Both side yards had shrubs, plants, and small trees on the property line. The team was very careful working around them to minimize need to trim. The 2-3 man team worked very efficiently and completed the whole project in less than 3 full days. Worksite was cleaned up at each days' end. He sounded sick. A lot of chest congestion and I didn't feel comfortable being around him. Next day he was in bad shape, needed quite a few rest breaks.I hired him to replace pergola and deck boards, power wash and stain. Missed some areas of the pergola with the power wash and asked about any other boards that needed replacement. He didn't act on that. Power wash on pergola was inadequate and left a lot of paint chips coming off on the deck. Anything above the estimate on the deck, The charge was a little excessive. Asked about sanding, he kept on evading the subject and just carried on with the staining. Didn't really give me a choice of stain. Says he uses brown on older decks. Not happy with the color.Noticed an additional board on the pergola that needed replacing after payment and asked if he would come back for that. Again, evading the issue. Finally told me he was not going to come back. I found his work to be inadequate at best. I'm sorry I hired him for my job and need to hire somebody else to address the issues.

I chose S&J and within a few days, I had a date for installation of my fence (with 3 different heights) and two gates. This was all going to be done in one day (and it was a blistering hot day too!). The crew arrived on time and immediately began work on demolishing the old fence and then digging posts and construction of the new fence. It took all day, but by 5pm they were finished! The finished work was very good, they did not seem to cut any corners and really took the time to do things right. When it was adjusted, it left screw holes in the wood that I filled in with wood filler, but it doesn't match the wood, so it looks bad. Also, the wood has split. When it was installed, there was a huge space between the gate itself and the post the lock was supposed to fit into so they came a piece of wood was screwed onto the front post to cover the gap. Lastly, one of the slats in the fence has loosened and sank, but I can fix that myself. The gate was a really poor piece together job and I will have to find a carpenter to build a new one. Crew and owner were very nice. I am really late in giving this review because I wanted to see how long this fence would hold up. Now, you can see.
