DOPPELBOCK 'N ROLL This suburban brewery taps a solid, headbanging beer. I've always felt that a cold draft hits differently than a can or bottle. When the mood strikes me, I'll venture over to Garage Band Brewing on Des Plaines St in downtown Plainfield, next door to Station One Smokehouse (with whom they share a symbiotic relationship)​. Their brews have hard rock-inspired names, like 'Stout It Out Loud' (a play on the KISS song), 'Hop Shaped Box' (Alice in Chains), and 'Hybrid Th30ry' (a 30 IBU pale ale with a nod to Linkin Park). Last time here, I got 12oz of the 'Don't Harsh My Mellow' for $6. I dig the packaging wrap on their 16oz cans of Dizzy Up the Blonde; a Marilyn Monroe-esque lady sitting on a 55gal drum, suggestively tugging on her red high heel with one hand and holding a chalice of beer in the other. What's not to like there? They have a trio of pinball tables that get sporadically rotated out. Previously they had Foo Fighters and Star Wars, now they've got Stranger Things, JAWS, and a gorgeous Godzilla premium model​ at $1 per play. There's a digital jukebox too, if you wanna pick tunes for the venue. * TL;DR * I lack the time and expertise to brew my own beer, so I'm happy to leave it to the pros. Garage Band is a small operation with big dreams, and they already have a handful of solid brews in circulation. I check back every few months to see their new seasonal drafts, like a shandy in the summer and darker Oktoberfest-style beer in the fall. They're closed Mon-Tues. Beer and pinball are significant passions of mine, and since Garage Band has a nice selection of both, they get an easy 5*. read more

We found them via a recommendation online and had never been there before so we didn't really know what to expect. After spending time looking for fun things in Plainfield, I conclude it doesn't get much funner than winos and beer. Garage Band Brewing is a fun casual hangout. It has much more going on than just suds. Fun events like actual garage bands showing up and playing, or just noodling on guitars. There's not any food menu but people go to the barbecue place. For a small brewery they have variety in their beers. It's not like it's variations of all IPAs. The last time here the girl and I had some beer and snacks. It was hard to go wrong because we liked them all. The one I liked the most was the Comeback Kid. It's $7 for a pint and it's a fruited sour ale. This certain has quite a tang. It only has a few snacks in the way of actual food. They sell the locally made Pretzel Crack pretzels. It's $5 for a bag. The Dill Pickle is deliciously herby and salty. Good beer, which is the most important thing about a brewery. It gets a crowd, maybe because there's not much else to do around here. The brewery is located next to Station One Smokehouse so if you're into that you can bring food here from over there. read more

The vibes here are really great. They have a wide drink selection from beers, ciders and cocktails. They have live music and some games as well. They are also dog friendly, inside the brewery and outside as well. Bartender was attentive, kind and made good cocktails. Absolutley will return- they play Chicago sports team as well. read more

I finally had an opportunity to visit this place after having it on my bucket list for quite some time. If you come here in the summer, expect parking to be a challenge. The staff here is warm and welcoming, they got such a warm, cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. There's plenty of games, activities and even a pinball machine too. They welcome outside good too, more so only from the establishment next door since no food is sold here. Prices are fair as well. read more

Great brewery in the heart of downtown Plainfield. I came with a couple of friends and we stayed longer than we expected here. Great vibes and even better beer is what I loved Garage Band. Been awhile since I was here. Everything has changed.Beer is great, service is great . Place has been figured out. They have a bunch of screens playing classic rock videos. Growlers are available to go. They still allow outside food to come in. Place was busy on a weekday afternoon a few days after Christmas. Went next door to Station one first for some BBQ. Then came here to see how they are doing. Really enjoyed the Velvet Octane a coffee milk stout beer, brewed with local Guatemalan coffee. Smoothed out with Nitrous oxide ( Nitro), I think being a milk stout contributed to its smooth mellowness. Fantastic!! Had a couple of these, Ashley served us and was great. Smiling, laughing and managed to wait on the whole place and keep all these people smiling. Excellent bartender! I also enjoyed, the Irish red ale. Very smooth with a pleasant finish. The wife enjoyed the Nor'easter a tasty New England IPA. Had a great time. Enjoyed it. Figured they would get a lot better. Just didn't plan for it to be so long between visits. Excellent beer, great bartender, good music, nice vibe. Slightly an older crowd, but told thats not always how it is , but enjoyed it. read more

Another solid looking Brewery this place in Plainfield this time this is off the downtown and while there was no GarageBand playing when I visited they does appear that they have a stage and live music the bear was much better than anything you will find it dive bars which serve Bud Light and in this day of age you don't want to eat drink Bud Light and the beer here was far superior and there is a nice restaurant you can walk right next door and bring food in and I think there's somehow connected read more

Quality spot right in the heart of Plainfield, seemed to be the main hangout place actually, thank God we got there right when it opened on a Saturday, since all the seats seemed to be filled within like half an hour. I can see why though, a nice mixture of most styles of craft beer, even one mixed with hemp. I enjoyed all the ones I had, mainly IPA, and then also the marzen. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, do outdoor if you can and the weather is nice. They don't serve food, but there's a nice BBQ place next door you can order from, or just bring food from somewhere else. The big vats for brewing are right there behind the bar in the open so that was cool to see. I live pretty far from here so I don't know if I'll be back, but I'm glad I at least made one trip down here. read more

People are nice, but very disappointed in the fact I was not allowed to get my beer served in glass. They poured our beers in a plastic cup all night. Beer was tasty, but as a big beer drinker, drinking out of plastic was a major red flag. The excuse was due to an "event" and "people breaking glass" but how could you run a brewery serving quality beer in plastic cups all night??? First time seeing that. read more

Good selection of beers. Indoor outdoor options ,plenty of room with bands on weekends. Was there on May 27. I am willing to give servers a very wide berth during these times but these. beer tenders may want to snap out if it. Efficient at best but you can't just take orders on beers you are not sure of and place them on the bar with expectations that one knows what they are getting. A simple 'here's the IPA' would really help. It was busy, maybe they were new, maybe new technology. Customer interaction with a smile goes a long way. read more

Echoing a few other reviews in saying that this is a pretty average brewery and there's more potential to this brewery. We sat at the bar and had really attentive, good service, though they were only open less than 2 weeks when we went in, so I wouldn't have expected anything less. The beer was good, not great. The music did not match the theme of the brewery and the vibe was typically suburban. Of course the location is killer, and I can see this brewery really being awesome, but they need to tweak a few things as they continue to grow. Would we return? The space is nice. The beer, trying to be nice here, was underwhelming. Hurts to say anything negative about brewers, but no bueno. We went on opening day and even as beer nerds, I didn't have the highest expectations because it's an increasingly difficult space to stand out. The two beers we had were what I would expect to come out of a plastic Mr Beer. The man trap ID check and chit system were a bit obnoxious, hopefully those smooth out with time. 4 Stars bc they don't have an IPA. Unlike Metal Monkey they didn't commit to one style of music yet still I corporates it into their theme. All beers have lyrical names. The staff are friendly and it's new-May 2019 a patio out in front but the setting sun hits you in the face. read more

This is a really cool spot! We went here one evening when they had a live band playing, and it was awesome! The beer is pretty solid, and they have a pretty good size tap list, so I think you can find something there for everyone. They're also conveniently located in downtown Plainfield (and share a wall with a bbq joint), so grab some food and settle in for a fun time. read more

Great place among many in Plainfield but these guys stand out. Sitting for a Friday afternoon beer and the owners, Craig and Chris sat down behind us. Just got done brewing a new beer and sat done to enjoy some of their earlier fruits of their labors. A good story and great beer. We stumbled upon this place after leaving Werk Force because it was way crowded, and boy did we luck out. We got there before the rush on the first day of indoor dining, and there were only a few people there. The service was really friendly and attentive and the beer was excellent. We tried Fell on Black Days (Russian imperial stout), Brown Eyed Girl (brown ale), and Sublime (key lime gose). All three were fantastic. Brown Eyed Girl was probably the best brown ale I've ever had. The space is clean and comfy, with screens playing 90s alternative, grunge, and nu metal music videos. There is a mural with their logo, exposed tanks, enclosed fireplaces in the wall, and other nice decor. The ladies restroom was beautiful, with decorative mirrors, modern sinks, a chandelier, music piped in, etc... felt a little Alice in Wonderland, and I loved it. My only complaint is the lack of food. Your choice is jerky or pretzels, and that's it. I'm also not so sure about their covid protocols. The amount of tables they were seating at definitely appeared to be way over 25%, I don't think all the tables are more than 6 feet apart, and they seemed just a tad lax about masks. Nothing I saw at the time made me feel like they we being overly reckless but if it's something you're concerned about, this may or may not be the place for you. read more

This place has some goood brews. It is spacious, has bags//other games, outdoor seating. AND it's next to a great BBQ place.

Solid addition to dt Plainfield, but kinda boring... This place has a lot of potential with a cool location and outdoor area, but it just needs more. A stick on Marshall amp decal doesn't cut it for the garage band theme. Throw some guitars on the wall... Maybe a stage for actual bands. Also, if you're going to call yourself garage band brewing, give us some garage band music. Rod Stewart's, "Do you think I'm sexy" on the speakers is ruining the vibe. Visited this awesome brewery last night while in town on business. Definitely headed back each time I am in town. This is one of the most modern micro breweries with the best options on beers.
