Such an adorable little bistro in a beautiful environment - inside Island Home Garden Center!! Lots of yummy breakfast/brunch options. They even had non-egg items, always a huge plus for me since I have an egg sensitivity. I ordered the yogurt parfait which included lots of fresh fruit including banana, kiwi, strawberries, mandarin, plus granola, Greek yogurt and honey. We chose to eat at the cafe and food was presented with pretty floral fabric napkins. My husband's food came on a crystal platter - I assume from a thrift store to support their eco friendliness. A delightful stop for breakfast, lunch, and drinks! We popped by around 10am with our two little kids. I loved walking through the garden center and sitting at the cafe surrounded by plants and relaxing music. Staff were super friendly and helpful in making recommendations for what to order. We ended up with the Ying Yang smoothie for our kids, matcha latte and whipped ricotta toast for me (it was divine), and a canned cocktail and breaky sandwich for my husband. The toast was INSANE. So good. My daughter stole some of it! And it was plenty filling. My husband enjoyed his breakfast sandwich as well and thought it was well flavored. The shake was alright--nothing amazing, flavor wasn't very strong. The waffles, though, were a big letdown. They were more like two dense cornbread slabs with a flavorless whipped cream topping. For $12, we expected more, especially when the bacon on the side tasted like something straight out of a microwave--Oscar Mayer vibes for sure. I read another separate review where the owner stated that the prices were based on the ingredients that are locally grown, which I'll let you be the test to that. I ordered the avocado toast with an egg (which, oddly, isn't included in the base $14 price). The toast was tasty, but one slice for that price feels excessive. I also got a vanilla matcha latte, which sadly just tasted like green-tinted milk. What really pushed the experience down was the price-to-portion ratio. My total for one piece of toast and a drink came out to $28 after the mandatory 18% gratuity, and the food took over 25 minutes to arrive--despite the small portions. In short: come here for the vibe, but don't expect to be wowed by the food. Aesthetic tourist trap is a good description. The warm and intimate setting set the perfect mood for a memorable evening. The service was truly top-notch. Our server, Hanna was incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The owner, Megan went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our dining experience was exceptional. Their genuine warmth and professionalism added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening. We started the meal off with a truly scrumptious cheeseboard and of course, amazing wine. The combination of tastes and presentation was simply outstanding. Like many others have said, the atmosphere at Gardenias Bistro is lovely -- it truly feels like a little oasis in the Keys. It's quiet, relaxed, and tucked away in a peaceful spot. No complaints about the ambiance whatsoever. Unfortunately, things went downhill once we placed our order. My wife and I got two drinks and one sandwich -- the total came to just under $40!! For what we received, that price was very excessive. The sandwich was small, soggy, and lacked flavor, and both drinks tasted watered down. Definitely not what we expected, especially after paying that much. What really left a bad taste, though, was the billing. I noticed the total seemed off compared to the menu prices, so I went back to ask for a receipt. That's when I discovered they had automatically added an 18% gratuity -- with ZERO mention of it during the ordering process. Even worse, after swiping your card, the payment screen still prompts you for an additional tip, which I added, not realizing I'd already been charged one. I think it's poor practice to sneak in an auto-gratuity without notifying customers, especially when it's followed by a second tip prompt. That lack of transparency feels dishonest. Overall, the food and service didn't justify the cost. There are plenty of other breakfast spots nearby where you can get two full meals and better drinks for the same or even less. Wow!! This place is amazing! You will find this gem off the side of the road nestled behind a beautiful collection of greenery and glass window pane art installation. To the good stuff - one of the best smoothies I've had - maybe ever and that is saying A LOT because I make them daily at home and frequent juice bars. We got 2 Ying Yang smoothies and added pea protein. They tasted like they added cardamom- my fav!! Something just tasted a little extra special - so yummy!! My hubby got a side of bacon and a Fern smoothie with pea protein added. Bacon was thin and crispy. It was all absolutely perfect! Such kind service when ordering and then mentioned to roam around and check out things out and they would come find us. Could have spent an hour looking around. The vibe is so chill full of greenery to enjoy and purchase. The food is served with the sweetest bistro napkins that I ended up buying some in the gift shop. Big chickens walk around - which is normal for the keys. They were by far the largest we had seen. There are also bunnies in the back that my son thought were adorable. The gift shop was so sweet and had many things that I would have liked to buy. As mentioned I got a set of bistro napkins also a hand painted sugar spoon and a small plate to sit it on. This establishment is located in the cutest Nursery in Tavanier, close to Islamorada. It's surrounded by beautiful plants that you can admire or buy; and a vintage garden decor. I ordered the Matcha Latte with Honey, it was exactly what I was looking for. For my meal I ordered a Breaky Bowl but there were no more sweet potatoes so the waitress suggested I have it as a wrap or sandwich instead and add some quinoa as a substitute. That's exactly what I did and the wrap was filling and healthy clean choice. The only downfall of this place is that they do not advertise their pricing, my meal included a wrap and latte and totaled $26, which I did find it to be a little on the higher end. Everyone there is so compassionate and genuinely cares about every customer that comes in there. Absolutely zero plastic. Even the take out and to go products are all bamboo. Next is the food, mouth watering. It's hard not to order everything there. Not mention everything is extremely clean, healthy, organic, no grease, no gross stuff. You actually feel good about the food you eat. My favorites are the ricotta toast and the truffle glizzy (I'm getting hungry thinking about I might actually go today) Okay and last is the environment. It's located in the island home center and you are just swarmed with an experience the second you walk in. Greenery and plants everywhere. I am from Chicago and I book-marked this place on Yelp as THE place to come for coffee / breakfast for our Key Largo trip (already knew what I wanted: iced oatmilk vanilla lavender latte). However, when we arrived, the owner was walking out and let us know they were closed for the day for repairs. We totally understood and began to walk away... and that's when she did something that completely made our day! Even though she was already locked up and ready to leave, she set down all of her stuff and offered to make us coffee. Not only was the latte incredible, but it really did make our day. THANK YOU!
