Because of that experience, when we recently had a horrible leak that required us to replace our entire kitchen island, pantry, and flooring, along with a few upgrades I had been wanting to do, James was one of the first people I reached out to. His wife was incredibly nice, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. James came out the following Saturday, took measurements, and spent time discussing the repairs and upgrades I wanted done. Then--nothing. I was completely ghosted. If he was too busy to take on the project, I would have completely understood. If the project was too small or simply wasn't something he wanted to take on, that's okay too. But after being a returning customer and taking the time to have him come out, measure everything, and discuss the project, I feel like I at least deserved the courtesy of a response. I called James directly and left a voicemail with no response. His wife had also confirmed my email address before he came out, so there were multiple ways to simply let me know they weren't interested or available. It's really unfortunate because I reached back out specifically because of the great experience we had with James 8 years ago. I would have happily continued recommending So Cal Woodwork to family and friends. Unfortunately, after being treated this way as a returning customer, I can no longer recommend them. The layout continually had to be adjusted due to poor measurement application. Even after the plan was complete, several cabinets were incorrectly made and significant workarounds implemented. We like the look of our wood plank tile, but it will never been sound. Several loose tiles have been replaced and more is needed. I don't think it will ever be 100%. Getting tiles replaced is like pulling teeth, uncomfortable and painful.

A long overdue review for CustomBuilt-Ins…read more We can't thank Doug and Eric enough for everything they did for us. We had a water leak in our kitchen Memorial Day of 2025. Repipe complete, then the builder came in. The project was to replace the island, lower cabinets of one wall, and repaint the kitchen. They took our check and started. Then virtually no progress in June, July, August, September, and October. I eventually drove to their shop to get my cabinets as they were unable to return them. We reached out to Doug at the beginning of November and he said they could help us out. They custom built and installed our island. They rebuilt our custom kitchen cabinets, and finished the kitchen painting. We were asking them to come in and finish a project that they had no history or familiarity with what we wanted, right before Thanksgiving. Doug and Eric spent time talking and working with us so we were all on the same page. Schedules made, notification messages of arrivals, and we always had a clear understanding of what will be done each day.
