Strange place. I stopped by the door and window part of the store on Monday and spoke with Joe. He was very amiable. I told him I wanted closet doors for our ADU. I wanted single panel shaker sliding doors. I gave him the measurements and he said he would call back the next day as he had to talk to the manufacturer. I did not hear from him the next day or Wednesday. I called his line on Wednesday and left a message. He has not returned my call. We still need closet doors so I called Ganahl back on Friday thinking I would talk to someone else. The automatic voice system after a fairly long interlude said to hold and no one picked up. It then hung up on me. I would have been an easy customer. I would order, pay, pick-up, and install myself. It seems like they would be interested in that. Apparently not. I'm redoing my entire gate surrounding my property and I needed over 2,500 sq ft of clear redwood. Mark Morales was the sales representative that assisted me throughout the entire process, and I must say he was a true professional from beginning to end. Stopped by here to shop for picture frames to hang old family photos. The young man working the front of the store was very polite, and pointed me in the right direction. He also helped me find the right nails for picture hanging, and suggested some other accessories, but didn't push when I passed. Friendly atmosphere. Today was my first visit to this store. I have spent at least 2 hours at various Home Depots over the last 2 weeks looking for one straight board to finish a pair of raised panel shutters. Nearly every wide piece of hardwood at HD is warped or cupped. So I decided to try Ganahl. The first board I looked at was perfectly straight. In fact, I didn't even see one bad board. I only glanced at the hardware portion of the store; and from what I can see, this is going to be my new go-to hardware store. read more

I haven't spent a lot of time in Ganahl. They seem to have an excellent tool selection, better than Home Depot at least for quality power tools. I've bought lumber there occasionally as well when I needed something quick. My only real complaint is that they're understaffed. Sometimes it's hard to get people to pick up the phone, both the main number and in the departments. Rather than go to Ganahl yesterday to see if they had what I wanted, I just drove further to Home Depot because I *knew* they had it. Ganahl is more upscale than Home Depot, but sometimes lack of customer service makes the big-box a better choice, at least for me. read more

Called ahead to ask if the carried corrugated roof panels. I asked if they had the typical wavy pattern only or PBR panels as well. I got a curt, "we have both" and was hung up on. No worries. Don't care. But I took time to go down there to look around for nothing. Asked someone if they had said panels to be told no "we don't carry that but check in roofing". My family and I have been going to ganahl lumber since they opened . It's a very clean and well stocked store . The problem is it's always quite a bit more expensive then Loews or Home Depot on just about everything , but closer to where I live. The last straw for me today was when I took my six year old with me to get some stuff and when I walked in there were three employees standing at the paint counter using a lot of f bombs and other words that are not suitable for children to hear. I don't usually write reviews, but the service in this company is so bad, and it came so highly recommended, that I wanted others to know my experience. I was told that this company provides excellent lumber, delivers, has great customer service, and decent pricing. Maybe that was before, but now it is non of those things. First, I am not a small client. I bought over $125,000 worth of lumber in one shot from them. After raising the price on me, even thought it was within the 30 days that they guarantee the price, I still had the misfortune to follow through with the deal, even though it went up by $12,000. The lumber I bought, was at least 20% unusable, due to cracks all the way through the wood. Everything I was warned to watch out for, and the reason why I bought higher priced Ganahl wood, came true: lots of unusable wood. On top of that, it was discovered after the frame was mostly up, that the wood has a major termite infestation!!!! And now, they won't even return my phone calls. It takes days to get in contact with them even for simplest of things, like delivering the next truckload of wood that has already been paid for. Stay away and you will be much happier. read more

Rude customer service representatives who were being condescending when I tried to explain why a tool-that I tried returning-didn't work as expected. The sale associate who sold the item to me initially told me to return it if it didn't meet my expectations. The rep who was handling my return told me that they couldn't accept it since it was used, despite what the sales rep told me initially. When I tried to explain that their colleague said that it was ok for me to try it out and return it, the customer service told me that I should've known better. Wow. Thanks a lot. Into this place..... you have to get used to the procedure to buy plywood but other than that - it beats what HD has going on and the chaos that is their lumber department. I'm so tired of those larger chain stores, that also keep making their own knockoff lower quality versions of products and then no longer stocking the products of companies that actually devote their entire existence to being good at plastic sheeting, or whatever. ANYWAY, I came here twice to get two sheets of plywood. Oh, and some thinner luan. I spent more than I meant to but my project kept expanding. It's harder and harder to find "furniture grade" plywood - or plywood that is not garbage ie clean on both sides without flaws. I got two sheets of the baltic birch. Sadly - it did delaminate in some places (I think along edges that were cut) as well as warping a little (it is the summer) but overall I'm satisfied. The young man who cut my plywood both times was great, on the ball yet laid back, and did it precisely. The people here were pretty friendly, and I'll go out of my way to come back the next time I have a large project and don't want to give the chain store that I live mere blocks away from my money. read more

Ordering windows and doors from them seemed seemingly easy. We do love that they carry higher quality items. However, when they came to deliver the fiberglass double doors, they only sent one delivery guy. We paid $70 for delivery, and I was not told I needed to have someone at home to help unload, and being pregnant, it was not possible for me to help. We waited weeks for the doors to arrive, and they were not willing to pay to have the delivery man wait one hour for my husband to take off work and come home to help. We ultimately found a kind neighbor to help. After waiting months for our windows to come in, the windows arrived and are the wrong size! Through email, the window salesperson stated that our windows need to be 29.5 X 29.5, since our rough opening is 30 X 30. Low and behold, the windows came today and they are 30 X 30, and do not fit our opening. When I look back at the invoice, the window salesperson did not order them correctly and had indeed placed the order for 30 X 30. We cannot hold up the project any longer to wait for new windows, so we are somehow going to try to make them work but we are so disappointed in the careless customer service. If you are a homeowner and not an expert, I'd advise you to stay away from their windows and doors department. As a homeowner, I ultimately trust a company will place the order correctly as ordered, and do not feel it is my duty to catch their mistakes. read more

Went there to get a quotation on my house windows that I'm building, spoke to George, he told me to leave the plans with him and he will contact me when the quotation is ready, never heard from him, went back about one month later, he said were to busy and your windows opening on the plans are incorrect, The following week took my architect where he explained every detail to George, again he said give me couple of weeks, I went back after three weeks cause again did not hear from him, this time while talking to him another rude employee "farts" and stinks up the whole entire area, where George had to open the doors and tell the employee that was not suppose to happen, George prints a new set of plans from my drop box, and says "I'll call you next week" it's been over two months and it hasn't been a week for George's calendar apparently, cause I still did not receive a phone call from him.. I WILL NEVER STEP GROUNDS OF THAT FACILITY read more

By far the worse service l have experienced. Placed an order for a door and found out ONE week later that the door was back ordered and won't be available for at least one month but they already charged my card for the door. Then they tried to charge me cancellation fee for my order!! May be a great company however they need to screen the employees they hire more carefully because their sales people is ruining their company image. read more

This is for the Doors/Windows Department: I would rather chop down a tree and make a door myself than use Gahnal for a new door again. Avoid George above all. The door itself is great - it just took three months to get it because first George ordered the wrong door and then the correct door but the wrong size. He wanted to charge us more money on top of everything to re-order the correct door. We avoided that through sheer force of will but the cost was still much higher than the estimate he gave us. read more

However, we asked George Foertsch, Door & Window Sales, for a single door with internal blind; he had an installer measure the space, and after following up with another visit to check on ordering the door, George has made no follow up for 2 months to this date. Been in there three times and really felt unwelcome. I noticed that each time I went in there, customer services is gone. Went to buys some power tools and wanted to ask about battery life and and if they had extra batteries for purchase. No one could answer. Ended up buying the tools on Amazon for 45%less. So then I wanted a lumber quote. There's plenty of guys walking. Wanted to see the selection of redwood in the back for a fence. No one would would help. Walked up the customer service counter, three guys back there and each one said someone would be right with me........15mins later, I left. Even tired calling a few times and was put on the eternal hold button. Was even disconnected once. Finally got some one and asked for a quote on 4"x6' redwood dog ear planks for fencing. $4.75 for what Home Depot and Lowes and Anawalt sells everyday for under $2.00. I asked why so much and she couldn't tell me and I rechecked 3 times to make sure we were talking about the same thing. Great looking place but as a homeowner on a budget, can't afford this place. Really makes you ask why? Bad customer service, not in stock and over double the cost. I'm willing to spend the extra 20 minutes looking for the right workable lumber a Homes or Lowes than to spend 20mins ignored and pay huge over-double mark-ups. AND NO VETERAN DISCOUNT!! Sergio at Ganahl took apart and fixed a lock for me that 4 hardware stores and 1 locksmith were not able to handle. He is seriously very mechanical. Highly recommend. Plus he refused payment but I was able to sneak him a tip. Though Ganahl is primarily for contractors, I will be coming here first. Wow! Ganahl Lumber in Montrose has some of the highest quality lumber in Southern California that is only matched by their service. I'm not sure if this place is family owned, but it has that feel. The staff is extremely helpful and they work seemlessly as a team. They patiently allowed me to inspect each piece of lumber that I was interested in and cut it to my specification. This is without a doubt the nicest home improvement store I've ever been in. It's such a shame that there isn't one in Hollywood because I'm forced to go to Home Depot several times a week for work. However, when I'm at home and need something I always come here. The store is spotless. Like JPL clean! Every time I come here, employees approach ME to ask if I need help finding something. No more hunting down clueless people in orange aprons. They carry some high end tool brands like festool which you can't find at hd or lowes. I ordered some windows with an estimated 4-6 week lead time. My follow up (calls,emails,visits) to get the status and anticipated delivery date went unanswered. It's the middle of the 7th week and I just got a call that we can expect delivery on the 10th week. My home addition is delayed nearly 4 weeks. Customer service has been poor. I couldn't believe that George was unable to get a status from his manufacture in the 5th and 6th week. His attitude was defensive and unhelpful. This review is for their windows and doors department. I asked for quotes for replacing several interior doors, balcony sliding doors, a large window and front door from Matt. Was told there is a $50 fee for measurement, which I paid. However, it took more than a week to schedule the measurement appointment, then it took almost another two weeks to get the quotes after I sent him several follow up emails. When I finally got the quotes, it did not include quotes for the balcony sliding doors, window and the front door. When I asked him to look into why I was not given the quotes as requested, he did not reply my email. I felt that he did not really want my business. I had high hopes for this store and was hoping to give them my business, but I was very disappointed with my experience here. Will not return. read more

I came here to trim wooden plank. The representative that helped me was so very helpful and ver efficient. It only took him 5 mins to measure the length of the plank and how much to cut, and after the measurement cut the wood with the machine. I was out of the store less than 10 min. They did not charge me anything for the service. They told me if it is less than 4 then it is free of charge. read more
