Boyfriend and I went for an early valentines dinner and were helped immediately and service was great. The ladies that helped us were really kind and aren't the reason I gave 1 star. Chips and salsa were fine but not great. We ordered two appetizers, the Mexican fries and the taquitos. Mexican fries were also just fine, nothing special and pretty much just cheese on fries and nothing more. The taquitos were dry but otherwise ok. The real disappointment comes with the entrees. I got the burrito grande with chicken and the chicken tasted frozen from a bag. My boyfriend got the chilaquiles and they were probably the most disappointing by far and we ended up sending them back and getting them taken off the bill. The overly sweet sauce tasted like it came straight from a can and put in the microwave, the tortilla chips were strips which made it awkward to eat, and the egg wasn't cooked all the way. These are all things that should not be on chilaquiles. Overall, everything tastes like it was cooked yesterday and will never be coming back and we're very disappointed. I've been driving by the Burrito Grande fairly regularly since it opened several years ago and always thought I'd like to try it and finally did. Went there on a Saturday evening around 6 pm and it was somewhat busy but there was no wait. We were greeted by a friendly employee very quickly as we walked in and asked if we desired a booth or table and we chose table and were seated immediately. The menu looked good and the prices were pretty average. We were quickly brought chips and salsa and water. The salsa was interesting as we were each given a separate cup of salsa then there was a small cup of hot sauce so you could add the amount of heat you liked to your salsa. I thought that was smart. I ordered the beef Taco Salad which comes in a crispy shell bowl. My wife ordered the fajita with the beef. We were both very happy with our meal. The fajita comes with only one, but quite large, tortilla, so my wife tore off portions of it as there was a ample amount of beef and other fillings. When my wife asked for a second tortilla as we were boxing up the remainder to take home one was brought soon and no extra charge. The taco salad I had was probably one of the most flavorful that I have ever had, and I like taco salads so have them fairly often. So why four stars instead of five? The main reason was that when I looked above our table at the ceiling fan I honestly wondered if some of the abundance of dust on it might not be falling into our food. Those fans have not been cleaned off in a very long time. Also other high surfaces were pretty dusty. This made us wonder how clean the kitchen or other parts of the restaurant might be. The physical things we could see, such as the table and floors and so on appeared okay. The restroom appeared fine, though I didn't do a close inspection. Also, our server would rate about a 3.5 out of 5. A nice smile and friendly when interacting, but not what you'd call very attentive. The tasty food will bring us back at least once more, but I would hope someone cleans those high surfaces and fans before then. read more

Overall, all the flavors I had were super yummy. I only didn't give it 5 stars because the execution was a tiny lacking. For instance, the tortilla was very tough to chew. I'm not sure if it was a little undercooked or what. But it was a little leathery. I got the Chile verde smothered burrito and asked for carnitas and carne asada inside it (fully willing to pay for the extra meat) but they just gave me carne asada, so that was another reason I did 4 instead of 5 stars. However, the flavor of everything was spot on. Sooooo delicious. Husband got the chicken fajitas, and said other than the fact that he wished it had a tad higher ratio of chicken, again, the flavor was just so good. It had this limey type taste which was awesome. Burrito Grande, located in the Salt Lake City suburb of Roy, UT, is a fine restaurant serving delicious Mexican cuisine with a Texas twist... and the fine food dished out by this restaurant could be described as "Tex Mex." Whatever label you put on this amazing restaurant, I think all can agree the amazing food this restaurant serves can best be described as "muy sabroso..." As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the spacious dining room and the comfortable seating. During these COVID-19 virus days, the furniture has been rearranged to allow for "social distancing." Yes, that even applies in Utah... The dining room is clean, spacious, and lit "just right" to set the mood for fine dining. Traditional "banda" Mexican music was softly playing in the background to add to the charming atmosphere. There were a few costumed skeletons in place, as the restaurant seemed to be gearing up for the upcoming "Dia de los Muertos" celebration, at the end of the month. The menu is extensive - six pages total - and features all of your Mexican favorites. There were four us in tonight's group, and we all ordered "Combination Plates" from the same page of the menu. As soon as we were seated, we received a bowl of fresh, in-house made tortilla chips, along with three small bowls of salsa verde, and two small cups of very spicy red salsa. The four of us made short work of the chips and salsa, and our friendly server brought another order of chips and salsa to our table, on the house! We absolutely LOVED the chips, which were hot, crispy and fresh, and the salsa verde was simply out-of-the-world delicious! It was chunky, with rich, thick salsa verde sauce, with diced green, yellow and red chili pepper, along with diced white onion, which added to the wonderful taste, and made a spectacular presentation. Robert chose #D14, "Chorizo," from the "Dinner" menu. The menu describes his dinner as, "It doesn't get any more Mexican than with this dish. Homemade fat free Spanish sausage is scrambled with eggs and pico de gallo (onion, tomato, cilantro,) all mixed together. This combo is great for breakfast or dinner. Pick your choice of flour or corn tortillas." Actually, there is a HUGE difference between Spanish and Mexican chorizo, but both variations of chorizo are based on the Spanish version. Robert's dinner definitely featured the Mexican version of chorizo, ad it's spicier and runnier than the Spanish version. The chorizo was mixed with eggs, and topped with lots of brick-red chorizo sauce, with shredded Mexican cheese on top. Like the other dishes our group enjoyed, his refried beans arrived with grated, melted Mexican cheese on top, and he enjoyed a side of the amazing rice that Burrito Grande is famous for. Both Steve and Chris ordered D#13 from the "Dinner" menu, "Las Comadres," (Two Enchiladas,) which the menu describes as, "You get your choice of chicken, shredded beef or cheese." Steve went with one chicken and one beef enchilada, while Chris went with two beef enchiladas. From the outside, both of their dinners looked identical. My friends loved their dinners! The enchiladas were stuffed with seasoned, mildly spicy meat, which was moist and tender, and baked to perfection. Each enchilada was drizzled with Mexican cheese, and topped with shredded lettuce and graded Mexican cheese. The amazing rice and beans were identical in all four of our dinners. From the "Dinner" section of the menu, I ordered #D16, also known as Don Carlos Carne Asada (Long Steak Strips.) The menu describes this amazing dinner as, "Chopped carne asada (steak) cooked over the grill with a side of guacamole with lettuce, and pico de gallo (onion, tomato and cilantro.) Pick your choice of flour or corn tortillas." All combination plates on the dinner menu include Mexican rice and refried beans. The "star" of my dinner was the huge helping of marinated carne asada (Mexican steak strips) grilled to perfection. The steak was tender, most and flavorful, with a very "earthy," robust taste and not at all spicy. Perfect! The scoop of guacamole was creamy, smooth, but had just the right amount of "chunk" to it that I love, as it had finely diced pepper and onion. The refried beans were creamy and smooth, and you could tell they were cooked in lard, the way refried beans are cooked in Mexico, by the "earthy taste." The beans arrived sprinkled with melted Mexican cheese, which added a nice touch. My rice was cooked Mexican style, I'm assuming in chicken broth, as there was a slightly "meaty" taste to the rice, which makes the rice an amazing side. Like the guacamole, the onion, tomato and cilantro was made from fresh ingredients, which added to the taste sensation of this amazing dinner. The cool pico de gallo and the chilled guacamole complimented the carne asada, rice and beans, and made for the perfect side dish. Such an amazing Mexican restaurant! read more

Prices are reasonable. They have increased as has every food service there is. Breakfast through full dinners. The food was fine. When they brought me my check it was wrong. Ordered a cheese enchilada plate and a beef enchilada plate. They brought out just cheese for both orders which they are 9.95 each on the menu. My bill total was 34.98 (included one drink) I told them it was wrong and they fought with me and said because one order had extra beans instead of rice they up charge for that, if was a regular customer I would know that. I asked if a side of beans cost $10 and she said no... so the math doesn't make sense. Would not even budge on what they were charging and told me because i questioned it i was not welcome anymore. Paid my bill and left and gladly will not ever return. Horrible service, would not even try to listen. Price issues to start it all off. Went online to their site & it says that it's lunch specials are $5.75. I order L4 the 2 cheese enchiladas w rice & beans on flour tortillas. I go to pay & see that it's $6.25 + tax. I asked why was it says something different than advertised & she replies I don't know. It just is & the manager is too busy. I told her then find someone I can talk to. This young man grabs a menu off a table brings it to me & says to me see this is the price $6.25 for the lunch special. I explained that his website says different & he says well the prices are different cuz they have increased the price. I said ok that's fine I guess? Leaving & I go thru the drive thru and kid u not there is a big sign that says lunch specials $5.75. OMG so I call him on the phone as I'm leaving & asked if he could explain to me how come there is another place I have found the price & it's in their damn drive thru. He s explained that further around the drive thru it has another sign with the correct prices. WTF SO the drive thru & the website show $5.75 & the table & the drive thru ( further up) say $6.25. This young man tells me that he has NEVER had a person complain to him about such a thing. Then says his regulars would never do such a thing cuz they know what a deal they are getting. He says that he has given me a good deal & now I dare complain about the prices to him. Explained that it's all the confusion in the prices & that I haven't eaten it yet to know if I got a good deal or not. Asked well if u went to buy a TV & it says $599 but u get to register & they are charging you $625 would you say something? He replied NO I'm not that kind of person & I don't know anyone who is or would say anything. Is he crazy? He never would say sorry I told him that the more he talked around the matter with me that he was making his review I was going to make even worse. This kid just thought that I was crazy for pointing out all the inconsistencies in the actual price of the lunch menu. The food.... 1ST THE SIZE. Wow Soo small. I haven't even seen a kids portion be that small. Seriously for real. 2nd The taste... YUCK a good deal not at all it was weird cheese color sauce & it tasted like it was BLAND & DULL Rice plain Beans was good Flour tortillas had to be very small not at all what I'm used to getting in the size. The red sauce was just not good, no seasoning and a dull bland flavor over all. Just small and gross and high for the $price$ of 2 tiny enchiladas and a scoop of rice and beans. It's hard to find good Mexican food in Utah, especially up North. We stopped in last night for dinner and the service was excellent. They fulfilled all of our requests and were friendly. The food came out piping hot. Not just a few, but all 5 plates and that is hard to come by in my experience. Everyone enjoyed their food. I got the carne asada plate and my only complaint is that I got one giant tortilla instead of small taco sized ones, but tasted really fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back soon. read more

Been going here for years! They have the best green salsa I've ever had anywhere! Their red paste "salsa" is pretty amazing too. You can buy the green salsa and take it home, although it is extremely expensive. I'd buy it far more often if it was cheaper (hint hint Burrito Grande!). I've been living here 2 years now and pass this place all the time. My neighbor and I decided to give this place a try tonight. Place was very cute and clean on the inside. We were brought a basket of chips and I'm not sure if it was salsa. It was a lot of chopped onions and green. Actually it wasn't bad tasting. I had a chicken burrito and my neighbor had nachos. If I wanted sauce on burrito it was an extra charge. Sauce looked and tasted like tomato soup. Glad I ordered it on the side. It was terrible. The chicken in my burrito was big chunks of white meat...that was fine . But the tortilla it was in was thick and oily . The first bite I took I started choking. I couldn't get it down. So I just ate the chicken out of it. I'm sorry to say, my neighbors nachos didn't look much better. She ate 3 bites and couldn't finish it. Why she took it home in a box, I don't know cause I know she'll toss it. Will I come back? No!! Sorry! There are better Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Take forever, the prices are not right says 6$ for breakfast burrito charged me 8.50 then asked for a tip. I'm flabbergasted.

The feel of this place is definitely pushing authentic inside, though outside is no great shakes. Seating could be a lot more comfortable, but I've been in worse and so, probably, have you. Menus were also rather battered, which is something of a peeve of mine. I don't know how many people spend time with menus, but if you, say, have a food intolerance, those can be pretty handy. These shoddy things are definitely in need of replacement and I found the food pictures to be curious...not particularly appetizing, mind you, just curious and I mean that in the context of the idea that someone would intentionally use those pictures to try to sell the actual food dishes. That aside, chips and salsa were mostly a bust, which at times can be a warning signal. Their rather poor choice of drinks on the menu already had me kind of leery (I wound up with one of the worst and most unfortunate iced teas it has ever been my misfortune to try), but they had a Carnitas dish, which indicated a certain specialness in preparation that was outside of what I'd had before, so I went with that. I find their claim that using evaporated milk and orange juice is a healthier way of preparing this type of meat, but certainly I'd never had it, to my knowledge, that way. When the combination platter came out, it was stunningly huge. They definitely don't skimp out on portions here, evidently, including the tortillas. Rice and beans were kind of a bust for me and unlike several other Mexican-ish restaurants, they don't bury everything under a mountain of cheese. As to that version of Carnitas...I use the term "cat food" a lot in reference to sushi that looks like it was prepared using the canned tuna and that was more or less what I had here, a pile of mushy pork that was eerily similar to tuna from a can. Parts of it were browned, almost like they had attempted to fry the pile as a burger and those darker parts were definitely the better for it. Flavor was interesting, but not anywhere near the better versions I've had of this dish. Overall, the experience was more one that I would typically just chalk up to more or less an average experience, call it a 3 and probably not visit again, as it is definitely out of the way from where I typically am and it wasn't good enough to be a destination spot, but Ol' Ironguts took a pretty substantial beating after eating there and there is no restaurant, no matter how good or more or less acceptable, that is going to get away with initiating gastric distress and emerge unscathed. After that, definitely won't be returning and it obviously considerably soured an already underwhelming experience. read more

Oh my God. The best tomatillo salsa I've ever had, hands down, bar none. I will be making regular trips now just for the salsa! I also love that they have a 3 enchilada plate: chicken, cheese and beef. I wish other Mexican restaurants would do that! The food was awesome. A little bit lacking in spice, but still fantastic, and I have leftovers for days. I even loved the rice, which I normally don't eat. Everything was sooooo good, and the staff was delightful. Could not have had a better experience. Plus they have a drive-up window, yay! Update: had a food delivery service bring me the exact same order, and again, it was perfect. That tomatillo salsa will give you dragon breath for days but I don't even care. I am now a VERY loyal customer of this place and will be back weekly as long as they're there! Very reasonable prices, and most Mexican places don't offer the three enchilada option with chicken, beef and cheese. LOVE IT! Couple of suggestions though, please start offering black beans instead of refried. Refried make me suuuuper sick, and it would be nice to have an option. Also, I didn't see tamales on your menu, if I missed them I apologize, but if you don't offer them, please start. The food here is pretty typical for Mexican cuisine. The strawberry margarita was decent but for $2 I couldn't ask for more. Their salsa is very good. The waitress was nice and smiled a lot. Went here for our third time and we were not appointed. I'm not sure why the negative reviews but this has become our go to Mexican place. The chili rellenos are outstanding, the best I've had in Utah. The tomatillo salsa is excellent. The food here is a little different than most of the other Mexican restaurants in the arin that they use less chili powder and rely more on the natural flavors of the ingredients. The refried beans and rice are good examples of letting the the natural flavors shine through. Don't be afraid to try out Burrito Grande. I'm sure that most of you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

My wife and I having been driving by this place for sometime now and finally decided to drop in for breakfast. We were served with complimentary chips and salsa to start with two portions of mild salsa and one small portion of moderately spiced salsa. I got the huevos con chorizo and absolutely loved it. It was mildly spiced so I added in a spicy salsa for that perfect balance of flavor and spice. I would say it's pretty authentic Mexican food. Some of the negative reviews were patrons(from Texas) looking for TexMex food. We are looking forward to going back for their lunch and dinner menu as well as to try their $3 margaritas on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our server was also really nice! I got 2 carne asada tacos, a carnitas taco, and the chile relleno meal. I got home ready to have a meal that looked delicious.... boy was I disappointed. I'm not even sure where to begin describing the taste. All the food was really bland! It was like tasting baby food for the first time. No salt, no flavor, no nothing. It had potential but man, it was bad! Don't waste your time or money. I couldn't finish it. I tried, I honestly did. I even added salt and my own hot sauce. It did not help. Maybe a new cook that has taste buds may make Burrito Grande better but I will not be going there again no matter how bad I want Mexican food.
