This is a true mom & pop shop liquor store in the area and although the selection is admittedly not the largest, it does the job for every day needs and then some. I live nearby, so frequent this place fairly often. I totally understand some people's gripes, frustrations re the hours, and low-rated reviews as a result since I too have had an instance where I went and they were closed during posted opening hours. HOWEVER, LARRY (yes with an L, and not a G [Fun Fact: Garry is Larry's son]) is a true, quintessential NY business owner in the best ways. He doesn't try to push anything, upsell, etc but he rarely has other staff support.. usually it's just him which also why I love to support what I feel is a true mom &pop shop He is ALWAYS there and is ALWAYS more than happy to provide recommendations at a price point you are comfortable with, without ever making you feel pressured , which I feel like in this day in age is almost priceless. I feel like he embodies the NY mentality to the core in that he's consistent, hard working and CAN seem cold or dismissive but that couldn't be further from the truth. If you took the time to read through this whole thing, please pay him a visit. AGAIN, you wont find the most artisanal or largest selection, but you will find something to fulfill your needs all while supporting a stellar small business. read more

Awful. Called ahead to let them know I was on my way (15 minutes before the store closes) - they said no problem, open till midnight. Arrive at 11:54pm (mind you, its a SATURDAY) and they are locking up. Told them that I needed to grab just one thing - they proceeded to lock the doors. It's Garry's with two R's! They look like they have a good wine section, but I was looking for some hardcore booze. All the liquor is located behind the bar, which is kind of annoying. They have a decent selection, but nothing out of the ordinary. They don't have anything non-alcoholic that you would need for your cocktail bar either. A little pricier than the bulletproof glass liquor store on 4th, but a better experience, I suppose. read more

I constantly walk past this location while coming to and from the train station. I finally decided to give them a try. Boy do they know their wine!! There are dozens of sections of wine by region. Wines from South Africa, Italy, California... they've got it all. Honestly, there were too many wines for me to choose from. This is definitely a place to go if you want a bottle for a special occasion, or if you're simply a wine lover. This establishment isn't ideal for buying hard alcohol as they primarily focus on wine. read more

Garry's is organized really well and has a great selection of wines in the ~$15 and under range, which isn't always easy to find. Everything we've tried from there has been great, too. Plus, the owner (not sure if he's Garry or not) is great. He seems a little bit gruff at first, but one time we stopped in on the way home from the vet across the street with our kitty in a carrier, and he was really sweet, asking questions about her and not getting at all mad that someone brought a cat into his wine shop. read more

I went in here for Belvedere Vodka, which they did not have. I ask if they had something just as smooth as what I requested.... being a novice to Russian Vodka, I foolishly bought what the store clerk suggested based off of what I requested..... this man sold me BELUGA!!!! BE----FREAKING LUGA!!! This is like swallowing fire!!!!!!! I literally described Belvedere as "it's like drinking water". His water must have something extra in it?! Like HELL!! This place is the best. I just moved, and I'm realizing how good I had it. They have a great selection, are well organized, and the prices are solid. The owner works there most nights and is great. They are open late every night, except on Sundays, so plan ahead. If you are in the area, definitely go to Garry's. read more

This place is not on Flatbush anymore but right next to Barn (Farm). They have good selection for my budget (under $20 a bottle.) They will also deliver for free to your place. I went in the other day and the wife was watching the store. It's the first time I have seen her there. She was a really nice Russian lady. She recommended a bunch of bottles that turned out great. She also gave me 10% for buying 6 bottles. When the lady is not there, tough luck getting a recommendation. I usually just go in and pick what I have already tried. I don't remember their hours of operation. But whenever I need to buy wine, they're always open. read more

Very big fan. The guys who work here are unfailingly helpful and have great customer service in spite of being a little brusque. In this neighborhood it's good to have a reliable and friendly wine store that's well stocked and no-nonsense. It's also among the cleanest wine stores I've been in so I'm always glad to return to it. read more

This place has a dedicated section for wines from Portugal. Not Spain/Portugal, just Portugal. And not like some ports only - ports, vinho verde, Alentejo, etc. So this is the only place I buy wine now. read more

First off, they moved location to 80 St. Marks Ave (next to Flatbush Farm) and they fancied up the place. However, the last time I went in for some white rum, they didn't have any and acted like I was crazy because I wanted regular, un-spiced rum. How can you call yourself a liquor store without carrying normal rum?! Awful, just awful. Gary's new location replaced a dirty filthy Chinese restaurant and I wish that restaurant would come back. read more

Garry's is just a solid local wine store. It's not fancy, but they have a nice selection and Lenny, the proprietor of the store, will make a very good recommendation based on your price range. And he won't look at you sideways if you're price range is, "ehhh, about $15." read more

Bought an expensive bottle of wine here last December as a gift for my future daughter in laws mother. Opened a month later and it was bad. Returned and replaced but when second bottle was opened last week with a rotting cork they are telling me it's because the cork was not opened right and the wine tastes fine. The wine is the color of orange and smells bad. Will not buy here again and challenging the charge with American Express. Stay tuned for updates read more

I adore this shop and its owners, a lovely family. Prices are fair, and while you aren't going to find that rare/prized bottle of wine, there's definitely something for everyone, for every budget. They are super sweet to my young kid, always giving her special treats and talking with her. As a wine lover, I've frequented every shop in the area, but Gerry's is my favorite for good service (i.e. not snooty like a lot of wine shops around here), good prices, and good wine! read more

Very poor customer service and sexist owner. My husband and I have regularly purchased wine here for over a year. Today we got home with our bottle and the wine was corked. The tell-tale signs were there: crumbling cork (tried two different openers) and a faint vinegary smell through the broken cork. When I went back to Gary's to return the wine, I smiled at the owner (who had helped us 20 mins earlier and knows my husband well), showed him the top of the bottle, and said, "Hi, Unfortunately this cork seems to be bad." He immediately replied, with a mocking smirk, "No. Your opener is bad." He attempted to open the bottle himself, rolling his eyes and mumbling under his breath. After trying unsuccessfully for 5 minutes---leaving crumbled cork all over the counter---he walked over and picked up another bottle of wine, walked back to the counter and said, in an irritated and condescending tone, "I will open this one." I took the wine before he could open it and left. Because it was clear to me he would not treat me with any respect, my husband went back to confront him about his customer service. His first response? "I know how wives can be. My wife is like that sometimes too." Don't support this guy. There are too many other wine stores in the neighborhood and this old-school sexist nonsense is absurd. read more
