Garden State Tavern is a restaurant off Passaic Ave, with easy access of the main road and close to the highway. I found it very convenient that the location has a lot of parking. There is an entrance with a ramp and stairs. I want to say that the workers at Garden State Tavern are the best! Everyone is extremely kind and welcoming. I attended a private event as this location. The room that they have is big, with plenty of windows, and very clean. They allowed us to bring in a band so having our own live music was great! They offered food in buffet style. This included pizza, chicken, and sliders. I would rate the food a 3/5. The staff was very attentive during my time there, always asking if we needed anything else. read more

However, the service was weak. Don't get me wrong our server was very nice and personable once he "finally" made it to our table. But the overall impression was that they were understaffed, overwhelmed and very disorganized. The appearance of the tavern is essentially unchanged from its predecessor, Brook Tap House. Which really isn't a bad thing. Tastefully appointed with lots of TV's to watch your favorite game. I just wish that they would invest in some sound deadening materials as the dining area can get very loud. I will definitely dine at GST again. Went on a Tuesday night, they had trivia which was awesome! Love a good trivia night. Our waitress/bartender was very pleasant and answered all our questions regarding food options. She recommended wings and pizza as the best options, however, my husband tries corn beef Ruben's wherever we go and said it was decent. The fries were crispy which is always good. The sampler was good, the cheesesteak egg rolls lacked flavor and cheese. The sriracha Ketchup was also not what I expected it to be. The restaurant in general has what looks like to be a decent dining room and there are plenty of chairs at the bar. Plenty of beers on tap. The pumpkin espresso martini was just ehh for me, there was too much froth on top for me, it also took a long time to get a drink when there wasn't many people in the bar area. read more

Drag brunch at Garden State Tavern was mishandled by the venue. We were told the doors opened at 11, assuming we'd be able to eat before the 12 :15 show. We were seated at 11 and the asked to leave our table and wait in the bar. We were not allowed back to our table until after 11:30 so service was overlapping the performance which, BTW was so fun! Although this restaurant has a plethora of options on the menu by the looks of the room, it seems like it's best things to eat are pizza and wings. Despite not reading the room, I ordered a pasta and a sandwich. Neither dish sold us on the restaurant, but the customer service was very good. The staff was attentive to our every need. The calamari that we ordered as an appetizer was delicious. It came out very hot and crispy, which is exactly how we like it. I plan to get this restaurant another chance by ordering one of their popular dishes because I think we just ordered one of the less popular items off the menu. read more

After waiting for our food for 40 minutes, the potato pancakes tasted less than desirable, the iced tea tasted like dirty dish water, the chicken fingers were extremely salty to the point I wasn't able to eat them and barely had any fries,, however the cheese steak was good. read more

Had the boneless wings and split my order with 2 different sauces. The sauces were solid which is why this isn't 1 star. The actual chicken was the worst I've had in a boneless wing order in years. 90% breading and had a frozen taste. It's understandable that these might be frozen but cmon now, you can't serve breading bites with a hint of chicken to customers. I live nearby and want this place to be good but I couldn't eat more than 3 bites before giving up and now am unsure I can get myself to return. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight. I have to say it was awesome. The cheesesteak with the Calabrian relish was amazing. Other said there burgers were one of the best they have ever had. I've been to this place almost a dozen times and I can't stop going back. We tried their Trenton Tomato Pie because of Portnoy videos. We never had tomato pie before and now we can't stop ordering it. It's great! I've given up on the other apps and order the tomato pie as an app and take home the leftovers. And the other apps are pretty great. The wings with all the different dry rubs or sauces to pick from and my other favorite, Wagyu Cheese Steak Egg Rolls. We keep trying different entrees and so far we haven't been disappointed. And yes, we always go home with leftovers. And the drinks are pretty good also. I can't recommend this place enough. If you want a menu that's a little different than the normal fair, you have to give this place a try. read more

Nice atmosphere to catch Sunday games. They have screens across the entire wall and sound for one of the games, the sound isn't obnoxiously loud it's sort of the m the background there if you want if not you can still carry on your conversation. Bar type food such as burgers and pizza. They have football specials and other ones during the week. plenty of parking in back. First time here with my wife who has been here before since it opened in June. This was formerly the Brook Tap House. On my wife's suggestion based on her prior visit we went for lunch yesterday. Their theme is based on Jersey favorite foods from around the state. Very disappointed. I ordered the vegetable pot stickers as an appetizer. They were so soggy with no crisp to them almost inedible as if frozen then microwaved not pan seared. I had for my lunch a corn-beef Ruben. Again didn't get better. It was very tough to the point of being over cooked. Thousand Isle dressing was not good. Sandwich was very greasy. My wife had the Boardwalk cheesesteak. She said it was good. Only good thing for me were the french fries. On top of that the place was empty. I think there was one other table with two people eating. It took almost 40 minutes to 45 minutes to get our sandwiches. Again, I'm very fair when I review places and this was disappointing. I'm going to chalk it up with a new restaurant getting their feet wet finding their way. Maybe I'll go back and what I usually do is I'll try the same items because I always mention to our server about the issues I had and see if they corrected them but for now two stars and that's only because of the french fries read more

I have been here many times since it's opened and it has yet to disappoint. The wings are delicious with great choices of either dry rubs or sauce. I love the Cape May dry rub and the Calabrian sauce wings. So good. The pizza is also a fave, specifically the Trenton Tomato Pie. The food and specialty drinks are Jersey themed and they use a local distillery for the special drinks and they are great! The Cape May Old Fashion I highly recommend for the bourbon drinkers out there. The service is friendly and attentive from the managers, bar, servers even the food runners. They are still new, replacing an old staple, but give them a try and see what they are about for you will not be disappointed. Very clean and great back room for parties too. Trivia on Tuesdays is so much fun with our host Joe who is very clever with the way he makes the games different and fun every week. Like to sing well now there's karaoke too! Go!
