A few years ago, I went to this medical office to have my shoulder evaluated by the same doctor that had previously operated on my hip. Due to his doing a satisfactory job on my hip I decided to see if he was also practiced at shoulder surgery. After waiting almost a week and a half and getting an appointment with Dr. Douglas Holden he explained to me that he was not doing hip surgeries any longer, and that he was focused on shoulder surgeries, which was to include tears. After being sent and responding to an imaging center to have an MRI done, it was confirmed that there was a rotator cuff tear to my left shoulder. At the time we had not had about any other injury and made a plan to have the surgery on my shoulder and this was because Dr. Holden, although it had been some years since he operated on my hip, but at that time he was mainly doing hip-hop operations and not shoulder operations. our he expressed being very certain that he could correct the problem with my shoulder and he expected that I would make a full . After having the operation and Dr. Holden claiming that he was able to repair the rotator cuff tear and he also found that my bicep had torn away and needed to be repaired also while he was in the surgery. A short time after the surgery, I responded to a office of my choice and one that he was well aware of called Third Space medical, which was in . During my visits to Physical Therapy, I had some unusual pain in the shoulder that the doctor had and Physical Therapy had expressed some concern about the pain I was having. After a series of follow up visits with Dr. Holden in a different office than their New Jersey office I expressed some concern because my shoulder was not healing and I was having more pain than the people at Physical Therapy had expected. After two follow up visits with Dr. Holden he show up at the but one of his underlings had shown up and had told me that I had met all the visits that required and permitted by the insurance company and that the shoulder should be just fine with more . more weeks of and having nearly as much pain that I had prior to the the physical therapist I was seeing had recommended that I go for another MRI to check to see what could be causing the pain that I was having. After receiving the results from my MRI and bringing it to the therapist, the showed that there was still tears to my rotator cuff that the doctor had . On several occasions, I contacted the office doctor was working and they kept telling me that I had used all the visits that the insurance company would pay for and that I would any further visits to Garden State orthopedics and Dr. Holden. Due to me being in my late 60s I chose not to have another surgery because I had a very bad experience with this surgery and did not want to go through another 6 to 12 weeks of and not having to use of my arm. After approximately one year, I began getting requests by Garden State orthopedics for an additional $1800.00 at which time I sent them a letter explaining why they would not be receiving the payments because Dr. Holden had failed me and did not correct the injury that I had had after he promised that there should be no fixing the damage to my shoulder. It is very clear that Dr. Holden is not a man of his and his office was very obnoxious and nasty when I was going through the pre-operation and mentioned that there was issues with the paperwork that stated I would be responsible for things that were always covered by my and at the time his office person who is in charge of the paperwork and the finances got very abrupt with me, and even my wife that was with me was very upset that they would speak to me the way they did at the time. Several times I called up and I wanted to speak with Dr. Holden about the issue and each and every time his people that answered the phone refused to allow me to speak with him and told me that either I pay him the money or they would send it to and I told they could do whatever they like because he complete the operation in the . It is now well over three years and I'm being threatened by his office to send the overdue to collections and I'm not interested in paying him any further money as he did not do the surgery and fix the injury in the manner he promised. After having my hip several years ago, I recommended at least six other people to Garden State orthopedics of mine out to them and looked at their said they would not go to this orthopedic center, and then I took a look at the ratings and it was very very distressing to see group of doctors with five star ratings had dropped down to a three star rating which told me that they would be becoming more of a clinic than a high-end orthopedic doctor agency. As it stands today, I would never recommend anyone to Dr. Douglas Holden or his orthopedic group after his seeing how his ratings had fallen in a few short years. read more

After an in office X-ray, it was determined it was a large calcium build up. I was given 3 treatment options. I chose meds and PT. My hand appointment, diagnosed tendonitis. I chose to wear a brace. I went back and got the cortisone for both on separate visits. I feel amazing and tell everyone that the Doctors give quality care. Those doctors do not care about your pain. They will not give you any prescription to get check and they just clear you up while you cry in pain. The rudest doctor there is dr Steven Shamash if you have a chance avoid the place in either location. read more

The only good thing about this office is the X-ray tech. She was incredibly nice and helpful due to my pain. That's the only reason they even deserve one star. The front desk staff, as others have mentioned, are shockingly rude. A bunch of young girls sitting around gossiping. Caught one of them, who turned out to be a nurse, staring at me several times as I was sitting there in the waiting room. Then when she called me in, I said "hi, how are you?" and smiled at her. She didn't say a word back to me and didn't crack a smile either. Completely ignored me, walked me to the room, said "the PA will be here in a min", and walked away and left me there. Didn't even ask me anything at all. The PA, Long Bui-Le, wasn't much nicer. Completely rushed me and incorrectly diagnosed me. As she rushed me out of the room, I realized she didn't even tell me anything like how long my injury would last or what activities I should avoid. I walked up and told the front desk, they were rude again and told me they'd call me in to see her in a min. Instead, she opened the door and didn't let me in, made me talk to her in front of the whole waiting room. What happened to doctor-patient confidentiality?! Ridiculous. Plus, this is my second time here and I found out they absolutely will not allow you to see an actual doctor until you see a PA and they deem it necessary. Wow. Went to Ridgewood Orthopedic and had such a great experience there. Never going here again. read more

I am reviewing the office staff in FairLawn, in particular the office manager. I have been using GSOA for 12 years, and today, I had the worst experience with this office. I don't even know the name of the office manager because she would not tell me. If you have been past a month since you saw a P.A., not the doctor, you can not get a call back. Instead, you have to make an appointment. I have never been treated so poorly from someone who claims to be the office manager. She was rude, spoke fast, and was demeaning. NOTE: This review is for the office staff and the Hoboken office in particular. Nov. 1 my Orthopedist referred me to Dr. Bernstein in the Hoboken location of Garden State Orthopaedic Associates. As I drove home I called GSOA and was immediately treated not like a potential patient but as if I was handing them a problem they didn't want to solve. Believe the other reviewers when they tell you how HORRIBLE and RUDE the office staff is. From the moment they picked up my call I felt like I'd entered an insane ASSEMBLY LINE that couldn't move fast enough for the woman supposedly "helping" me. I told her I had a report from the the referring doctor and a CD with MRI images and wanted an appt to drop them off in Hoboken. She insisted on asking what type of health insurance I had. I told her... but that wasn't sufficient. She wanted two sets of numbers off my insurance card WHILE I WAS DRIVING. "You mean you need that BEFORE I can get an appointment?" Apparently, yes. It's not sufficient for GSOA to know you have health coverage or who provides it: they want the Group # and some other # before they'll deign to set an appointment. While stopped at a red light I fished out my card and read the numbers to the impatient woman on the phone. During all this, BTW, she put me on hold several times because I wasn't moving fast enough for her. Then she abruptly transferred me to the Hoboken office and I explained that I wanted to drop my materials off. I was told "Well, we're closing at 4:30." I explained I was a few minutes away and would be there in time but when I arrived it was 4:32 and no one answered the door. I had to be in Hoboken the next day, Thu., Nov. 2, so I stopped by GSOA around 10 AM. The door was locked. And there is no doorbell. I went into the building next door and the front desk person told me to knock hard. I went back to GSOA and knocked repeatedly on the window and the door and a woman finally appeared. She opens the door just wide enough to stick her head out and asks "Can I help you?" I explained I was there to drop off my report and images and get an appt. and AT NO POINT does she say "Come in." She stands there with the door open a bit and asks repeatedly if I have copies of the everything in the large envelope I just handed her and I repeatedly tell her "Yes, I have copies." It was WEIRD, like she KNEW they were going to lose it all. She then closes the door on me and I head off to where I needed to be. It's now nearly two weeks later and NO ONE has contacted me from GSOA. So I called about twenty minutes ago and asked if I could be transferred to the Hoboken office. Again, more rudeness: "What do you need, sir? All calls are handled here," I explain the situation and am put on a five minute hold. The same woman finally comes back on and tells me "The woman who took your information has stepped out and should be back in ten minutes. I can have her call you." At this, I sort of lost of it and told her I'd been waiting two weeks and asked if there was anyone else who could help me. She began talking over me and I mentioned the horrible reviews here on Yelp and she just kept talking over me, telling me someone would get back to me. Then she hung up on me. I called my Orthopedist's office, the people who referred me to GSOA and explained what was going on. The first thing the woman there says is "Oh, yeah, they're not good. Dr. Bernstein is good but the office staff is not." I ask her for another referral to a different doctor and she gives me the name of a doctor my wife had seen for a broken leg. The guy was great and his staff was great. Guess where I'm taking my business? read more

Note this review is specific to the Clifton office: I made an appointment here because I had wrist pain, and I already had a diagnosis, but I had moved and needed to see a new doctor to schedule surgery. The office person said that I had to see a physician assistant first, even though I already had an MRI and a diagnosis and was ready to schedule a surgery. I said okay. On the day of the appointment, when I saw the physician assistant, she informed me that there was nothing she could do to help me and that I should have seen an actual doctor instead of her. She even went so far as to speak with the office staff about how I should not have been scheduled with her. I had emailed this office to state that I had moved because they took a very long time to bill my insurance. Three months later, I received a phone call that I indeed owe a co-pay for an appointment where there was no medical consultation or advice provided. I hope that others have had a better experience, but I felt sincerely ripped off of my time and my money from this experience, and I would recommend somewhere else. I gave 2 stars in the hope that this place is better to brand new patients, but my experience was just not good. read more

I came not knowing that I had a broken leg. I didn't receive the type of care that I felt I deserved. I told her that I was in pain and having a great deal of trouble sleeping. She told me the pain was almost over, that I had been through the worst of it. I wanted something for the pain, just a couple of days would have been great. The sleeping at night was ignored totally, nothing for that was given either. She told me to keep my leg elevated and then showed me using an exam table. I am sorry but I am nearing 70's, my leg up over the table isn't happening. I could barely walk much less sling it up and over a table. She never showed me my x-rays which would have been nice. I canceled my next apt with her and saw someone else. read more
