course at least once. I'll be honest, after reading all the reviews before I played I would by lying if I said the word overrated didn't ever cross my mind. Gamble Sands Resort - Hole #2 - Golf Near Me - Brewster, Washington

I played it yesterday, a Tuesday morning in summer. Here are my comments: It is remote, but if you're staying in Chelan, it's less than an hour's drive through beautiful Columbia River terrain. Google Maps got a little confused starting at almost the exact spot the Gamble Sands sign appeared, so follow the signs! I had no trouble walking on as a single. The friendly staff encourages walking, so I used one of the provided pull carts. I didn't see any other walkers, but I think it was a better way to appreciate the course. I was definitely tired after 18, though. I bought a yardage book in the clubhouse and it proved very useful. The numerous sprinkler heads on the course also provided ample yardage information. The clubhouse gave me a pin placement key which I lost halfway through my round - don't do that. You will need to know the pin placements because the greens are huge. The fairways are also very generous. I didn't come close to losing a ball. Course conditions are pristine. The greens putt as purely as any I've experienced. The first hole was nicely straightforward - which is a great way to start a round. The second tee looked out over the Columbia and a little bit into the mind of the course architect. Options abound - think it through and execute a golf shot. And so it continued for the whole round. What great fun! The green fees are higher than I normally spend, but I won't hesitate to play Gamble Sands again. The experience makes it a good value. The architect says he wants you to play your best golf here. Think of it like a shorter, easier Chamber's Bay. You've got great views, dry, rolling conditions, and well maintained fairways. On the other hand, it's not nearly as punishing a walk as Chamber's Bay, it's MUCH shorter, and you have a chance to shoot a very low score even if you're a mid to high handicapper. You'll LOVE the views. On the flip side, it's not perfect of course. The greens were very sandy, not totally consistent, and the grass quality was average when you're putting. Also, they didn't have much in terms of amenities on the course (bathrooms, etc), and holes can be hard to find. I really would like to see more signage so people don't hold up play getting lost. I'll definitely go back, just don't go here expecting a major challenge like you'll get at Chamber's Day, etc, because this course is NOT the same. Still a great time. read more

This place is amazing. We were there a week ago today for some R & R in the winter. This is the place to go. The rooms are big and the shower is outstanding. What made this special was the staff along with the view and the quality of EVERYTHING. We already miss it, the snow, the sounds of winter and oh that view! Restaurant is awful. Went there for dinner one night and the server messed up my tip. I put a tip for $7.05 and the server put in a $705 tip and charged me $750 to my debit card. It's been a week later of them avoid calls and not calling back and saying they are going to fix it but not fixing it. We keep calling and the manager somehow always seems to be busy. This is a pretty course that is not a good value as it is promoted and priced as a premier destination. The operational component of the business is lacking. Poor coordination between starter and pro shop. Starter without control of first tee and not informative. Lots of people late for tee times but still allowed to go off in front of others waiting. No info on where restrooms are, water coolers might be, etc. No marshal so groups just join up for large "parties". Limited services on course - particularly water (no refills till hole 6). Lots of guys on course who are very loud and profane and in inconsiderate of other players. The pro shop acknowledges that they encourage men's trips. So it is a bit of a free for all on the course. The entire experience exceeded my expectations! The course was incredible and no wonder it got ranked #2 in Washington! The course will take 5 strokes off your game because the ball will roll forever. The views are absolutely amazing and true to its Links roots. A tip of the cap to the Greens Keeper for keeping the course very well maintained and green! A much better experience than Chambers Bay. The new Inn makes this a perfect Stay and Play destination. The lodge just finished in September and has amazing rooms with incredible views of the Columbia River. Natasha was very friendly, professional, and even gave me a tour of the new Pavilion! Rachel, Jake, and Kyle were the best bar tenders and made my 3 nights very enjoyable! Jennifer did an amazing job outfitting the rooms at the Inn! The level of details from all the Gamble team did not go unnoticed - The eye patches to block the sun until you get shades; the Gamble Sands logo'd cups, Q-Tips, Desk Area, incredible pillows, soft towels, etc. Dave, Luke, and Paul were awesome in the Pro Shop and out on the course! They even stayed after hours to swap stories over a meal and went out of their way to make sure we got the Golf Boards. These are a huge hit and you need more. Shannon and Chris took great care of us in the beverage cart and make golf fun! Danny Boy's is a great place to hang out after a round of golf or a perfect place to bring family and friends for dinner! They feature Gebber's beef, which is amazing! Their burger is outstanding and officially named the Danny Boy Burger! The hand cut fries are cooked to perfection. The team does an excellent job attending to your every detail with fresh drinks from Kyle, Moscow Mules from Rachel, or your favorite tap from Jake! They make you feel part of the family. It is a really fun course and a little difficult if you get in the traps. The ball rolls forever on the fairways and the greens are large and fast. We loved the challenge and shot about what we usually shoot. We will return because it is different from the courses we usually play. Staff was excellent and lunch on the patio was exceptional. One of the unique aspects of Washington is the varied topography and climates between the west and east sides of the Cascades - A 3-hour or so drive east of Seattle lies the tiny farming community of Brewster - Off the beaten track for sure but Brewster also happens to be home to the state's newest, and I would argue best, championship course - Gamble Sands sits perched atop a bluff overlooking the mighty Columbia River - Nearly every hole provides sweeping panoramic vistas, while the golf course itself can hold its own against the finest in the world I played Gamble Sands not too long after it opened in August of 2014 and again the following year - I'll try and be unbiased, but since I love the wide-open golf and sweeping views often associated with courses on the eastern side of the state, I give Gamble Sands 5-stars out of 5! - The location is spectacular, provided of course that postcard views of the Columbia River and North Central Washington are of your liking - The layout is links-style with open fairways and large, often undulating greens - Course conditioning is as good as it gets and the greens roll pure! - Several blind tee shots make it a bit tricky the first time around, and make sure you call ahead to verify driving directions - The weather was perfect each time we played, but the wind can definitely be a factor at times, so be aware - But whatever, just do yourself a favor and play Gamble Sands as soon as you can - It's Washington golf at its finest! read more

The second night had the burger and a caesar salad with creme brûlée for dessert. They knocked it outta the park with these. I could have saved a few strokes if I had taken advantage of the offer for a caddy, as my gps (Bushnell) doesn't yet have the course on it. My wife is a higher handicap player, and she loved that the forward tees were set such that she could enjoy every hole. 94 degree temperature and a five hour round made it a bit of a slog at the end.
