I ordered some windows with an estimated 4-6 week lead time. My follow up (calls,emails,visits) to get the status and anticipated delivery date went unanswered. It's the middle of the 7th week and I just got a call that we can expect delivery on the 10th week. My home addition is delayed nearly 4 weeks. Customer service has been poor. I couldn't believe that George was unable to get a status from his manufacture in the 5th and 6th week. His attitude was defensive and unhelpful. This review is for their windows and doors department. I asked for quotes for replacing several interior doors, balcony sliding doors, a large window and front door from Matt. Was told there is a $50 fee for measurement, which I paid. However, it took more than a week to schedule the measurement appointment, then it took almost another two weeks to get the quotes after I sent him several follow up emails. When I finally got the quotes, it did not include quotes for the balcony sliding doors, window and the front door. When I asked him to look into why I was not given the quotes as requested, he did not reply my email. I felt that he did not really want my business. I had high hopes for this store and was hoping to give them my business, but I was very disappointed with my experience here. Will not return. read more

I am so glad Ganahl popped up in Pasadena! For such a large city, we've been stuck with OSH, or have to drive out to Monrovia or Alhambra to Home Depot, or way out of the way to Lowe's. I absolutely loathe OSH-- nobody ever knows what they are doing, the selection is meager, and the quality of the items there is atrocious. Home Depot is hit or miss--- employees there rarely know what they're doing. I actually really like Lowe's a lot, but it's such a pain to drive out to Burbank or San Dimas. Ganahl is Pasadena's hardware and lumber savior! The store is spic n' span clean. Everything is tidy, and there is no dust collecting on their merchandise. The store is well organized making everything easy to find. Employees know what they're doing. And, if they're in any doubt, they call over another employee to collaborate. I'd also like to echo Paula S.' comment as a female customer in a male dominated industry. I might not host my own HGTV show, but I do know what I'm doing (...at least, most of the time), and employees treat me with respect. The staff is friendly and employees offer you plenty of attention when you need it, and don't bother you when you don't. The store has a wide selection of high quality products. We've bought countless tools and items here for our many DIY projects. The prices are on par with any of the chain stores, or even Amazon. I'll be shopping at Ganahl as much as I can. I'll only visit one of the giant chain stores if Ganahl doesn't have it. read more

So this place is amazing! I'm always trying out a new DIY and needed to buy some wood for a project, none of the "main" hardware stores have larger pieces of wood and most don't even cut it for you. So I looked up some places around pasadena and found this place thought I would try it out! And I'm SO glad I did! I had called around to a couple other stores around before coming to this one, one said the small size of wood I needed would be $100 I got the piece I needed and cut for $13 here! This store is even cleaner and better organized than OSH and its not like the dusty HD. I suppose its because not many people know about this store yet. Just remember than this is more of a lumber store, so you might not find everything for your home improvement needs, but they do carry some of everything, such as gardening stuff. Employees here seem pretty knowledgeable about the stuff, at least when i went which was about an hour before closing. Bought some lumber for fencing here and they even loaded it into my car. They have a great selection of lumber which was why i came here, better selection than HD at least. Will shop here for future lumber needs. Price wise, the stuff i bought was about the same as HD, give or take a few cents. Some things were actually cheaper here though, such as the box of screws. read more

I was looking a small piece of wood about a foot square and about an inch thick. Home Depot and Orchard only sold large sheet of wood more than I needed. I have driven by the location many times on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena The location has very good lighting and plenty of parking. The store has very good lighting and large signs listing and pointing to the location of the different departments. I asked the salesperson in the lumber section to for a piece of wood to my specifications. In a few minutes I had the wood that I requested and a couple is small pieces that were left over from the full sheet. The whole store is very clean and the staff is very friendly. The store has bricks and plumbing supplies. There is a separate building for windows and doors. read more

Wonderful! These guys were so incredibly kind and helpful. I was working on a very odd project for my students involving bamboo. These guys helped me cut all the bamboo, gave me advice on how to split it, and overall were incredibly kind and helpful. This is way better than home depot on a weekend, super quiet and calm, lots of helpful employees, and a great selection of products. read more

I came here to trim wooden plank. The representative that helped me was so very helpful and ver efficient. It only took him 5 mins to measure the length of the plank and how much to cut, and after the measurement cut the wood with the machine. I was out of the store less than 10 min. They did not charge me anything for the service. They told me if it is less than 4 then it is free of charge. read more

Beyond 5 stars... We haven't had a "real" lumber yard in the SGV in years until Ganahl opened. This place is NOTHING like Home Depot. Employees actually greet you and ask how they can help. Best of all, they know their stuff! if you have a question that they can't answer, they're on the radio and the head of the department is there in seconds and I've yet to "stump" them. Depot? Employees do their best not to even make eye contact, let alone be helpful and should you ask a question about something, they walk up to it and read the box looking for the answer just like you did 10 minutes before you tried to hunt down an employee. That doesn't happen at Ganahl. EVER. The Pasadena store not only has the best tool department in the SGV, but one of the best I've seen anywhere. Top shelf brands like Festool and Stabila too! If you're a tool junkie, avoid the center aisle. I've bought more than my share of both hand and power tools there because I couldn't pass up the deal (on something that I probably didn't need). I actually saw a guy that I recognized from a local tool store there loading a cart with "deals". lol LOVE this place and sincerely appreciate you guys! read more

It's great to have an old school lumber yard close by. Ganahl Lumber has been around Southern California for decades, my Dad used to go one of their yards when he was a boy. They have good priced on lumber and good quality material, not like that other place, (HD). Friendly staff who help you load truck or car. Good election of tools and hardware too. read more

I have been going to home depot because they were 10 minutes from home and get so frustrated with their horrible customer service that I just had to walk out after standing in a line for the pro desk for 20 minutes behind 7 other people waiting for the 1 person behind the desk helping. For finish carpentry this is my first stop. I've built many window frames, trims, and crown mouldings with the wood from here. I've purchased decking, tongue and groove ceilings, headers, stringers, you name it from here as well. They deliver fast, professionally, and are really competent people over all. The lumber sales team know exactly what they're talking about every time I go in. You pay a little more for their stock no doubt BUT it is consistently better then every where else in the area. The tooling department will set you up with any hardware that you need for external and interior woodwork. This really is a one stop shop for carpenters, and homeowners. read more

This review specifically applies to the Windows/Doors department and George. I see old comments on his service and am shocked. My experience today was outstanding. I went in with a front elevation of a large residential remodel we will be doing in a few months. I wanted to learn about windows and doors and the different companies manufacturing them and about quality and designs available. George gave me quite a good course in what to look for and what products are available as well as information on new CA laws and regulations and what to look out for in the design of windows and doors from an energy and safety point of view. I was treated graciously, respectfully (especially considering my very limited knowledge on the subject) and supplied with excellent catalogs pertaining to my needs. I can't believe that anyone received less from George. I commend him and his company for excellence and will return for a bid when our plans are finalized. The information George gave me will definitely prove useful in double checking design prior to submission of plans to our city for approval. read more

This is a more convenient option to the Home Depot in Monrovia. They have most of the same stock but not everything. The lumber desk is great and very helpful. They will cut up your large 4 x 8 plywood so you can get it in the car for free. Good selection of mahogany planks and some veneers. Lots of molding options. This place is so clean, I bet you could eat of the floor and you can't say that about many hardware stores! read more

I've been coming here for many years and have built 4 bars and 2 homes with Ganahl Lumber products. It was sad to see Sergio move to back but also happy hear about his promotion. Most of the the staff is always friendly and helpful (a few people always look like they dont want to be there and bothered at the back counter in the store area). My biggest recommendation is that we change the name from Ganahl Lumber to Jose Lumber. Jose (lumber area) is always a huge pleasure to work with. He always shows sincere interest in my projects and really try's to help in every way. He make great product recommendations and is great at getting you the right amount of material (the guy is great at math). He makes eye contact and greets you as you walk in (I hate when people try to avoid eye contact so that they wont be asked a question). I'm thinking of starting a petition to get this guy a raise or a promotion. He should definitely conduct a customer service training of some sort. Thank you Ganahl for hiring Jose. As someone who has been remodel ling their home for the past 2.5 years, I definitely appreciate a good lumber yard. I had almost given up hope of anything other than the crappy service and Made in China products offered at Home Depot when these guys moved into Pasadena. I can't say enough good things about them! To start with, Ganahl focuses on providing EXCELLENT customer service. Their staff is extremely well-trained and friendly. Everybody from the guy who loads lumber to the checker to the stock person is knowledgeable and will go out of their way to answer questions. The store is probably more geared towards the contractor, but they are quite helpful for the Do-It-Yourself weekend warrior too (of which I qualify). Be advised that they are a bit more expensive than Home Depot, but the quality is 10X higher. I once went through an entire pallet of 2x4's at Home Depot to find a few straight ones. I have never had an issue on any of the wood at Ganahl. Their wood, in particular, is excellent. They also offer a ton of high-quality specialty hardwoods for woodworkers. If you are looking to do a home project, do yourself a favor and at least checkout these guys. You can always go to Home Depot later, but I guarantee that what you get for your money is far superior here. read more

The staff was so helpful...they brought the lumber we needed to the front lanes, cut it the way we had wanted, and loaded it into my husband's truck...we couldn't have asked for more. And prices are comparable to Home Depot, just a tad bit more, but the great service makes up for it! read more

Worst customer service we've ever experienced. Communication was very difficult - we had to initiate all of it. Calls were never returned - OK, maybe once, but that's it. We were left hanging about our order for months. A giant mistake was made with our front door - the salesperson sent the wrong measurements for the mail slot, and the hole was cut to the OUTSIDE measurements of the mail slot. We had to buy a $300 oversized mail slot to cover the hole. We will never do business with them again. This is unfortunate for them as we are planning to build a house next year. We will need EVERYTHING - doors, windows, lumber, hardware - you name it. But we'll be getting all of that from another company. I don't know if our experience is representative of the other sales persons - I hope not - but it was dreadful for us. read more

NOT homeowner friendly! Be very careful when you make any kind of large order. I'm out $1168 because of these guys! They came to my house, because I was putting shingles on the side of the addition to my craftsman home. They told me the product I needed, discussed the job, and then told me how many shingles I needed to complete the job. Because I had painters who were going to paint the shingles in advance to save time and money, I ordered less than they said I needed. SEVEN bundles less! (a bundle is 25 shingles). HUGE MISTAKE! Even though I thought I had fewer shingles needed to complete the job, when the shingles were installed, it turned out that they sold me TWICE what I needed. I have a yard filled with 30 bundles of painted shingles! At $71.49 per bundle, I spent approx $2144 + tax more than I needed to. Customer service is incredibly difficult. They are very nice, and smooth talking, but when it comes time to take accountability, they are hard to get in touch with. I took things up the chain, all the way to corporate, and they never took responsibility. They offered me sympathy for my loss, but shirked accountability by referring to a strict return policy (can't return altered materials...I painted them...but why WOULDN'T I paint them? I should have had less than I needed!) as well as informing me, after the fact, that estimating materials is not their area of expertise. They offered me half my money back on the remaining shingles, which is something, but it was a large order, and so I have essentially flushed $1168 down the toilet! They misled a customer, gave off a false sense of expertise, forced me to write multiple emails to try and recoup a fair amount, and still made the customer take a larger financial hit than them.I WISH I wouldn't have painted those shingles. Based on my multiple emails with Ganahl Lumber, it seems you really need to have a contractor or a sub-contractor to blame and take financial accountability. They are extremely hard pressed to admit fault. The biggest kinda apology I got out of them was that they are sorry that I'm frustrated and that they are gonna work to improve how fast they respond to a customers emails. So there's that.
