I recently started following them on Facebook, and love that they post almost daily updates on new vinyl coming into the shop, and will even put a 7 day hold on items they post if you request. Last week was my first time visiting, and although it's not a big shop, they've got it packed, and well organized, offering music sorted out by many different genres, and sub-organized within the genres in alphabetical order. Pricing varies, assuming based on amount of specific items in inventory, rarity, and condition. The staff was friendly, and welcoming, asking if there were specific items I was looking for. Great spot to have in town, but potentially financially dangerous for music lovers out there! Though it was my first time, I'm certain it won't be my last. Give them a like on a Facebook, and stop in to pick up some of your favorites.

Whenever I'm in a new area and find a new store, I ask about other stores in the area. I always ask after I've made my purchase to be respectful. He basically told me there weren't any in the area and the next best store would be his other Hippo record store an hour or so away. Google told me otherwise. There are at least two within a five minute drive that I found and both were incredible. (Buffalo Boogie and Remember When). And both of those stores named each other and Hippo when asked about other stores. Sorry. Pet peeve of mine. I won't return to this store but will happily go to his two competitors.

As I was driving around the College Hill Historic District neighborhood of Greensboro, North…read moreCarolina, while waiting to attend the Triad Squad Yelp Elite Omakase Shushi Dinner at Sushi Republic, I happened to discover this long-standing, "Old School" comic book shop, just a short walk from the UNCG campus. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. Parts Unknown The Comic Book Store in Greensboro, North Carolina is a perfect example. I immediately found a side street parking space and parked my pearl white Lexus there and walked over to the store. It was a pleasant walk and the building where the store was located had an interesting graffiti on the outside, side wall. Inside I was greeted by a friendly and very knowledgeable employee who has also been a good friend of the owner for years. He told me how the owner John Hitchcock had owned and operated this business for over 36 years with around 25 years in this location and how the business originally opened up in Cotton Mill Square in 1989. How Hitchcock had always had a passion for comic books and started collecting them when he was 10. He started selling comic books in a store downtown 37 years ago and this led to his opening his own store. Hitchcock's favorite comic book creator was Alex Toth, an artist who had been well known for his expressive line and masterful storytelling. Hitchcock and him had been friends and collaborated on a book called Dear John: The Alex Toth Doodle Book. He showed me a copy of the book that was being sold there. The store had an inviting atmosphere and as I walked through the store it was like entering another world. The uniqueness of this comic book shop was that it exclusively specializes in comic books and books about comic books. It had in its inventory some rare and expensive ones like The Invincible Iron Man selling for $2,000, a Green Lantern one selling for $1,500, and a Special 25th Anniversary Issue of the Amazing Spiderman selling for $1,200, among other well known and rare ones in excellent condition. College students enjoy visiting the store because it's like a live history museum of comic books and also carries many of the current looked-after ones. And the store brings back happy memories to old timers and makes valuable merchandise accessible to comic book collectors of all ages. I highly recommend it if ever your in the area. To me it was an extraordinary and exhilarating experience.

The building served as a feed-and-seed store, a record store and a used-appliance store. The bookstore opened in 2013, and its extensive renovation preserved the exposed brick walls and the high pressed-tin ceilings. They added hand-carved bookcases. The walls are olive green, and the original windows let in plenty of natural light. The store was named after the scuppernong grape, the North Carolina state fruit. The store's "fox and grape" motif, visible on its signs and literature, is also a nod to Aesop's fables. The bookstore is cozy and welcoming, with areas to lounge and even a seating bar at the front of the store. The bookstore carries new and used books, with a good variety. You will find banned books and many about social justice. The store has stood up to censorship. The genres are clearly marked, and it is easy to browse and shop. They even have staff picks with reviews. I like that North Carolina authors are featured. The store partners with other local businesses. The cafe has coffees, teas, wines and craft beers. They have pastries from Loaf Bakery and Swedebread. The sandwiches are from Jerusalem Market. The specialty teas come from Vida Pour Tea. Service here is welcoming, helpful and low-pressure. They let you browse without following you around so you can take your time and explore. I highly recommend visiting Scuppernogg Books if you are looking for a local business to support or just like visiting old buildings. In the digital age, it is so nice to connect with others and actually browse the shelf to find my next read. I loved the banned books, as I am always curious as to what they don't want me reading.
