Ive been trying to get a quote on a front entry door for over a month. Sales associate asked me to send an email, which I did, that included all the details, photos and key points of the conversation we had in person (after waiting a good 45 minutes in store). When I didnt hear back after 3 weeks, I called and left my contact info. For the rep because I wasnt sure he had gotten my email. Receptionist assured me that she would make sure I got response the following week. Fast forward. After no call or email, I called the store and the original rep. answered the phone. I asked him if he got my email and he said yes, but hadnt had time to follow up. I told him how far behind we were on the planning since we already have a contractor lined up to install. He said he would make some calls that very day and call me back. No call back. No email. Nothing. And that was 3 days ago. Apparently, this person does not under any circumstances want to sell me a door. I had heard great things about this place. Very disappointed. read more

Bought a few 2x8s from them for a project previously and found out they ended up being a bit too wide for what I needed. Called their mill shop as I really needed to get them ripped down that day and the guy said he could do it if I got down there an hour before they close. I get over there as fast as I can and go talk to the front desk to get it setup and paid and come to find out itd be over $100...to rip three 10ft boards... literally would take no longer than 5min to do all three on a table saw. Would've been nice if they informed me how insanely expensive it was going to be before I drove 20min down there but I guess on me for just assuming. Either way, that price is absolutely criminal. I get that they probably have shop minimums or something but man that's just a big f u to your customers having no flexibility. Super disappointing. read more

had a really disappointing experience with a delivery driver named Jesse from GHNAL Lumber. The driver was extremely unprofessional and had a rude, dismissive attitude from the moment they arrived. Instead of being helpful or communicative, they seemed irritated and unwilling to answer basic questions about the delivery. On top of that, the delivery itself felt rushed and careless. Items were not handled with the level of care you'd expect, which is frustrating when you're dealing with materials that aren't cheap. Customer service and professionalism matter, especially in a business like this. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression, and I would seriously hesitate to use GHNAL Lumber again unless they address how their drivers deal with customers. read more

As someone who has been watching woodworking videos online for a long time and just starting to get into the hobby it was a great experience. The people are friendly and helpful, and it helped me feel less intimidated to ask about things. Some stuff to know for beginners like me. First if you're getting wood bring a measuring tape, they have some there too if you need. There is a finished lumber section in the back, lots of S4S lumber of different varieties that you can choose from. Theres a desk in that corner where you tell the people what you want and how to cut it. They give a couple free cuts with each purchase. For the long pieces that are standing up, you can ask for them to cut a piece and put the rest back, but only if the piece you put back is 8ft or longer. The 'B' means they charge by board foot. Its really easy to calculate, they have signs with the calculation, 'L' means they charge by the foot. For sheet goods like plywood, you park your car at a number in the back past the gate. Then you ask someone at one of the counters for what you want. You are also free to walk into the big warehouse outside the building in the back to look around at the sheet goods. You buy the plywood at one of the counters and tell them how you want it cut up. They'll give you a paper after you pay that you take to the booth in the back. You tell them what number you are parked at, then someone will go get the wood, cut it up, and deliver it to your car. Overall I'm really happy with the experience and am looking forward for a chance to go again. I managed to fit two 8.5ft long boards into my suv along with other various goods. It barely fit but now I'm excited to have lots of wood to work with. read more

We ordered a custom wood door with a glass/ironwork insert from Ganahl in Torrance. Isaac Caudillo was the salesman that we worked with to create the order. Isaac was great to work with and helped work out the details of our special order that required coordinating the acquisition of the glass/ironwork insert from a fiberglass door fabricator and having it delivered to the Ganahl shop where the mahogany door was created to surround it. The door arrived in raw wood form as requested by me since I wanted to perform the finishing myself in order to match other wood already used around the home and yard. The door required a slight amount of sanding as it arrived from the Ganahl factory, but was otherwise ready to receive finishing. There was a issue during installation where the factory hadn't followed Isaac's instructions for cutting the hole in the door frame for the handle, which meant the handle set we ordered would not fit and we would not be able to close and lock the door. Isaac jumped on the problem immediately and obtained the needed parts by borrowing them from his display model on the showroom floor. He brought the new hardware to our home within the hour so the installation could be completed. My wife and I absolutely love the end result of our new entryway door. Remodeling, adding addition, building your home is stressful. It requires many, many annoying trips (for me) to hardware stores. I enjoyed It here because its always less people and more organized than Home Depot and Lowe's, especially during the pandemic times, where I want to stay away from crowded places, but unfortunately projects are continued because there is nothing to do doing pandemic times. Lol! Prices are a little higher, depending on what materials you need. They have a huge lumber yard in the back and they have lots of material we were looking for that other stores don't supply. read more

I like supporting local businesses, especially the ones with some history. But my patience is running out. My wife and I have been looking for a quality window replacement for our garage. After calling few places, I was referred to Ganahl. The sales rep was very friendly, and promised the order would take 15 minutes, so come to the store. I went to the store immediately, but the process ended up taking an hour. He said he kept on having computer issues, because their system is very old. Then, he said the window will be ready in two to three weeks max. This was 5/22. Since that point on, I didn't receive any email update or anything about the order. So on 5/30, I called the rep, left a message, just trying to check on the status. But then, nothing. So on 6/2, I sent an email to the rep. Still nothing. Then on 6/6, I finally received a text message, saying he will know the schedule by 6/8. Then, nothing again. I sent another text on 6/12. Still nothing. Then I sent another text on 6/15. Then he finally responded, but saying that the "door" will be ready by 6/27. I had to let him know that I wasn't waiting on the door. He then realized I was the window guy, then said he will update me the next day. Today, 6/16, he is now saying the window will not be ready until 6/29. He is saying there is nothing he can do because it's the factory's fault. To say that this process has been frustrating is an understatement. It feels like they aren't taking my order seriously, and it's been shoved aside this entire time. I've also had smaller issues with Ganahl before, like having a key made that didn't work. That time too, when I brought the key back, they told me that the machine has been malfunctioning. If that was the case, 1) why didn't they warn me it might not work, and 2) why aren't they trying to fix the machine? I'm giving two stars instead of one, because I still want to believe and support the local business. But it's getting difficult. read more

I normally would enjoy coming into this store, however, on this particular day, I came in to replace this pipe. I took one from the shelf and went to ask one of the guys at the counter if this was the correct size and fit for what i needed. I informed him that I just needed this short piece on the end and not the end piece attached. He went on to tell me that it was not the correct piece as what I brought in was one solid piece that did not come apart. I assured him that it did in fact come apart and that was thread tape between the two pieces. He went on to condescendingly tell me that this was a complicated piece to replace, that what i needed was a valve. I assured him that all i needed was this short piece. He kept insisting that it was one piece and again in a condescending tone said "well, I could sell you this piece, but it won't work" I said no thank you, and left the store as well as overhearing him talking about me to his co-workers. I then went to L&B Plumbing and told them what I needed and the gentleman there went to retrieve this piece in the photo ....it was the exact piece I brought to the Ganahl employee and had asked about that insisted would not work and said I needed a valve attempting to mansplain how it worked. After purchasing what I needed from L&B Plumbing, I went home, attached the pipe, installed my new faucet and BAM, no more leak. So thank you Ganahl, if it wasn't for you, I would not have gone to L&B Plumbing where they don't try to mansplain to women who apparently know a little more about plumbing than you. "Mecca" is the word he uses to describe the Ganahl experience. Can't say I'm as thrilled as he is about this place, he's like a kid in a candy store and the smiles on his face are enough to melt me, so here I am. He's fascinated with the options, every size, color and price range. You want a $200 screw driver? They have them. You want exotic Indian Rosewood or Gaboon Ebony wood to panel your game room, they've got it. They've got aisles and aisles of lumber and tools and fixtures and everything to build a modest home or one that could grace the pages of Architectural Digest. The aesthetic here is almost clinical - the place is new yes, but it appears the clean freaks may now call this place home because the store is spic and span. Prices are decent and range from affordable to you'll "likely-need-to-take-a-2nd-on-your-house". Seriously, this place is great if you want to save a few bucks on something and spend a few bucks more to kick the quality up a bit. If you haven't been you really must make a trip here. Kind of disappointed with this place last week. Came in to look for pressure treated wood 2 by 14 (actual 13) by 16, I was glad they have them even though the guy at the exit booth insisted on they don't have them. Ok that's fine, no one knows every inventory, and he was trying to be helpful. But I regret to say the guy at sales desk, Rick, was not that approachable. Physically there is a wide berth between where customer stand and the sales counter, and he insisted on customer not passing that spacing tape/rope one iota, ok then. But when he needed to scan for the items, one had to bring them to him, so that was just awkward. Since it's COVID practice, I totally understood. However, mentally he was putting up wall there too, as if I was buying stuff from a machine, which was weird. Hopefully this is all due to the special time we are having. I've gone to Ganahl a couple of times, and I always liked it there. The waiting game was long, we saw many trucks or vans coming and going, before ours finally got forklifted down. That was almost 40 mins wait! And then we had to find out they are all cracked on multiple places. Then the two best pieces among the few on stock still got defects, but I have to settle with those because we need them right away. In hindsight, should have listened to someone and gone to Learned Lumber instead. read more

We recently decided to upgrade to raised garden beds and so needed a considerable amount of good quality lumber. I was fortunate to be paired with Leo at the Torrance location, and even though it took a couple of different deliveries and a bunch of back and forth emails, he was always tremendously helpful, patient and pleasant to work with. Towards the end when there was a mistake on the part of their Anaheim location, he got boss Alec involved and they both didn't stop until everything was exactly right. While certainly a bit more costly than HD / Lowe's, there's no doubt that we got what we paid for, both in quality and in customer service. read more

I took a friend to here to purchase lumber for his Boy Scouts troop to build tables. Not only did the staff here explain the different types of 2x6's, but how to finish and treat the lumber to ensure longevity while its outside. One of the team members at this location drew up a blueprint on how construct the tables and matching benches. The 2x6's were knot free and warp free, unlike those found at Lowes and Home Depot. My husband and I visited this place on the whim of finding some new windows for our place. We saw this place being built and never thought that it was open to the public. As I was researching for windows, this is one of the places that carries the type of window we were looking for so we adventured in to see the kind of style, feel, etc. I have to say that I really impressed. There wasn't a full pack of people or even service reps, customer helpers or whatever on the floor. Maybe it was the time of day but it gave me a sense of feeling that I could shop around and not feel bombarded by people. When we came around the windows section, we were approached by a manager and it was nice to have some answers. As a follow up, I emailed a person in the window section one day and heard back of an estimate. It didn't compare to the other bids that we got but it was the experience that would make me come back for other things. I have agree with Susan M. Shopping here is like comparing Nordstorms to Kmart. It's different and worth the visit. read more

So Ganahl is a huge lumber company , and this Torrance location is their newest baby. First of all this place is HUGE and it's SO nice!! When I pulled up to their parking lot out front if it weren't for the big Ganahl sign out front I would have thought it was something else and not a lumber yard. And it really isn't just a lumber yard, it's a whole host of stuff (I did not browse around as I was there to look for lumber samples). So I'm doing a T&G for my house (it's a wood ceiling instead of stucco/drywall that you would see in a home). My designer and I agreed that a straight simple wood with little to no knots in the wood would be perfect for my modern house. First I called , I spoke to Raul Soto, and he was super helpful even over the phone to get pricing . A week later I dropped by their location and Raul was with a client/contractor so his mananger Aaron Casteneda help me, Aaron literally showed me all the cedar wood and even cut up some wood samples for me to take home so I can show my builder. When Raul was finished , he sat down with me and we went over pricing, unfortunately I later found out that the joint I was asking about was not what my builder and architect had specified. So I continued the conversation with Raul over email and he was just as attentive, responsive and detailed over emails as he is on the phone and in person. I had defective window screen that I needed to fix. The screen plastic corner had deteriorated from the sun rays. The window company is win dor, which installed all my window 12 years ago, when I called, no one answered and left a message. But they didn't call back till two days later and left a message that they had discontinued that model. But they had recommended dealers on their website and Ganahl Lumber was one. I spoke to Issac, who works in Windows and Doors, he went out of his way and found me the four corners I needed. It was not that big amount of money, but he had found the discontinued corners I needed after trying to contact Win Dor with no answer till another two days later. The best way I can articulate this super lumber yard is simply... Amazing ! This place looks and feels like a Fortune 500 executive building. I literally! I have never seen anything like it before. It's like a lumber yard super mall and they literately have BETTER WOOD STOCK, AND PRICES, than Lowes and Home Depot. In fact, they have all the specialty lumber and sizes that Lowe's, Home Depot, and many lumber yards don't. Moreover, It is a full service lumber yard and they also have a plethora of tools and hardware. The store is immaculate from the outside/IN and you can literally drive your vehicle down the isles and load your lumber as you shop. Lastly, and most importantly, the customer service was second to none from the moment I entered the premises. Miles, the gate guard, was my first point of contact who was kind, courteous, and informative. It only got better when I entered the lobby to pay for my goods. I was kindly greeted by Frank Talavera, who not only gave me the royal treatment but encouraged me to do this Yelp review because I was so impressed with everything and everyone, including Bailey, whom my contact was very limited to but she nevertheless was also kind and courteous . I WILL BE A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE and look forward to buying all my cabinetry lumber and hardware here. Well... First good impression but poor followup. In fact, no follow up. I asked several times for an updated on the Baltic Birch 4x8 clear finish plywood on several occasions and left my phone number so that I could purchase it for my cabinet project. No follow up. I guess I'll be purchasing it from Home Depot. Sorry for the downgrade but you earned it. First it was City Mill in Hawaii when I was growing up, then it was Home Depot/Lowes on the mainland, then OSH and now...Ganahl? I don't know why I like walking around in home improvement/building supplies stores. Maybe it's because the giant stores provide ample walking exercise with a ton of interesting things to look at but zero temptation / impulse to buy. We discovered Ganahl while driving downhill on Del Amo (2642-2676 Del Amo) a couple of weeks ago, and turning our heads with a "what's that?" on the left. It looked like a gigantic lumber yard outside a beautiful building along with behemoth red squares spelling G A N A H L on the roof. Had to google what GANAHL was and found out that this building supply store with a bandsaw logo was grand-opening on Friday. We made the journey to visit on Saturday 8/5, and were surprised at the lack of celebratory deals, fanfare or general excitement. They offered free coffee, but I suspect that's an every day thing. I did not partake in any, so I could not tell you whether it's good or swill. Different rotating specials at the front of the aisles for the month of August was really it. I think they gave away sturdy logo reusable bags but I also think a purchase was necessary. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly - took the time to pause while they made their rounds around the store to see if customers needed anything. Sometimes when you're deeply focused but need help, you don't want to leave the area to scavenger-hunt down an employee. Technically, you can pretend to steal something then you will get more attention than you want pronto. But anyway, one of us is interested in woodworking and Ganahl carries all the tools imaginable to do anything. They carry Benjamin Moore paint swatches of every conceivable color. I also noticed that they carried small kinds of paint from the Netherlands called Hollandlac Tons of door/drawer hardware, everything made by Ryobi and DeWalt, so much wood (though let's take a moment of silence for the forests), so much to learn about. I adore this place. Spacious, well laid out, HUGE, and even someone who's not a pro can easily navigate it. My project: DIY tufted headboard. What I needed: WOOD. lol I shopped out the base of my headboard to be a lightweight MDF board with some 1x4s to frame it out and bulk up the back. We came in with my measurements: MDF board (originally 4ft x 8ft) cut to 30" by 78". I need two 1x4s that are 30" long and two that are 71" long. About 10-15 minutes after placing the order, the 1x4s are brought to the car. The guy who delivered them also brought our cut slip, so we asked about the MDF piece. "Oh, someone else will bring that to you." Okay... we wait. About 20 minutes go by and my husband and I determine that we have been forgotten about. I casually stroll in to the lumbar barn to see if they're cutting the last board. A guy on a forklift drove by to ask if I needed help. I explained that I was just waiting for the other half of my cut order. He drove the forklift back to the cut table to confirm that they forgot and then out to the car to get the cut order and brought it back in. 5 minutes later I had the rest of my order. Finally! Now I can start to work on it! I get everything home and the two 71" long boards are 75". #facepalm WHAT?! I wanted a quick and easy cut so I could just assemble when I got home. It was too late in the day to go back since they were already closed. What cracked me up was that the cut receipt says that they guarantee their cuts to be +/- 1/8th of a inch. LMAO I took the two board back on a different day and they just cut along a line I drew to give me the size I originally asked for. The correction process was easy, but man, the simple cut order ended up being a pain. I'll gladly shop here again, but I'll be sure to double check their measurements before going home. read more
