Garden City became our vet when a dog we adopted from a rescue had been in their care. They are WONDERFUL. The team is caring and knowledgeable, great with follow-up. They offer a wide range of services that my previous vet didn't offer and at a reasonable cost. I have never felt they are suggesting tests or procedures to inflate costs. I am very pleasantly surprised and happy I found Garden City Veterinary Care. I was transitioning from my old veterinarian to find a new one after 7 years with them. Main reasons is because my old veterinarian clinic quality of care started declining and prices were substantially increasing. Like any good pet parent, you look for a veterinarian that gives the same care as if it was their own pet. Honest and fair prices. I found this in Garden City veterinary care especially with Dr. Elizabeth Stietzle and the team there. My fur baby had her first dental cleaning there. We love Garden City Veterinary Care. We take our dog Chloe for appointments as needed and the staff is always caring and wonderful.

I do not recommend Garden City Veterinary Care for a number of reasons. My reasons are based on my own encounters with the practice and many are the same as those stated in previous reviews! Concerns... --Unprofessional office staff, particularly management. --Awful communication --Unnecessary testing resulting in very high costs. As a new patient they did the same exact blood work that was done only 1 week prior. --Estimates for cost are given but they are not honored. --Lack of response from doctor who do not return phone calls. --Lack of explanation of suggested care, even after an explanation is requested several times. --Lack of patience and empathy. They muzzled my 15 year old, 6.5lb dog stating she was aggressive! She showed no sign of aggression while in the room with me while being handled and examined. This was done in the back, where I was not present. She has never in 15 years ever bitten anyone, and she has very few teeth at her age, evident and commented upon during exam! --Inadequate record keeping. I requested they examine a growth on my dog's head, there is not indication in the dog's record this was done. Finally, if you question them they will simply tell you not to come back, as they did to us and a patient in a prior review. This kind of response prohibits the customer from having the ability to questioning the care provided to their pet. Coupled with the lack of explanation and response from the medical team I experienced it appears they do not have the genuine love and concern for animals that you would hope to find at a veterinary practice. read more

I dont write reviews so to take the time out of my day to write this review says a lot. They make it a point to steal as much money from you as possible. Knowing you care about your pet, they use it to their advantage to charge you in anyway possible. Although I could list many many reasons I have had issues with this office, my final straw was their negligence towards my cat today. I had to bring my cat for a quick procedure to cut off extra skin that had opened up in order to prevent it from getting infected. My cat is by no means aggressive but the area in which he was being cut (his testicle skin) was sensitive and in turn leads him to be more aggressive (fair response from an animal thats in pain right?). Well god-forbid you bring in an animal thats in any sort of distress because their lack of empathy for your pet will go right out the window. They obviously had to sedate my cat in order to preform this operation. They called at 12:11pm that he was done with the procedure and they were waiting for him to wake up from his sedation for me to pick him up. The doctor said to come between 1-1:30pm. At 12:28pm exactly they call to say that he pooped in his cage and they can not open it because he is "wide awake" and "too much of a risk". They left my cat covered in his own feces until I arrived. I get home to open the carrying case and he is completely covered in his own feces. The fact that a veterinarian office could do that to an animal who just had surgery and isn't in control of such things is not only disgusting but harmful because I could only imagine what they do to your pet when your not around. My cat was practically completely under sedation still. He couldn't even stand up to walk out of the carrying case. I had to use an entire pack of animals wipes to try and clean him but that wasn't enough. The feces was mushed all into his fur. All the staff at this establishment CHOSE to leave him covered in his own feces (even where his open wound was from the operation). This isn't the first time they have been negligent towards my 2 cats or dog. They make sure to price gauge, they don't care to treat your animals with respect(especially Dr. Polly), and forget calling management to complain about it because they have the nerve to tell me it was my own fault that this happened. How you ask? Well I have the same question as well. If you made it this far in my review I hope you understand the frustration as an animal owner that you only want the best for your pets. If you bring them here, know your animals will not be receiving fair, reliable treatment. I will never step foot in this office again and heed my warning, you shouldn't either. read more

Horrific! We took our dog for constant itching and an ear infection. The bill was over $300. When the medication was finished, my husband went back and asked for a refill. They refused to give us any medication without another office visit. When my husband questioned this, they told him to leave and never come back. We've also had issues with their boarding. Years ago we left our dog there twice and both times what they told me it would cost was different when I went to pick up my dog. This place is horrible! Tell your friends! read more

I am heartbroken to have to write this. We have been going to Dr. Buscemi for years and absolutely love her. But now because of her rigid and uncaring office manager Molly we will be looking for another vet. We have spent thousands and thousands of dollars there over the years but that didn't matter to Molly as she charged the $33 late fee after we called to say we were running late because our sick dog, who has severe anxiety, refused to come out of her crate and my husband literally had to crawl in and carry her out. When we called to say we were running late because of our situation with our dog, they thanked us and even snickered when we said we would be at least 7 minutes late. Apparently people don't usually call when they will be a few minutes late. Never were we told there would be a late fee if we were more than 15 minutes late. When we arrived at the vet, again our dog was giving us problems because she was afraid to come out of the car. She is a rescue dog and we understand this can be common with them. While we were trying to coax her out of the car, the office called and my husband was talking to them and explaining we were in the parking lot and having problems. Nobody responded on the phone so I ran into the office to ask if they heard my husband on the phone and then I explained what was going on. My husband then came in with our dog. Our appointment was for 2:00. After all was said and done my husband walked in with our dog at 2:15. The person behind the counter said we would be charged a late fee! We said absolutely not. We called them, they knew about our dog's anxiety. We had no idea they charge for late fees. When we said we wouldn't pay a late fee the person said he would ask the vet. A few minutes later we were greeted by the medical technician and the vet. We assumed it was taken care of, that we wouldn't be charged the late fee. We would never have agreed to have our dog be seen today if they were going to stick with this ridiculous policy of late fees. And we had told them that. Knowing that, they had us be seen by the vet and then...yup...they charged us the $33 late fee!! When we asked to speak to Molly's supervisor she refused to give us a phone number. She only gave us an 800 number for the corporate conglomerate that apps now owns the practice. I am so upset and furious at the same time. What else were we supposed to do?! I would not recommend them anymore unless they remove the late fee and go back to caring more about the animals than the ridiculous fees. read more

I've been going here for 7 years, unfortunately, I took my dogs for a wellness checkup, Paris, and Gizmo on 10/20/2023. I was told that one of my dogs had an ear infection which is Gizmo and was NOT told that my other dog Paris had an ear infection. I then took my dogs 3 days later to the groomer and was told by the groomer that Paris had an ear infection. Gizmo, then went today 10/26/2023 for treatment for his ear infection, If we had been put on notice that Paris had an ear infection we would have booked an appointment for Paris as well today. Moving forward Nina the manager wants me to pay for another evaluation for Paris when she also mentions that the Vet notice states an ear infection in Paris which was never verbally communicated to me. Nina was very unprofessional, she came on the phone and read notes on Gizmo by the Vet when the issue was about Paris all along. I got my records and have left Garden City Veterinary Care, just because of Nina's unprofessional attitude. I do not want to spend my money on services when the facility employee can't communicate or be reasonable. read more

I was a client of this office since we brought our puppy home. After repeatedly being irritated by the lack of professionalism of the staff I have decided to change veterinarians. It is also worth noting that this office seems exceedingly expensive for their services in relationship to other veterinary offices I looked into when I decided to make a change. Also, as other posters note there is definitely something complex going on between the Best in Show Resort and this office. Purportedly, they are two different entities. However, when I tried to make a reservation, after being a client of some time, I was informed of a new rule that without the express consent of the vet at GCVC that I would be unable to board my dog. read more

Dr. Polly is really great and experienced. The place is very nice and clean, and the staff, especially vet assistants are very kind and competent. They can be pricey for some pet owners but they explain what they're doing and the cost along the way. As a rule of thumb, when you're at any vet, always ask the price before they perform a service. You can't blame them for the cost and being ripped off if you never even asked how much! The reason I don't give them 5 stars is because the first vet I saw didn't know all that much about what disease my dog had but she was nice and thorough. read more

The receptionist is rude. She needs to some manners, guess you can't teach an old nasty dog new tricks. The only reason i stay is beacuse the doctor and her assistant are great and are excellent with my dog. Don't let them add a surprise to your bill by waiting til you get back to the receptionist desk, ready to pay and leave, by coming to you taking your leash right out of your hand and saying "oh but wait we going to clean her ears" and you thinking ok no big deal, my dog needs her ears cleaned" yeah right $12 added itself to your bill, lol, if you need something like that let them do it otherwise just say no. It's a mixed review. As far as making me wait with my 2 crying cats in the waiting room 45 minutes past my appointment when the place was empty- thumbs down. And hold on to your wallets! This place charged me $21 just to clean my cat's ears ( $21 each cat!). I got a $575 bill and they didn't even get blood work. Yikes!! The place itself is clean, has good parking, and the vet was thorough and spent and hour with my pets. I felt happy with the care they received but unhappy with the wait and the bill which I had no idea was going to be that much. They never gave me a clue! When i came to this office i had a dog full of unknown allergies that no other vet helped me figure out. As soon as i got here Dr Buscemi recommended an allergy test. She helped us find out the root cause of my dogs allergies. We are finally able to contain my dogs horrible allergies thanks to this vet. Even though my dog is big and mean ,Dr Buscemi never gave up on us and she always gave the best advice. She didn't push me into spending the most money on unnecessary products , she gave me options and let me decide. Yesterday my puppy Charlie was bit by a neighborhood dog. I called late in the day yesterday and the receptionist Emma was really helpful and so sweet. She got me in very early today so i could get my dog patched up as soon as possible and had very little wait time. My pup saw dr Levine and i couldn't be happier with how they treated me and my dog. All of the staff were amazing. Also, they went over all treatment and costs before doing anything so that i wasn't blindsided with a huge bill. I plan on bringing both of my dogs back for check ups. We paid for a bath and grooming and they gave her back to me still all knotted up. Today, 2/28/22, we brought our cat and dog to Garden City Veterinary Care which we do once a month. We usually have a great experience with them, but today was far from. To start, we arrived and were placed on hold for 15 minutes and we had to wait in the car. When someone finally came back to the phone, they proceeded to ask a plethora of unnecessary questions which they should have already had the answers to in their records, being that we have brought our pets here once a month for several years. The questions included vaccine info, diet info, health history, etc. After speaking for another 10 minutes, somebody finally came to get the pets and informed my dad that their policy changed since covid began and one person could now go in with the pets. Mind everyone, the appointment was made specifically to have my dog to have a full examination, anal gland cleaning, and two vaccinations. The cat was supposed to get flea cream applied and an examination which should have been around $340.00 give or take. Once the discussed procedures were done they asked my dad if they could give my dog a blood test. He said ok. When they came back he was made aware that a multitude of other procesures (three in total) were done and they increased the bill by $250.00!!! I felt like I was at the mechanics when you go for one procedure and they say that 10 other things need to be done, when in reality they are unnecessary. They never said they were giving anything extra besides the blood test. I was blind-sided and forced to pay the extra $250, bringing the bill to $582.00!!! The right way to do this would have been to show me what tests they were going to do, show me the price, and ask if I agree or not. What if I did not have the funds to pay the extra $250? This left a very bad taste in my mouth and I am considerimg changing vets. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Buscemi. Not more than 10 minutes later, the incompetent staff called be back and advised she didn't realize Dr.Buscemi was on a leave. I then asked what doctors have evening hours and was advised they'd ask you and call me. A few days passed and without a return call I called. I was told that no other doctors have evening hours and further that I couldn't get an appointment for my dog for 3 weeks! I said ok but he needs his medication. To which she responded "they won't give meds within seeing him". I said but they can't see him for 3 weeks and he's out, what's my alternative??. She repeated meds wouldn't he get meds without being seen. I got extremely upset, worried for my dog's health as he takes 3 medications and I told her if my pet gets sick because he has no medication I'd sue them. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, they can't see my dog for 3 weeks but also can't give him his medication without seeing him!!! The next communication I got was a call (3 days later) requesting my email so that an unprofessional and cowardly doctor could (rather then call which would have been professional) send me the following letter: "you have recently contacted our office to make an appointment for Dante. Due to a history of situations involving our staff and yourself, our practice will no longer be able to accommodate you. We have forwarded your medical records. We wish Dante the best with his new veterinarian" So there you have it, this practice decided to abandon a patient without medications. What kind of doctor knowingly abandons his patient without medications???? Disgusting. On a side note, on my first visit to this highly unprofessional office, I furnished them with all of my dog and cat's previous vet records. They returned to me only the 4 pages for my dog generated by their office, advising that they never saw my cat and therefore had no records for him. I am still awaiting return of all the records I furnished to them. Avoid this unorganized and unprofessional practice at all costs! We are so glad and pleased to have these veterinarians taking care of our pets ( Brooklyn/dog & Khaleesi/cat). My Brooklyn has to have a mass removed from his leg this past week and they treated my pet with the highest care I could have ever expected. Dr Polley explained to us the procedure helping us be a little at ease with what our pet was about to go thru. Dr Polley maintained us apprised of Brooklyn's surgery calling us when he had an opportunity just to keep us calm. Once done he called us and told us exactly what had occurred and that Brooklyn was doing well. They even texted us a picture of Brooklyn late at night to show us that he was doing well. Garden city Vets worked with us on the cost of the surgery taking in consideration how expensive the procedure was and our situation. We are beyond happy with their service and their professionalism. I can't speak for anyone else but I have always had a great experience here. My cat, Pearl, has landed herself here with two episodes of a foreign body ingestion and Dr. Buscemi and Dr. Levine always take amazing care of her. I had a trip planned during the time of one of these unplanned emergencies and they sent me updates and pictures of her daily. Juan, their tech, stayed overnight with her while she was recovering and updated me regularly. They are all so wonderful and saved my cat's life twice. Yes, X-rays and tests cost money just like they would at a human MD but I have insurance on my pets and I always get at least 80-90% back so it's not awful once you get the invoice submitted for reimbursement. I have moved 20 minutes away since first getting connected with GCVC and I drive the distance because they are so great. Thank you for everything! read more

I've been bringing my dog, Kismet, here since August 2009 and absolutely love it. Dr. Polley and Dr. Ries do an amazing job of taking care of my dog, and provide her with the best possible care she could receive. They are extremely accommodating, very clean, and spend as much time as needed with your pet. They are open on Saturdays and late during the week, which is really great when you are working. Kismet loves the vets and staff at Garden City Vet! Kismet also goes next door to Best in Show, which Kismet also loves! Also, I saw that one of the other reviews stated that clients get discounts for writing reviews, but I never heard of this or received a benefit. I have been bringing my dog Belvedere to Garden City Vet for almost 2 years and have pretty much always had great experiences until my last visit this past Friday, February 12, 2016. My dog suddenly became very sick and I still have absolutely no idea what is wrong with him. The Dr took him into the exam room and began to tell me at first that he had a head cold and to let it run its course but said she wanted to run multiple xrays, of the neck, chest and abdomen yet I never saw any of the films nor was I told what showed up on them. After the xrays the dr changed her tune to the fact that she suddenly found a tumor and thats what was causing his difficulty breathing and what not. I continued to ask questions but was basically brushed off and told that they wanted to do blood work and send the films out to a radiologist to be read. I was fine with that until I got to the desk and was asked for payment. Now I've never had an issue with paying them before and since my dog was seriously ill I left my house without my wallet so I told the receptionist that I'd call her as soon as I got home with a credit card, she then told me to hold on and came back and said Dr. Polly screamed at her that that's not the way this works and I agreed with her, I didn't expect my visit to be for free however due to the circumstances and me rushing out of my house to get there and being extremely nervous for my dog, he was going to get his payment within the hour. She then told me to call my mother and get a credit card from her, mind you, I'm a married women with my own child so where in anyone's mind that works there would ever think that it's ok to say such a thing or to think it's my mother's responsibility to pay for my dog? That is absolutely absurd and ridiculous. I left there very unhappy both with the responses about what was going on with my dog and with the payment issue. I then got a phone call 15 minutes later from the receptionist, harassing me for payment otherwise they won't be sending out his blood work or xrays to a radiologist. It then became quite apparent to me that their first concern is money money money and NOT the well-being of my animal. I never received a call the next day as promised with the results of the tests they did run. I did go to another vet today, Saturday, February 13 for another opinion and my dog was so ill that he died and had to be revived in an emergency room at the animal hospital because Garden City Vet doesn't know their ass from their elbow and gave me no answers while I was in their office. I will NEVER EVER bring any of my dogs there EVER again. They are money hungry vets who care more about payment than about the life of an animal. They overcharge on simple procedures and run unnecessary tests to rack up ones bill. My dog is now in intensive care at a 24-hour facility fighting for his life while this new and very competent dr figures out what exactly is wrong with my dog. I will be calling the office of Garden City Vet to inform them of what has happened to my dog in the hours since he left their office and how he's lucky to be breathing right now bc they don't know how to properly DR. Stay away from this sh*thole of an office with rude and obnoxious staff and Drs. Beware of what they charge you for and the fees they charge you for as well. They have little hidden fees all over your bill for waste disposal and whatever other ridiculous things they can try to charge for. read more

I can't say I know much about the vets who work here at all, and for good cause. I called on the phone asking for a rough estimate to fix 2 cats....it was 488$......each. A quick search revealed that this isn't normal at all. Mind you, these are cats that have had all their initial exams and vaccinations --absolutely ridiculous, would not recommend for any spaying/neutering. read more

$750 for an xray, some antibiotics, and an ultrasound that supposedly showed nothing on it, but stones sometimes don't show up on an ultrasound according to the vet. And this was discounted. They seem to go back and forth on their pricing, they quote one thing, charge another. This was a simple diagnostic to see if my dog had stones and $750 later they still don't know. Treating with antibiotics and expensive dog food that seems to be all over their office. And if the treatment doesn't work, I'm supposed to go back and pay close to $3000 for surgery. Surgery for stones that don't show up on an xray or ultrasound. Okay. read more

They are absolutely amazing! They do incredible & complex procedures there from Spinal surgeries, hip replacements, severe bone breaks requiring pins & plates. They are wonderfully talented in diagnosing illnesses. We have sent several rescues to them and every one has been restored to health and these were not easy or typical cases. My Last foster Linden, arrived at the City pound 35lbs underweight, literally skin & bones. Worse yet was his shelter blood work, which indicated a dog death's door, he had severe IMHA, a severe form of anemia that can be lethal. His hematocrit levels were just 6% and healthy is 40-50%. He looked like a feeble, old geriatric dog, no energy, no color to his skin, no fat or muscles just skin covering all his protruding bones. The team at GCVC quickly found that he was suffering from a tick-borne blood parasite infection called Babesia. He also had kidney disease & pneumonia from Kennel Cough caught at the shelter. They came up with a complex treatment regimen and they restored him to perfect health. They cleared the Babesia, as well as the kidney disease, and the pneumonia. He gained weight to a healthy 72lbs and got his energy and happiness back. They also removed a cyst from his eye that was causing him so much discomfort and he can see out of it now! They also determined that once he was healthy the shelter's age estimate of 5Yrs old was way off and that he was more like 2Yrs old. Not only did they restore his health but, they made it possible for him to be adopted into such a wonderful home. A really sick dog, that also looks terrible has a really hard time finding a home, most people won't or can't afford to adopt a dog with extensive pre-existing medical conditions. So everything they did for him made it possible for him to find the bets home ever. He's adored and so happy. Linden lives on lake where he runs and swims. I've been using GCVC for over a year now for all of my rescue dogs. They have been a wonderful asset to our animals. We are a special needs rescue who take on a lot of sick and injured animals. Our animals receive the best of care from GCVC and the staff there. They are extremely accommodating to last minute appointments and always responsive to emails/questions about our current animals. The facility is very clean and the vet techs are all wonderful care takers. I know when I have to leave a pet there overnight it is in the best of hands. Dr. buscemi is an incredible soul who looks at every single one of our rescues as her own pet. Dr. Polley has consistently accommodated our rescues needs and I would not trust our animals anywhere else. Some may say they are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and I've experienced many many vets over the years running a rescue group and they are completely in line with pricing. We recently used Garden City Veterinary Care to innoculate our Golden Retriever for the flu. As the saying goes, first impressions are lasting impressions. It was apparent on our visit that the staff kept the facility very clean. We were greeted in the reception area promptly and instructed as to the procedure that our dog would be subject to during this appointment. The handlers were friendly towards him. Upon completion the medical staff were made availalbe to answer any questions that we had. We were also given guidance/instruction as any after-care issues. Overall, it experience was exactly what we expected from a professional medical facility. read more

Do not take your pet here. First of all they offer discounts to their clients for a good review so beware of the five stars reviews. Secondly they provide horrible service. I took my pet poodle there and he got sick from one of the medication and they told me I had to pay in order for them to take a look at the sick dog. Keep in mind this is a day after my initial visit. They convince you to take unnecessary tests that cost you a harm and a leg.Save your money and save you beloved animal friends.
