When I started off in the construction industry, food trucks were really limited to "ROACH COACHES"... there was no colorful wraps or flavorful, decent food. Food was typically limited to cans of soda and extremely greasy, nasty food. But when our country fell into the 2008 Great Recession, tons of talented chefs (and other restaurant staff) were out of work... Food trucks were a solution to make ends meet by having a small investment and little overhead as compared to that of maintaining a brick-and-mortar place of business. The food truck craze blew-up with social media and affordable eats.... But time went on and "I" got sick of food trucks... too many organized food truck rallies, many trucks parked at a dirt lot during the early days of Wynwood Art Walk, on every corner... most of them offering less impressive food and the prices rose to ridiculous levels... when I started to see the upscale food trucks like sushi with costs higher than full service restaurants, come on... All that is why I never bothered to try Garbo's Grill.... until recently. Okay, it's a food truck... BUT it's permanently based in the back area of "Hanks Hair Of The Dog Saloon". Nice to find a food truck that isn't parked on a dirty, rock empty lot... naw, it's done right. Paver deck surrounded by lush landscaping with plenty of tables and numerous shade sails; many of which are positioned to watch live entertainment on the Saloon's outdoor stage. There is a building that was probably once a home which is where the bar is located inside. And then there's the actually Garbo's food truck.... pretty sure its a classy Airstream; a nice neon light with their name to welcome you to the right spot. Some t-shirt racks to buy their shirts because after all, it's still the tourist part of Key West. The menu board is simple and limited (like most food trucks). They offer a Miane Lobster Roll and a Umami Burger and some couple different hot dogs (Kogi Dog or Mango Dog)... I saw one that someone ordered and wow, it's loaded.... so much to the point that I couldn't even notice the bun or hot-dog under all the toppings. But the main attraction if the tacos.... and they all can be offered as burritos too. They have Cayo Fish Tacos... I do love fish tacos but I ended up ordering KOREAN BBQ TACOS and my wife got their YUM YUM SHRIMP TACOS. Back again a year later and this time tried the lobster roll - absolutely delicious and fresh, not too heavy on the Mayo (which is perfect) and the roll was soft and light. Came with Zapp's chips (yum!). I came for the umami burger cause I heard such good things and was craving a burger. I got cheddar on mine, maybe that was wear I went wrong. The flavor of the burger was ok, but it was cooked pretty well done, and was in desperate need of some sort of sauce! I think it would benefit from an aioli, or an onion jam, it needed something. My boyfriend's friends and I went to stop by Garbos' after a day of snorkeling. We were really hungry afterwards so it was nice having a hearty meal after a day of fun. I got their Umami burger and it was alright. It was a yummy burger but nothing stood out to me. My boyfriend got the Korean BBQ burrito. He really enjoyed it! My boyfriend's friends got the happy hour deal and they each got three tacos. I would go back to try their happy hour deal! The one thing I recommend from Garbos' is their key lime pie! It's very good. I'm not the biggest fan of key lime pies because most pies have an overwhelming taste of lime and sugar. It has a good balance of lime and sweetness. I'm not sure if there's indoor seating because we sat outside and a majority of the tables are outside. It was very relaxing to sit outside under a canopy. Excellent place for lunch, it operates as a food truck but is connected to an adjacent bar. If you are touring the Truman house this place would be very convenient to stop by and grab a bite. You go to the food truck and place your order drink orders have to be placed on the bar even for non alcoholic drinks. My son absolutely loved his bulgolgi tacos, they had great flavor marinaded well. The shrimp tacos were great loved the slaw and sauce they used, they use very large shrimp. The cayo bowl was great the fish they use tasted like Mahi Mahi which seems to be the default fish in key west. If you come later in the day will be treated to a live music performance. read more
