    Fried Lobster and Cold Grits
    Vicki A.

Unsure if it's the owner or manager, but the lady is charge ruins the entire experience. I listened to her berate one table then talk to another table about things for them to do in Key Largo. Even though she was helping them, she just seemed to be yelling at them. The Great: Key Lime Pie- best found The Good - ... The Bad - Cold Grits on both of our plates The Ugly - The lady in charge My party would like to go back for the Key Lime Pie. I wouldn't give this establishment 1 more penny.

    Calamari with homemade marinara sauce
    Howard F.

Super-friendly diner with good homemade dishes and lots of fish. The calamari came with a delicious house-made marinara sauce (we got a second round of the sauce). The golden Greek salad lacked Greek salad dressing, but the grouper on top was really good. The Black and Blue fish sandwich was ok -- the blue cheese crumbles overwhelmed the blackened mahi mahi, so I removed some of them to just have them with my fries (the rest of the fries I dipped in the marinara). And we took a couple of the nice huge muffins to go home with us.

I have found my breakfast spot in High Tide! Their breakfast offerings are extensive! They have daily omelet specials. They various benedikts. They have to-die-for freshly baked, gigantic, muffins. They have corned beef hash. They have country fried steak smothered in gravy. I almost forgot they have pancakes & waffles! You can get a coffee or iced tea refill to take along. I definitely never leave here hungry! Service is attentive, friendly and super efficient. Everyone likes chatting it up, regardless if you are local or just visiting. The restaurant is small inside. I nearly always sit at the counter when I am solo. They have a couple tables outside to accommodate those who smoke or who have dogs. There is plenty of paved parking in front and an additional gravel lot in the back. My highest recommendation for a great breakfast!

I am giving 4 well meant stars. The staff was nice and attentive. The food we had was good and in an acceptable price range. Unfortunately they do not have vegetarian dishes, so we had to go for french fries and a salad. French fries were delicious and the salad gravy was also very tasty. The blue cheese burger was more like okish. Would I come again. If there will be vegetarian dishes in the future, probably yes.

We stopped in on the way to Key West. Place has a nice vibe. Most of the staff were friendly. Our party came to the conclusion that our waitress was new. She wasn't as friendly as the other waitresses who stoped by and made many errors when taking our orders. My husband really enjoyed his lobster sandwich. The couple I was with enjoyed their food, especially the biscuits, but said their grits were cold and lacked flavor. I ordered a medium rare steak and over medium eggs. The steak came out well and eggs scrambled. Try 2 with the eggs were better, but still had runny white. I sent the steak back, and chose not to try it again. We believe our waitress didn't communicate what took place well to the manager (I'm assuming that was who came to our table afterwards). I'm saying that because the manager was aggressive and almost confrontational when she came to the table. She was escalating and seemed like she was ready for a fight when all I was doing was changing my order to two eggs. She was speaking very loudly and I felt like making a scene. It was very uncomfortable. She did take the steak off the ticket and was friendly afterwards. We indulged in the key lime pie, and we've tried many key lime pies, and I would say that it was close to being the best we've had. It was very tart and you knew eating it , that it was homemade. It's unfortunate that the previous hostile interaction left us all wondering what the heck just happened here.

Five stars, and I want to explain this properly because High Tide in Key Largo is absolutely a place people should experience at least once. This is one of those spots that immediately tells you it's a local favorite the second you walk in. It feels homey, lived in, and deeply rooted in the community. The average crowd definitely skews older, which honestly just shows how loyal the regulars are and how long this place has been doing something right. We stood for a minute or two when we arrived, which wasn't a problem at all, but the initial interaction felt a little abrupt. Nothing hostile, just very direct and urgent. We later found out that Cathy is the owner, and it became clear very quickly that this place is her whole world. She works hard, moves fast, and runs on urgency. That energy can sometimes come off sharp, especially to visitors who aren't used to that local, no frills style, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt. There were moments throughout our visit where the tone felt a little rough around the edges, and it wasn't just with us, we noticed it with other tables too. It didn't feel personal, more like someone who is stretched thin and running on fumes. To her credit, there were moments where she self corrected, and I genuinely believe this was just a long day rather than bad intentions. Running a place like this day in and day out is not easy, and you can feel how much effort goes into keeping it moving. This review isn't meant to tear anyone down, just to be honest for future guests so they know what to expect walking in. What truly changed our entire experience and pushed this from a four star visit to a solid five was our server. Her name started with a T, she wore glasses, and she was African American, and she was an absolute blessing. She treated us with warmth, patience, and genuine care, like we were family she was looking out for. When we sat down and the table needed to be wiped, she handled it gracefully without a single awkward moment. Everything she did felt intentional and kind. She was attentive without hovering, respectful, and genuinely happy to be doing her job. There was also a sweet older Latina woman clearing tables who was just as lovely and welcoming. It became very clear that despite the different personalities, this place functions as a team, and the heart of High Tide lives in the people who treat guests with care and humanity. If you get that server whose name starts with a T, you are in excellent hands. Now let's talk about the food, because this is where High Tide really shines. The hash brown casserole is a straight ten out of ten. No exaggeration. Comfort food perfection. Crispy, savory, and absolutely worth ordering. The country style platter we ordered was also a ten according to my friend, hearty and satisfying in the best way. The lobster benedict was good, I would give it about an eight. It's a fun, unique option if you want to try something different, but not the standout compared to the rest of the menu. And then there's the real star of the show, the Key lime pie. Even if you are not hungry, come for the pie. This is hands down the best Key lime pie I have ever had. Perfectly balanced, not overly tart, smooth and almost cheesecake like in texture. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause after the first bite because it's that good. Beautifully presented too. The decor is charming and thoughtfully cluttered in a way that feels authentic, not staged. The bathrooms are old but very clean. Parking is a little quirky but manageable, and there is parking available if you're patient. Overall, the vibe is cozy, memorable, and unmistakably local. Would I come back? Absolutely, especially for the food and that pie. Cathy, you are clearly working your ass off, and I hope this was just a rough day. This review comes with honesty and flowers, not shade. Five stars for the food, the heart, and the people who make this place what it is. I do recommend it.

Chef's Omelett & Hashbrown casserole, served with a grilled biscuit
    Kim L.

It was cold this morning - Florida cold, not Maine cold but we weren't ready so decided to go out for breakfast. I had seen High Tide a couple of times, and decided to give it a shot. It was soooo good. I know anyone who follows me will be surprised that I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict; and other than a bit too much hollandaise it was perfect - eggs done just right, ham was the right thickness and the English muffin was grilled. The home fries with onions were done perfectly - some of them came home for breakfast tomorrow. Wayne opted for the Chef's Omelette and the hash brown cheese casserole. They were both super decadent as was the grilled biscuit. The Chef's Omelette was full of chorizo, cheese, onion, peppers, mushrooms, kind of a kitchen sink. The casserole was an up charge but well worth it. Coffee was almost medicinal - it was so good and so necessary! Would love to go back and try the Key Lime pie. Our server was quick, awesome. The place felt like eating at home - but we didn't have to do the work....

    Veggie skillet and fiesta skillet

Came here because of reviews and skillets! My fave breakfast! I was not disappointed with my veggie subbed with cheddar instead of American cheese. Loads of veggies! Husband's fiesta had a lot of chorizo. And you get biscuits on the side. We sat outside in back to avoid traffic noise. Very enjoyable brunch!

    Bowl of lobster bisque

High Tide is Sunday brunch perfection! We suspected we were in for a treat when we saw the number of cars outside and had to park in an adjacent lot. To our delight, we were seated at the last available table and didn't have a wait. The service was so friendly and efficient. We truly enjoyed our meal and the whole experience. We both got a ham and cheese omelette with hashbrown casserole and biscuits. I also added a bowl of lobster bisque and was so glad I did. It was fantastic! The omelette was great but those biscuits... Wow! My grandmother would be proud of whoever made those biscuits! It was the unexpected bite of deliciousness that we needed! My mom loved the hashbrown casserole. It was rich, dense, and so cheesy. Don't pass on the newspapers up by the register. They have the old-school comics in them and make for great entertainment. I heard the muffins are also great, so I will try one next time. High Tide gives off a locals vibe with a lot of people greeting each other with hellos and handshakes, but they were also so kind to us as visitors.

Update: went back on last day - just as good. Our son got the same meal (country breakfast); I went a little off menu and elected to have chorizo on the side rather than bacon/sausage. It was different that expected; I thought it would be like a sausage whereas it was more like chile. It worked really well on my eggs and mixed in with my home fries.

The prices on the menu are pretty reasonable. I was going to order the bagel and lox for $16 but then I saw that the lobster Benedict was also $16, so I ordered that instead. I was disappointed though because the "hash browns" on the side were not the homemade kind, but a frozen deep fried cake. I was also disappointed to find that the "lobster" was actually a breaded deep fried mixture, like a crab cake. I intentionally did not order the crab cake Benedict because I don't like that kind of thing. My daughter ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon and Swiss cheese. It was good, and pretty big, so she could barely eat half of it. There is a nice view of the water from the restaurant. The parking lot is pretty small. I'd probably try a different restaurant if I'm back in the area.

It came with a pineapple-based sauce that worked really well with it, and the other sauces on the side had a nice mild kick without going overboard. If you go, start here. The calamari was light and crunchy, which is exactly how it should be. Nothing flashy, just solid execution with a standard marinara on the side. I asked for a piña colada and got something closer to a mango daiquiri hybrid. Honestly, I did not care. It tasted good and I am easy when the drink works. The fries that came with the Caesar wrap were crunchy, warm, and had some seasoning on them. Came with ketchup. No complaints. The teriyaki wings were crunchy and cooked well, but the sauce was not my style. It felt like it was just poured on top rather than worked into the meat. If you have ever had spare rib tips from a New York Chinese spot where they cook the meat right and then just ladle sauce over it at the end, you know what I mean. I prefer the sauce to be part of the experience, not an afterthought. The Caesar wrap was fine. I consider myself something of a Caesar salad critic, and this one was basic. Not bad, not memorable, just standard. The wrap itself held up though. Gus's Grille is a solid spot. Come for the crabcake and let everything else be a pleasant bonus.

The sampler comes with two conch fritters, two coconut shrimp, two bacon wrapped items (which we replaced), cracked conch, and lobster and conch ceviche. I have to say this while it's fresh in my mind. The moment I had the lobster and shrimp ceviche, I got chills. Just an incredible burst of flavor. Tiny bit of heat at the end but nothing overwhelming. Just really, really good. The conch fritters are solid too. Chewy, not over breaded, and served with two sauces. One is sweet and one is more of a mayo style. There's also something that eats like a conch curry puff situation. I liked the cracked conch better personally, but both are worth trying. The coconut shrimp is also really good. The sampler also comes with tortilla chips on the side. The lobster bisque is delicious. Great flavor with little chunks of what I'm pretty sure is lobster throughout. Nothing more to add really. It's just good. The mahi and avocado dish has a nice seared taste to it. Not flame broiled exactly, but that kind of grilled sear that you want on fish. The pico de gallo is similar to what came with the ceviche, and it works really well here. All in at $75.
