Our favorite little gem! I live and work literally minutes from this place, and it's a sweet little nursery with everything you need for gardening. They have a HUGE outdoor plant selection, and I noticed in the fall, they also have a bunch of great quality pumpkins. In their store, you can find house plants (more my style) for GREAT prices and great quality - you can even see where they're propagating which is cool. All of their gardening products are high quality brands (soil, solutions, etc). They also offer fresh garden produce when they have it, and fresh baked goodies. My favorite is all the local products they have for sale (canning, honey, etc.). It's a unique spot with a lot of great items and I would highly recommend for everyone local to check it out. read more

This place LOOKS like it would be a great nursery. It seems to have a lot of potential. It's a big space but the selection was terrible. Except for the roses and trees. But they didn't look at the peak of health. And very very expensive. I think someone forgot to water for the past few days. If I drive by and there is something that catches my eye I might stop. But to go out of your way to get what you need might not be in the cards. read more

The owners will take time out of their day to talk plants with you and explain the best practices for propagating and caring for plants of all kinds. I am a senior citizen, and this business is not senior friendly. Tree and shrub selection is ok; but you can have them order anything. I needed mulch today, so I went to Hartke knowing the price would be a little more than Home Depot; but when I was told a 3 cu ft bag of pine bark mulch was $19.99 I just had to take a step back. Home Depot is about $2/cu ft, so it would be $6 for 3 cu ft. To me, this indicates Hartke is price gouging. Getting back to the senior citizen problem, they want you to get around on uneven gravel paths pulling a wagon. That just doesn't work well. They should be more accomodating. read more

Very disorganized. Waited for 20 minutes before anyone helped me out. Being short staffed is not an excuse because there were plenty of staff around (they only let one guy talk to you) and someone even applied for a job while I was waiting; he was told they're not hiring. Perhaps they should reconsider. They forgot to order my plants and hence said they would be able to deliver next week. Very unprofessional to just claim "oops," especially considering I had called several times to discuss my order and confirm. The worst part is, I explained the time sensitivity several times both in person and on the phone when calling to confirm. Hartke's is a grand little farm house that sits back from Olive Boulevard and, upon arriving, will transport you into an oasis of plant loveliness. In the summer you will enjoy a large selection of annuals, perrenials, trees, shrubs and vegetable starts. The women who run this place have owned it forever and really know their stuff. They carry some organic soil amendments for those of you who grow your own food (their "black gold" compost is super rich, dark and yummy) I wish that they had more of a transplant vegetable selection, but people just aren't that adventurous when it comes to things. That just means you've gotta do it the hard way and stick it out with seeds. It's more gratifying that way any hoo. My mom has purchased her annual flowers every year since I was a kid at Hartke's and they are always of the highest quality. Hartke's also has a fine selection of home grown vegetables for purchase in the summer. Some of the tastiest tomatoes if you catch 'em on the right day. read more

Hartke Nursery is a great place to go if you are looking to buy a tree or trees for your yard. The people who work there are extremely knowledgeable about plants, which trees grow well in what sun and soil conditions, etc. The employees are also extremely friendly, they don't look down on those with little or no horticultural knowledge. read more
