The staff at Garden Heights is incredible! Every time I stop by, I'm greeted by at least a few friendly employees who are always willing to go above and beyond answering questions and offering help. I'm a total novice gardener and very appreciative of the knowledge and recommendations they share. The overall service is great, especially when buying soil or compost--you purchase that at checkout and they'll bring it right out to your car in their parking lot. Their variety of plants is wonderful; I could spend hours wandering through the different sections. As a newbie gardener, I had a little bit of sticker shock on some items, but I feel confident paying what might be a little more than at big box stores for the quality of plants/supplies and service. read more

Such an amazing experience! My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for some flowers to decorate the front of our new house. They had a top tier selection of annuals, perennials, bushes, trees, gardening supplies, and anything you could possibly need for landscaping. We were looking at a tree we really liked, and an employee immediately came over and gave us some great tips about that particular plant. He gave some other useful recommendations as well. We ended up getting a variety of annuals for some of our flower pots and two big bags of soil. When we checked out at the counter, they asked what car we drove and explained that an employee will meet us in the parking lot to load up the heavy bags of soil for us. This is the dreamiest nursery!!! We love coming here so much; they have the best selection. All the plants are beautiful and healthy, and they have a great variety. This is probably my favorite nursery in the area. They have such a big selection of everything that you need for your garden. I always felt like I got lost in plants heaven everytime I was here. I got 2 of my fiddle leave figs here a few years ago, and they were beautiful. I also picked up most of my planters from Garden Heights. The people working outside always greeted me or asked if I needed help with something when they saw me walking by. As a self proclaimed "crazy plant lady" the discovery of this place was a mixed blessing. The selection was enormous, consisting of a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor plants. The indoor plant selection was remarkable, including unique variations of widely popular indoor plants. I even found two "thai constellation" Monstera's. I had to refrain myself. I didn't explore the outdoor section as much because I don't have room for much outdoor landscaping. They had immature, as well as mature plants to choose from. The selection of pottery was unique and exciting. They had a small selection of air plants as well. Staff gave me my space to browse, but were quick with answers, and, very helpful. Let me repeat my opening line from my review back in 2013, "The staff here is very knowledgeable and eager to help their customers." Seven years later, this is still true. The customer service here, is truly the gold standard. My dogs nanny, gifted me with two beautiful African Violets. I found the perfect spot in my sun-room for them to be inside and have ample light. However, I do not have a green thumb. I watered them and I may have over watered. They shriveled up and I was losing them. I was besides myself, I wanted to save them. Due to the pandemic, Garden Heights was closed and I could not get the assistance I needed at Home Depot or Lowe's. When GHN finally opened, I headed over immediately for help. Told them my situation and they knew the solution. They recommended a self-watering pot for my violets and they are flourishing now. (4 weeks ago) In short: Very friendly and efficient staff. They held my tree for a few days after I purchased it. When I picked it up, they loaded it into my Prius with no issues. I'd go back for sure. Details: 6 or 7 gallon Autumn Blaze Maple (Acer x freemanii 'Jeffersred'), $169, 8-9 feet tall. This wasn't cheap in my book, but I suspect it's a fair price for a local nursery. Very happy with the tree and content with the price. Note: the 15-ish gallon version was considerably more expensive, yet only a foot or two taller, so the 6/7 gal was comparably a great deal. Tree has been planted a month now, and looks great! Well, this was my first visit to Garden Heights and even though it was raining quite a bit on me - I loved browsing their selection of plants. The employees were friendly (three of them offered me help - and they were very knowledgeable about what they sold. Are they more expensive than Home Depot - yep. Are most of the plants ones that you would never find at Home Depot - yup. If you don't know a ton about plants and/or landscaping- these folks are VERY knowledgeable. You may spend a couple bucks more but if you ask for their help - you will end up with the perfect plant(s) for your perfect spot. I didn't buy anything today because I was gathering ideas. Garden Heights Nursery is a popular garden shop conveniently located near 40 and Big Bend. They have a large variety from desktop plants to ornamental trees. Their staff is really knowledgeable and offer suggestions specific to your space and lighting options. We purchased a small tree for our front yard plus some flowering bushes of different colors. Came here for the houseplants, stayed for the seasonal plants. Seriously, they had everything. Service was SO friendly, like, the friendliest. I was greeted upon arrival and asked if I needed help, directed in the shop, and offered help in the greenhouse. Everyone was so nice. Their greenhouse was FULL of great starter plants, some harder to find. I was very impressed, and so excited. Prices were extremely fair, probably the best in the area. If you need pots? I came here for the first time several weeks ago. We are preparing to sell our house and realized there is zero landscaping (from previous french drain placement). We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and we greeted by several employees who were more than willing to help us. We discussed budget, sun exposure and the purpose of our visit. Garden Heights is such a cute Nursery. They have a huge selection of outdoor plants, vegetables, and some indoor plants. Their greenhouse offers the options for plants all year around. I've seen probably one of the biggest soil selections for a non-commercial nursery here and plenty of cute pots in an assortment of colors. I personally went for the indoor/house plants and they had mostly a similar variety to popular plants you could find at most nurseries, but they did have a few more unusual/rare plants. I love the selections of plants and pottery they have available. Cute holiday themes with optional ribbons for gifts as well. The only downside was the attitude of the workers.. I know as a business the priority is to provide high quality products. However, the experience of walking into a store is extremely important to the customer. I walked in to the shop, excited to buy a special gift for my mentor's family. One worker was eating potato chips by the register, and answered my questions with the least attentive attitude I expected from a sweet looking lady. The other lady in the back also gave me a response to my questions with minimal effort, with an attitude of, "how do you not know?" and such. Overall-- visually aesthetic, experientially undesirable. Probably will not come back unless I really have to. p.s. I ended up leaving with a package of cat grass seeds. Didn't want to do business with people with a bad attitude. read more

What a beautiful little nursery on Big Bend! We just stopped in really quick before heading to the Loop one Monday. It was really windy and cold out so we didn't really stay too long and a lot of their plants weren't out just yet. They have a lovely greenhouse with lots of orchids inside and many unusual specimens of plants to pick from. We loved all of the different pots and planters and just had to bring home one of their colorful tomato cages (see photo). We'll be back once it warms up.....46 degrees is a bit cold for me to look at flowers....brrrrr. read more

This is a great nursery because of the inventory and the way its laid out and the helpful workers. I have been here a handful of times and am always impressed. GH is not cheap but their products are high quality and they can answer any garden question you have. That kind of service is worth a premium. The parking lot is small and it can be hard to exit but I have always found a parking spot. This place has one of the best selection of organic and native plants in the region. I will be back and would refer anyone with garden questions and projects to this nursery. Also, I appreciate that Garden Heights allows LA Vista CSA to do share drop offs in their parking lot on Saturday mornings. read more

The employees at Garden Heights literally went above and beyond to help me design my garden bed, even configuring a mock-up of my garden in the parking lot and helping to load my car. I came this week with questions about fruit trees and the woman at the shop counter called for Steve to help me. Steve was amazing, patient, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. He showed me what was available and told me how many I should get for proper pollination. He also told me about berry bushes that I might be interested in - all this outside in a light drizzle. I didn't buy right then, but after me porch remodel is done, I'll be back for raspberries, an espalier, and a couple fruit trees. This is a great resource! read more

I love Garden Heights. They have a great selection of plants, super helpful and friendly staff, and adorable knick knacks. Shopping there is just such a lovely experience overall. We used to get our Christmas tree at Ted Drewes but one year we were a little late and they didn't have much left so we came to Garden Heights instead. The tree we got there was so much better than ones we got in years past - it lasted way longer and barely shed. Now we get our tree at Garden Heights every year - it's a lovely family tradition and the kids love visiting Ginger. read more

I have been to this nursery numerous time looking for advice and certain plants that I am unable to find at Home Depot. Every experience here has been pleasant. Their selection is very large and a bit pricey but the plants are well maintained. I was able to find Fiddle Leaf Figs here and Fox Fern. The people that work here are always very knowledgeable and can answer any gardening or plant questions. If they don't have an exact answer they at least offer other suggestions or locations that might be better suited to my needs. My Fiddle leaf is still going strong and so is the Fox Fern. read more

I came back to get some ideas for the veggie garden. The dude that greeted us was a total tree-hugger but in a cool way. I let him know that I'm new this raised garden idea and he walked me through it step by step... how to prepare the planter box and soil, what to plant and when, how to care for the plants throughout the season, and when to replace cold weather varieties with warmer crops. All in all he spent about 15 minutes explaining everything to us. ... I wanted to tell him to come over and I'll treat him to a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada and a joint... but I don't smoke. Either way, well done Steve. Thanks for taking the time to make this newbie feel like I know what I'm doing. I have added Garden Heights to one of my top nuseries in STL, and a regular in my rotation. I go here for one reason, and that is edible plants (herbs, veggies and fruits). They have the BEST selection here! Truly amazing variety of all three. I have bought things here that I have not found elsewhere. I have made many pilgrimages here this Spring, both for myself, and taking members of my community garden who wanted to get started. They also have a wonderful selection of certified organic plants for organic gardeners. Everything is well marked and it's easy to find what you need by section. It's huge. There are a LOT of other things here, which I plan on checking out next! Very high quality and good prices, too. I love that they have a place outside where you can easily check out and pay, instead of going inside carrying all your plants. I've never had to wait more than a minute here. The one thing I wish that was better was parking. It's tight, and I've experienced big time space hogs, people who leave their doors open and don't get out of your way when they see you trying to find a spot! Regardless of this, it leaves more space for plants, so I'm a fan! read more

For my more specialty garden items and for gardening advice I LOVE Garden Heights. The staff members are friendly and super helpful. They always look busy when I get there, but the second I ask for help they stop what they are doing and are happy to lend a hand. Although some of their prices are more expensive than Lowe's/Home Depot garden centers, the quality, customer service and knowledge at Garden Height's is well worth the trip or extra $$. They have everything you need for gardening and landscaping and a great selection of plants, flowers, herbs, shrubs, and evergreens.
