Yesterday was my second trip to this new DMK course (the previous being Opening Day - August 2014). Marked improvements and maturing have occurred over the past 12 months. Let's start with the 4 mile drive to the facility from Hwy 17 - hard surface the entire way now. Fantastic! Pro Shop greeting was just fine though they had me on the tee sheet 10 minutes earlier than the confirmation I got last week. Small detail, but, worth noting if you're running late. First rate driving range and the putting green is accurate to what you will face out on the course. Starter was very helpful and courteous. The course is maturing very well! Fescue fairways and greens. Remember the grass is only 2-3 years old and roots haven't reached their mature depth yet. While the greens were stimping about 7.5 in the morning, they sped up to 8 - 8.5 by the afternoon round - rolled true the entire time. Starter tells me once the grass has matured, we will see a lot of 10+ speeds. Look out! Fairways and bunkers are in great shape - no boggy or dried out areas noted. Straight drives roll out very well and the course does not play as long as the scorecard indicates. Expect a 4:00 - 4:20 pace of play, and, they do a good and friendly job of marshaling along the slower groups - something missing from many of the venues these days. Amenities (read: Pub and Cart Servers) are approaching 100%. I found the food great and served timely. Nice Beer and Spirits selection, too (we didn't sample their wine selection yet). While they have a full Pub Style menu, we opted for steaks after 36 holes of play. Home grown beef by the family that owns the course. I had NY and my buddy had the Rib Eye. Both cooked spot-on and flavorful. I had a Cesar salad and am pleased to report the dressing is the old-fashioned way with just enough garlic to bite your tongue. I suspect my review will improve to 5-Stars the next time I'm up there as the course will have matured more, and, all the little details have been attended to. Pretty Remote - part of the charm, I suppose. Spectacular vistas throughout the entire course. read more

Late in updating. Last visit was great! All cylinders were hit. Seems that customer service is key!! Love the course. The staff rocked it.

Not worth the price they charged , grant it it's a very nice course , that's why I gave it only two stars ... The reason why ? Amenities are really lacking !!! No ATM , very small menu ( better off bringing your own stuff ) for what was charged ... You get nuked food , hot dog or breakfast sandwich ... Cart girl came around only once , the fact this course is in the middle of nowhere they need to change a whole lot less !!!!! Bear mountain is cheaper and more amenities .... The nerve to charge 18$ for a cooling towel ? 15 for a ball marker? But the biggest peeve was the markers and signs to next holes , tiny little sticks with a piece of wood with markings , you blink you'll miss it !!! If all the other issues were addressed it, I would rate 5 read more

Just finished a 2 day golf adventure with the guys, 12 of us. Played a Friday afternoon, spent the night in the lodge and played again Saturday. Lots of blind holes so the 2nd day was better having a clue where to hit the ball and how far. Not a fan of blind holes. Course was good, not in the best of shape for a course that charges $185.00 a round. Should be in much better shape, I know it is a links course but still greens should roll! They were slow, traps had not been raked for a while and there was some pretty rough areas where people had not done a very good job raking, but again for that price they should tune them up every couple days. Lodging was nice, bar was a real let down, very small and nobody there, food was mediocre at best, but you are a long way from town so that's what you get. Really about 2 1/2 stars is my review. For the expense of the golf and the lodging it really needs to be top shelf, not just okay. read more

So my Gamble Sands journey started in a U-Haul Truck, outside Boston, loaded with my daughters stuff. She was relocating to Seattle for work, and I was the truck driver. I planned the trip to have golf break up the drive after 3 days of Driving. My first stop was Sand Valley in WI. As an aside, a must play. The 1st course is Coore Crenshaw and the 2nd is a David McLay Kidd's design. In hindsight, driving a full U-Haul truck here to play golf was probably a mistake, given the mountain passes, remote area and general difficulty of the drive. But I made it. The Course was in great shape, very challenging both to the eye and golfer. I played well and enjoyed what golf I did get to play. When making the reservations, I was asked about taking a caddy. Not knowing the course and seeing the pictures, I jumped at the idea. After checking into the pro shop, being asked if I still wanted the caddy (yes - certainly after discovering that Tim was driving 250 miles from BC to caddy, which he does for long blocks of time), I hit the range, chipped/putted, met Tim and we were off to walk and play. It was 105 degrees, no breeze and smokey from the many fires up in Canada. Tim packed in tons of water and off we went. by the 11th hole, very far out (on a total 6 mile walk) Tim started to kneel, and struggle. by the 14th tee, he was toast, dehydrated and beginning to struggle. The cart girl and I iced him down, put fluids into him and drove him back to the club house. They sent a cart for me. Because o the heat, and while I felt good, the uncertainty of going back out (I ha been driving 500+ miles a day), I went to grab something to drink. So here is my complaint. No one suggested that perhaps the conditions might be too extreme to walk, and we should take a cart. Not the pro shop, the starter or caddy. All know the facility and conditions. No one offered to take me back out to finish the round (though I did not push either). No one from the pro shop came out to ask about my condition. Later, when I went to the pro shop to pick up some stuff, the asst. Pro said, oh you are the one and sort of laughed. When I asked if he could perhaps do something for me, he said it was above his pay grade but would ask. I was not asking for a total refund, but how about offer me a hat or shirt, as this is touted as a resort course. Nothing. People at the bar said they herd my story and wondered if the resort did anything for me. Nope, not a peep. I went to bed and left in the morning to continue my trip. I own my part of this, too bad they did not try to make it up to me, especially since they knew my trip the was a side trip to a cross country one. Just a word about my caddy, Tim. Great guy, learned my game on the range and his advice, often in contrast to what my eyes were telling me, was spot on. He knows the course, the greens and during the walk, a fun guy to chat with. I enjoyed his company and in no means fault him for his condition. Anyone would be lucky to use him. He earned every penny of both his fee and my tip, which I paid as I would if we played the full 18. As for the course, I liked it. You definitely need help with sight lines, speed slots and green reading. It plays shorter than the markers. I played at 6700 yards, and being a 5, might have been able to play back a set. Having only 1 course, and owing to it's very remote and often difficult access to and from (there is nothing out there) I find it hard to choose to come back again, given many of the other excellent choices in the state. As for the comparisons to Chambers, which I played 2 days later, they are different. I thought Gamble was a better overall test of golf, but Chambers from tee up to getting on the greens a fun track. The greens were in bad condition, slow and in many ways their worse feature. The views at Gamble are spectacular. The rooms were amazing over the putting course. I liked the food and the staff were overall great. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit lacking. Lastly, I have played Pebble, Pinehurst, Whistling Straits, Doral, and many other high end golf resorts many times, so my lens of comparison is of a higher standard. read more

Great course, Played 36, $120.00 inc cart for the 1st round, $65.00 for replay fee. Every tee shot was a challenge. Played the Medal Tees 7169 yds. It was a lot of fun. Have to be creative with approach shots, cannot just aim at the flagstick. Greens a little on the slow side but rolled true. Fairways were in great shape, nice to get some roll on a tee shot. Course takes tee times throughout the year, might make it hard to get a time. read more

Three buddies and I just did a 3 day golf trip to Gamble Sands. Drive was beautiful from Seattle, stayed at the Lakeshore Inn, about 10 minutes away. Hotel was great, golf course was exceptional!!! Upon arriving, the staff was super friendly and outgoing (Kelsey). Inside we met Dave, his wife and Luke. All super nice and helpful and everyone seemed excited for us to be there. Warmed up and headed to the first tee and met Nick. Cool kid and all about the service (even had his phone number on the back of the card if we needed anything during the round). Then, onto the course. It was in PERFECT shape from tee to green. I expected the greens to be very new and firm, but they actually received the balls perfectly. The greens rolled true, while not super fast. I'd guess they were about 7-7.5, but smooth. I wish they would have been a little faster, but that will just come with time, I'm sure. They layout was a blast and I'd play it several more days if I could. Our group has done TPC Scottsdale, Pronghorn, Kapalua Plantation, Bandon Dunes and La Quinta in Palm Desert. Sometimes on a 3 day trip on the same course, one can grow tired of the course....but not Gamble Sands. Different each day, gorgeous views, nice blend of holes with risk reward....all in all a great experience. If you're a golfer, you should check it out for sure! read more

Played gamble sands, always have a great time. The reason for not rating higher is because greens had been punched and top dress. Which make them very slow, which the staff told us before we started. When you can not use the slopes. When the green don't hold a shot it plays so different from past rounds. Still a great test and I will be back this summer for another great experience. read more

Absolutely loved the course! Very playable for women which makes the experience so much more fun. Had a small misunderstanding regarding a caddy and the pro bent over backwards to make our experience enjoyable and we felt valued. The food was also fantastic, I highly recommend the halibut and chips. Definitely worth the drive and will be even better once the hotel is complete. read more

Great course and it was in mint condition. Worth every penny even though it was probably the most I've ever spent on golf in this state. Definitely worth the trip. Bring some extra balls because this course isn't forgiving off the fairways. The only complaint I would have is that the sign at the bottom of the hill is the "gamble sands" logo and drove by it by an extra six miles into brewster (note: its hard to read at 60 miles an hour...hope that was the speed limit!). My phone GPS, Onstar, and my Garmin couldn't find this place. Had to stop in and talk to a local for directions. CHANGE THE SIGN gamble sands people! And definetly add a sign on the highway by the truck weigh scale. A little advertising can't hurt. The staff i found to be helpful and courteous which can go a long way in repeat business. I do have to say the little things matter to me i.e.. the washrooms on the course are NICE (ladies take note). The score cards are of premium quality stock paper. The starter at the first hole was friendly and more than happy to give out some local knowledge (thank you starter in the purple shirt) Can't wait to give it another go out there in brewster. read more
