Being a new single mom finding somewhere you feel safe/clean/affordable and you can make a home now and days are BEYOND difficult..moving here was a perfect choice! They are quick and very detailed with everything! I love being able to send a quick email when I need something I don't always have time to sit on the phone however I can send emails at any time of the night and not get lost in the madness everyone knows emails can be. Everyone I have ran into are nice including maintenance! I'm convinced that Garfield Commons has to be one of the worst places to live in Macomb County. First off, one of the MAIN reasons is the office manager Sarah Ashton-Morris. She is unprofessional, dismissive, passive aggressive and off putting. Garfield Commons top priority is collecting rent while any concerns of good tenants they pay rent on time monthly, with no complaints have issues completely IGNORED. Despite the lovely online photos and cozy rental office, Garfield Commons feels more like subsidized housing. DO NOT consider them otherwise you will have renters remorse and again any issues you have will be met with a condescending attitude from office manager Sarah Ashton-Morris. You have been warned. Hi, my husband and I been here for years. It's a nice place to live. They do wonderful things for the holidays and in the summer they will have a nice pool party. The only problems I did not like was the residents greedy behind quickly ate All the food. I just wished they could had played a variety of music at the pool party. They only played Hispanic's music the entire time. It was still nice. The residents will leave their open beverages on the table and there were bees everywhere. I have a phobia when it come to bees. I'm wheelchair bound. So i had ti wait on my husband and son to pick me up from the pool party. You might have some loud residents playing music sometime. I really like living here. The residents with pets. The leasing office needs to enforce ALL residents with pets to clean up after their pets. They need doggie bags. You noticed the pet's feces were all over the lawn once the snow melted. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would! This is THE worst place I've ever lived, the only reason we moved here was a last minute decision and we just settled for it because our previous wonderful place was being sold. Management here is constantly changing, people in the office are pretty terrible, and when you call to complain about something they give all kinds of excuses. The TRASH SITUATION IS TERRIBLE!! Whenever people move out they leave behind furniture at the dumpster. The longest I've seen furniture stay piled up has been 3 months until management FINALLY took care of it. They claimed that they have to call their corporate management to get approval to call for special trash pick up because it costs extra. Then they put a note on everyone's door thinking that would help solve the problem and tell them where to put large pieces of furniture to be thrown away, but of course since this place is full of idiots no one is going to listen, so the trash still continues to be a problem and pileup outside the dumpsters. Parking lots are also disgusting. No kind of grounds maintenance...no one comes around and picks up little bits of trash here and there it's disgusting, there will be cigarette butts all over the place or broken bottles it's terrible. Have been given nothing but the run-around for when my repairs to my unit will be done. Sister is a severe asthmatic with medical conditions. The pot holes are absolutely unbearable and nothing is being done. Months and months have gone by when there is literally no way of going around the potholes. Some are 2 feet wide by 2 feet and some are even larger. There are a few that are actual sink holes. I wish I could post photos of how absolutely horrid they are. And there is one ever 10+ ft. My last day is March 31, 2020 and it's not soon enough! One Year Lease! This is literally the WORST complex I have EVER Lived at. They claim to have 24 hour maintenance, however when you call them it just goes to voice mail, and no one comes to fix the issue. My fridge has been broken (it is pumping out HOT AIR inside of the fridge and the freezer!) For almost a month now, and there has been NO update from the office on if or when it will be fixed or replaced. I am constantly charged for random things, NOTHING IS INCLUDED in the rent at all. This place is 100% NOT WORTH the price they are wanting. They draw you in with the "$730" rent but do not advertise that they also charge you for "Administrative Fee". "Trash Fee", "Water Fee", "Water Base Charges", "Sewer", then there is the "Risk Mitigation Fee" and the "LeaseLock Zero Deposit Charge" fee, ontop of rent and what ever other charge they just so happen to decide to put onto your account (Which they do OFTEN). On top of the horrible maintenance, and the horrible office service... The roads and parking lot are completely destroyed and have the deepest potholes I have ever seen in my entire life. If you manage to avoid the potholes, your car is still constantly going to be getting hit when you are parked over night, because the lines in the parking lot are NON EXISTENT. They have limited car ports available, however that is another charge, of $20 per car. No one picks up their dog's poop, and none of the staff go around to clean up the mounds of dog poop around the front, sides, and behind the buildings. Not once have I seen them salt the roads, in anticipation for the Ice weather we had, and it takes them over 24 hours to plow the snow. They also charge you to use the pool, which is never cleaned and is always so overly saturated with chlorine that you can hardly breath when your in the water. The water is also always very thick because of the over use of the chlorine. They charge $20 per person for! The Tennis Courts are dilapidated and over grown with vines and they don't even have the the tennis nets in the court to be able to play! The ground of the courts are also falling apart. All of the Utilities (Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Stove) are extremely outdated (are they from the 90's?!) and often times don't work properly or leak. Online Rent Payment sometimes doesn't work properly and they basically tell you "To Bad" when you call and ask them to adjust or fix the issues. This place is NOT worth the price tag, AT ALL. read more

The only reason they got stars at all is based off of their affordable rent & ability to have washer dryer hooked up... those were the only two things that sold me on living here, and daily I regret it. For one, the location is awful in terms of traffic and then when you finally get in in the complex, (only one way in and out) GOOD LUCK you're either playing chicken with the speeding traffic or dodging unavoidable pot holes to spare your front end; but don't worry you'll hit at least two daily. If you don't come into the office, however, you won't get service. They are understaffed in their office for the amount of foot traffic it receives which leads you to wonder if THAT'S the reason they COMPLETELY DISREGARD ALL PHONE CALLS AND VOICEMAILS regularly. In one instance they had a referral program, I connected a friend, on her account she faxed them all of her info then she never heard back and couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. Super unprofessional. In another instance they were incorrectly charging us totals of $300+ per month for multiple months, PLUS late fees on those incorrect charges, and when I called and left messages my calls 5 days with no return. By then I was googling who owned their company and found a number- that they don't advertise on their sign out front, on the website, or in any correspondences/ cards- and the main office lady answered stating I called the office that's the right number! You'd think if the number was changed surely we'd(as a community) have a way to get in touch with you. We were only offered Xfinity services, but got a letter stating we had to let AT&T come into our homes to do some work?.. I live with one other young lady, so I'd like to have as few strange workmen in my space as possible. As we were given the unit with the whole buildings main water and other access points, with NO knowledge, this happens more so than we'd like with no prior warning. I would lastly like to comment on the management skills, in the last three months our rent has again been wrong, on THEIR error, and I reached out to him/her via the office staff relaying the message, and never got a call back. To this day we have yet to hear from management regarding the multiple errors being made, or being sent a letter regarding failure to pay and possible eviction, again, on their error. I have lived in this complex for 2 years. Let me start by saying their website states that they cover water, trash, and sewage. The first year I lived here, they did. Then I received a bill in the mail for a charge for a percentage of those. THEY DIDNT INFORM US! They just started charging. Second, there is trash all over the complex, the buildings are falling apart on the outside. Bricks falling off, gutters hanging off. It's horrible. Maintenance take FOREVER to respond to a service order. I waiting over a month for someone to fix my garbage disposal. They also say they have a park.. it's a slide with a broken swing that they have never fixed! The pool doesnt open until sometime in June and it's always dirty. Well new management. Nothing's changed. Ppl park in handicapped who are not and don't get two stickers. But when there is not a single parking spot in my entire lot and we park in a covered parking spot we get two stickers. When brought up to mgmt they said I should just buy the reserved spot. No. I should NOT have to purchase a spot to park in order to park even remotely close to my lot. My neighbors are loud music players and I was told they don't have responsibility to that. My bathroom smells like weed from them smoking upstairs. Again I can just call the cops. Management is supposed to be a liaison between tenants. Not the cops! Wtf do they do all day?!?! read more

The first day we moved in we seen several ROACHES running around the living room. We hadn't even brought by any food in yet. It took 3 months of complaining for them to finally treat our apartment for roaches. They recently told us they are no longer treating our apartment because it's not necessary despite seeing roaches DAILY. We have an open case with the department of health and hiring an attorney to break our lease. My 8 month old daughter can't crawl on the floor because of the roaches and I have been hospitalized twice within the 5 months of living here due to my severe asthma attacks I am getting from the roaches. Our apartment is spotless and I bleach and clean daily to try and keep the roaches out but we still see them everyday. Our neighbors are loud and they have at least 5-8+ people living in a 2 bedroom apartment so they don't see very clean at all. They also leave garbage in the parking lot and it looks trashed. read more

My sister has lived here for years - it's HORRIBLE just as the other reviewer said. She can't afford anything else so this dive is it. The maintenance is horrid beyond horrid. Just one example - the upstairs apartment leaked three times onto her apartment and ruined furniture and carpeting. What did they do? They pulled back the carpet, soaked up the water and used fans for 3 days to dry it out. That's it!! No fixing the pipes, no replacing wet moldy carpet, nothing. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! They go up on the rent every year when they told me they would not! I was notified that we would be paying our own water bill so after a few months passed and I did not receive a bill I went to the office to ask why I haven't received it. I was reassured that I would not have to pay for all of the months that passed. I would only start paying in the month that I receive it. Well I checked the mail 2 days ago and guess what! It was billed all the way back from July and the bill was almost 300 bucks. So I tried to call the rental office for 2 days and there was no answer. So I went to the rental office and the door was locked and it wasn't even 5 yet. They don't close until 6. So I looked inside and someone was in there. To make a long story short the African American lady called the police on me because I was knocking on the door. I had my money order and everything to pay the rent and I wanted to ask about the water bill. The officer gave me a case number because the lady that called the police never talked to the officer and left out the back door. We didn't even know she was gone. The officer was annoyed that she called and never came out to talk to him. So I shared that because this place is horrible. The management has changed 3 times since I been here and I been here 3 years. I will not be renewing my lease. I never dealt with such unprofessionalism!!!! I give this place no stars! read more

Where do I begin...? I've been here for a little less than 2 years and absolutely hate the place. I've needed my a/c repaired for 9 weeks now, and of course "I'm at the top of the list" and trust me I've called almost every day. Last year my a/c was out for 5 weeks before they finally came and "fixed it". When I went in to the office to complain the "a/c specialist" was just sitting there with other maintenance workers enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation. The walls are paper thin, I can hear my neighbor on the phone in the morning, and I hear many other things as well. My car has been broken in to twice. There are constantly squads of children running through the streets, I've almost hit an individual many times. I picked this place because of its affordable rent and because no one would allow the type of dog I have unless she was a service dog. Other than that this place is horrible. I love my home that I've made but the complex is what sucks. The craters they have on every corner, that they just cover up with caution cones, blew out one of my tires. The office is unbelievably unfriendly. I had such a great experience when I was giving them my down-payments and first months rent to live there. They were so happy to have me there went out of their way to answer every question I had and now they just let the phone ring and ring until they get tired of hearing it; that's when they pick up the phone and just hang it up. The girl Ashley was my favorite and now she won't even talk to me and the older lady at the desk closer to the door interrupts EVERYTHING, you can't even finish a sentence/question talking to her. The lady in the main office never comes out for anything and maintenance likes to leave a mess when they come into your apartment. They don't even let you know when maintenance or people are coming into YOUR home. They just leave a note when they're done if you couldn't already tell by the garbage they left behind. If my dog would have been there the times they went in she would have hurt someone seeing as though it's not me coming home and I would have gotten blamed. Besides the holes on the roads the complex is filthy. Also after you renew your lease they raise your rent prices without telling you!Like I said I love the home I've built here but you could build a home anywhere else but here. We all do it, get that "first apartment"....and only really know that you want it as cheap as possible. Well Garfield Commons is definitely cheapest in the area. I was only 19....I really didn't know what I wanted or needed in a living space besides "no parents". I rented a simple one bedroom one bath in 2003. That being said, I really wouldn't recommend this place to people who are into their place of residence. The rent is cheap and it is just your typical apartment, nothing special. Older appliances, the typical galley kitchen ending with your table which (of course overlooks into the living room). The maintenance is questionable at times, but hey...you get what you pay for! On the plus side, the bedroom was large with two closets and the unit did feature washer and dryer in the unit as well. Very cramped feeling, no balcony or hallways..but you get what you pay for and in 03, we hardly we paying 500 a month. read more

I have lived here for 5 years. I have gone through multiple property management companies. The first two were very lazy when it came to repairs. I had missing drywall in my front bathroom and storage closet for about 2 months before it was finally fixed. Fast forward to now. I have had problems with my water heater since Oct., it kept shutting off every 3-5 days. Last Sunday had to have on call come to get it working, he did manage to do so and told him my issues, he said I should let the office know so they could get a proper repair company out to fix it for good. Monday it was off again. Left a message with the office via the website and thought they had fixed it correctly, but what they did was got it working and jumped the overheat sensor thinking that was the cause, it was not. Thanksgiving day 2018 the water heater shut down. I waited until Friday to let them know since I didn't want to ruin Thanksgiving for anyone. Repair guy came and said they have to get a company out but it won't be until Monday. So, No Hot water until then. SMH. If they had gotten the right person out, I wouldn't have to be dealing with this. read more

Maintenace is lazy, management is lazy and disrespectful especially Erin and Misty ...listen to my words don't make the same mistake I did. They say it a smoke free apartments but the tenants and staff smoke and throw the cigarettes on the grounds and the grounds keeper never cleans it up. People are selling drugs to the management. I can't wait until my lease is up. I will never rent from Brookline or Shepario Management.. No Results from them at all.... The only thing they care about is the money not their tenets...mold, led paint, old windows, old doors, old appliances and furnace means high utility bills, water backs up, the cement stairs are lose and cracked and will not be fixed. DO NOT MOVE IN HERE!!!!!! To begin, we were told that we would get a wall painted in one of two colors for free before we moved in. However, there was no color and they never came back to paint either. Second, my husband bought a parking space under the car port and the next morning, while parked in his parking spot that he just paid for, they decided to place a big sticker on the driver side window that stated he wasn't authorized to park there....in his parking spot! Next, the maintenance people have to be called out several times to come fix something in your apartment. Lastly, I can hear critters scratching one of the walls in my bedroom. I called management and they had exterminators come out. For a while the noise went away but they came back and now I hear them all over the room!! Imagine feeling like at any moment a squirrel or raccoon or whatever will be snuggled up with you in your bed. Always trust the reviews, I read bad reviews about this place and still moved in.
