Lots of awesome Japanese games here. Unfortunately, the player 1 gun on Lost World did not work well.

Lost Ark Video Games is a video game store slash arcade. While lurking for classic arcade action, I decided to give this place a shot driving from Spartanburg. In the store, there's heaps of retro video games in stock. Anything from the Atari to modern days. SEGA Master System? Uh, yeah. They carry that. I remember that system at daycare. They games are priced a bit higher than I'd be willing to pay, but if it's a game I want and can afford it, then I'd shop here. I saw Crash Bandicoot 2 for the PS1 in its original packaging. That's one of my childhood favorites! The game room is definitely the biggest selling point. $8 gets you access to all the games you want to play, all set to freeplay mode. As far as selection, it's mostly Japanese fighting and rhythm games. There's lots of Street Fighter games (but no Darkstalkers or Marvel vs. Capcom *dah*). My favorite game here is The Lost World: Jurassic Park shooter. I wish they would fix the player 1 gun on it because it wasn't working very good. But the red gun worked just fine. I informed the manager about it and they didn't seem too aware of the issue. :/ Aside from the gun on that game not working, Lost Ark Video Games is definitely worth checking out for some geeky fun or playing competitive games with friends. The review will be updated next visit :)

Selection was good. Prices were very over valued compared to price charting and recent eBay listings. Prices for figures were good though.

I loved Player's Choice. It was the quintessential local video game store. Not a big box chain…read more Just owned and operated by guys who lived in the Triad and shared in the passion of video games and, to a lesser extent, anime and that kind of stuff. Player's Choice was ahead of its time and I'm not sure the City of High Point's population/economy was big nor "advanced" enough to sustain it. I think a store like Player's Choice was better-suited for bigger cities and metropolitan areas with larger gaming communities that had more disposable income. New and rare video games, consoles, and anime weren't cheap! Gaming can be an expensive hobby. I visited this Player's Choice store in High Point multiple times in the late 90s. My mom used to drive me over 30 minutes just to get to the flagship store in Winston-Salem on Robinhood Road: https://www.yelp.com/biz/game-on-winston-salem. However, around the time this location opened, circa 1998, I was old enough to drive. I'd either come here by myself or bring my friends. As high schoolers, we couldn't afford much here, but it was still fun to visit and browse. This location was only five minutes from our house so needless to say, I was very happy it opened. Player's Choice had game rental plans well before services like GameFly. I got some great deals on used anime OVAs on VHS. Even in the late 90s, I could tell this store was struggling. During my visits, business in the store couldn't compare to the business I saw at the Robinhood location. Across the country, video game shops like this have been closing in droves because the demand for physical media isn't what it used to be. The Robinhood store, which eventually changed its name to Game On, officially closed on January 4, 2020. This used to be the Staples shopping center, but Harbor Freight is now the anchor in Staples' old space. And today, a Boost Mobile store is where Player's Choice used to be. Thanks for the memories, Player's Choice of High Point. Gone, but never forgotten.
