After a recent escape room adventure, my wife and I decided to stop by Gamers Geekery & Tavern to check it out and potentially play a board game. We both really enjoyed our experience! First, it's $10 per group to play as many board games as you want until closing, which isn't a bad deal. They had quite a few games available, and they were helpfully labeled with both suggested player count and board game type (light strategy, heavy strategy, family, etc.). The bar had a decent variety of draft beer options, and there were also numerous canned and bottled beers available. After playing Code Names for a bit, I decided to look at the food menu, and I ended up ordering some chips and assorted dips (guacamole, salsa, and queso) for myself. The server told me that he thought the guacamole was made in-house. I tasted it and I'm not sure that's true, but it was fine :) Overall, we had a good experience here and would definitely come back! read more

We were able to book a table in advance for a large group. They have tons of games and the food was yummy. The games selection had easy family games to complex ones as well for hard core gamers. Prices were reasonable. It got louder as the night progressed. So if you have someone with audio sensory issues come early. We will be back again. read more

Went here for my uncles birthday and have been here before, this time the customer service was awful. First we needed time to look over on what to order then we're ready and had to wait a while for someone to take our order. Which I first thought we had to go to the front counter to order but you don't. When we got our drinks, the blonde lady asked us if we needed straws and we all said yes, she then threw the straws on the table and left. Then when we got our food, she never asked if we needed anything else just walked away. I know they used to sell magic cards but now that they're more restaurant focused then maybe have some experience in customer service. read more

We came here just to eat lunch and sat at the bar. We had some delicious comfort food - I had a BLT on a croissant, my husband had hot dogs and our grandkid had a meatball sub. I also had a delicious porter which really hit the spot. It seems like a very fun place to hang out and play games. Great selection of appetizers, snacks and drinks. I went here with a group of band mates from Triangle Pride Band and we played a card racing game called Heat (available free to play on the shelf). They had a good choice of hard ciders (which are my go to) and food choices were pretty decent. They had sandwiches and flat breads but could use a chicken tender option. Fries would be good too. This place was pretty cool. I would definitely go back soon. The food is ok, bar food, but you go here for the experience and to have a good time playing your favorite games with beer or NA. We played a game from like 5-7, and it started getting packed. I would check their events calendar or reserve, if you have a big party, but the bar packs up, the tables pack up, and everyone is just having fun with their friends. Very unique and fun place. I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere, combined with the factors of everyone being able to play card games together, with delicious chocolate beers and meatball subs available to eat and enjoy...!!! The owner was attentive towards new customers and I was fortunate enough to hang out with them at the bar, while they were supervising the 80%full tables situation and they still took their own time to interact with the customers in the most polite manner possible...!!! What a fun idea and execution! Located upstairs and off the beaten path at MacGregor Shopping center, you kinda forget you're down the hall from insurance agencies and offices. I bar that seats about eight greets you, but you can see over and to the sides that gaming groups are in session. The buzz of voices, the rattle of dice, and the occasional cry of victory or defeat fills the fragrant air. Food options are ok (I had a flatbread pseudo-pizza and a beer), my friend was dying for the cookies (which are mixed on site and baked when you order them, so they are oven-fresh. They were pretty good, too.) The other tables were full on this Tuesday night with various groups ranging from young adults down to high school age. We happened into a couple who were just finishing Potion Explosion, and chatted while we were putting together the cabinet so we could play. What I loved, however, was the shelves of games you can play, organized by type, age level, number of players, etc. They are labeled, and there's a table to return them to, rather than you trying to remember where it goes. Before we saw the couple mentioned, we went through the shelves and pulled out several games we had been talking about and were excited to open them and play. There is a "table fee" to use the games, but there is also a membership that includes this for regulars. After driving over from Durham and tracking down the location, we weren't going to quibble about a fee. A day or two later, I read their website, and I think it's a well-thought-out setup. Drink options were limited, but that's not the reason you'd go here. Grab a few friends who want to game and hop on over. You'll enjoy it, you can get some fresh cookies, and you might find some new friends to boot! read more

A really cool place to sit and play some board games. There's a cover charge of $10 for your group and you just have at it! There's a variety of board games and we've tried multiple of them! They are all in good shape and categorized based on complexity and style of play. You can even buy them if you really like them! The beers are usually various in options and the food options seem... alright. This isn't a charcuterie type of place but they've got these pretzel bites that are very soft and go well with the sauces they come with (although then your hands get greasy and you have to avoid touching the board game for a moment). We spend about $30 every time we come (2 beers, 1 pretzel, and cover charge) so it's not too bad to just sit, relax and enjoy some board games. read more

Better than my neighborhood tavern. A place we can go as a family to eat, game, and have a mommy beverage. It's my new happy place. We spent two hours today and just hung out as a family. My son played games with other kids and we just sat and played a game. Okay let's talk games. They have it all and then some. We played Rummikub, super excited they had it, but I had to google the directions. It's been a long time. I'll preface this by saying there is a five dollar venue fee to play a game here, so just know that! We did not, probably because we were hangry and missed it maybe? Either way, we didn't know. And our waitress didn't tell us, which is a bummer, she didn't really go into how the place works. You also seat yourself, also. We sort of hovered awkwardly by the door for a minute, before I asked because no one said anything to us or greeted us. The atmosphere is 5/5, really nice setup with large tables to play games. Several bookshelves full of games, a huge variety from strategy to kids games all by difficulty level and age. This is a really cool concept, and probably would be super fun with a large group! Food is meh. It's cafe food and nothing special. We felt hungry afterwards, to be honest. Our food all came out at separate times, about ten minutes apart. Eek. It was all like a sandwich that I'd throw together at my house, could take it or leave it. Overpriced in my opinion. When we come back, we won't probably order food - we just would get drinks. You can also order "snacks" which is a nice touch! Which they have a bar! Beer and wine. It would be fun as a date night too! Or maybe just lunch? I don't know, it has solid reviews before ours - but between all of it, I would give it 3.5 stars and that's being generous. Always a bit awkward in some instances. Maybe if they have a players wanted sign to put on table or something to get a more social experience. He spent about 30 minutes teaching us two new board games so we didn't have to read the rules, and checked back on us often to answer any questions we had.
