It was a lovely way to spend an evening. The park is lush and well designed, with lots of green space and flowers in bloom. Its waterfront esplanade is a pretty place for a walk, especially as the sun starts to set over the Manhattan skyline. I wandered up the raised slope at the street side of the park, which provides fantastic views across the East River. The elevated area where the jazz performance took place sits right on the water and made for a special setting to enjoy live music. A lot is packed into this section of the park. There's a large soccer field, public restrooms, water bottle filling stations, and a children's play area with shade and water features. I enjoyed seeing the small sandy beach, and BIP connects directly with Marsha P. Johnson Park, so there's even more to see as you walk and enjoy even waterfront green space. I also appreciated researching the site's transformation from an industrial area into a public park with restored natural features. It feels like a space that is actively working to improve and serve the neighborhood, and is well worth a visit. Let's hope monster development projects don't stop the park's promise from expanding even further.

I learned that this waterfront space was once the site of a radio tower. Because it was early morning, the park was quiet and empty. A few people were walking their dogs on the pier, which overlooks the Manhattan skyline. What caught my eye even more than the city waking up, however, was the large mural against a red brick wall. It shows a woman lying down, plucking dandelion petals. It was whimsical, especially once I noticed the frog beside her. I appreciated discovering this small pocket of the city and enjoyed the moment of peace before my day kicked into high gear.

It's a small strip of land with mostly concrete, some bench seating, and trees. We are really stretching the word "park" with this one. Today, I noticed there was a statue of General Jose Artigas that is the centerpiece of this "park." According to a quick google search, he is regarded as a national hero in Uruguay and the father of Uruguayan nationhood. Why does his statue stand here? I have absolutely no idea, but similar to Napoleon and Alexander the Great, it looks like he was a soldier who led from the front and I have so much respect for that. I remember there was a dome too (I guess they called it The Lab??) where you could go inside and look up at the ceiling and lie down and it was really cool too. Daytime, outdoor, lots of people but not too crowded. I thought organizers did a great job with it and venue here at Randall's Island Park was great. You're close to NYC but at the same time it's a separate space.

Nice area for both locals and tourists to take a walk and enjoy the views.
