While we have no other work planned as of now, we would use Gary Duff Designs again without reservation. The men who worked on our project are true artisans. They took amazing care of our yard and the project area. If you looked at our yard now, other than the work they completed, you would never know that we had a major project completed today. gary duff received alot of money from us and he did not do a good job-within one month we called him back to show him the issues- he didn't resolve them he was arrogant instead of humble-our pavers were not set right, we have drainage issues that caused damage to our hot tub and there were no drains put in on our patio we are quoted $12000 to fix the mess he left behind they are not a good company to do business with read more

Gary is only good at selling a job .. his workmanship is equivalent to a toddler finger painting and calling it a Picasso .. all the stones are falling off my house , with water coming through his stone work into my basement . my back yard had to be regraded .. the water was ankle deep in the grass .. the pavers are sinking and lifting up . the stone on the stoop is cracked and uneven ,, save your money and make sure you research who you hire to do work , before spending over $100,000 .. the work he did is not even 10 years old . read more

Terrible experience. They built an outdoor bbq Island without safety ventilation. No apology. No self accountability. They built a fire pit with huge gaps in the cinder blocks that needed to be destroyed and rebuilt. It was their first time it seemed. They dragged dirt from rear yard to front yard and attempted to leave the huge pile on my front lawn. During this dirt drag dirt fell into my outdoor stair well and clogged my drain well. That night it rained and a mud filled my basement finished floor. No apology or self accountability. They laid patio brick knowing it would rain and prevent proper sealing of the sand. To this day it still isn't right. They poured a concrete basketball court slab with cheap mix or again just before rain and so a year later we still have tremendous dust on the court. On the outdoor bbq island it wasn't built level. And then they bailed out on getting the granite counter. I needed to do it and during installation it was found the island to be 1-2" off level. Tons of caulking was needed to level the granite (Gary no where to be found). Two accent pillars weren't level and the caps are stained and left that way by Gary and Adam. They built a retaining wall seat without gluing the seating caps They cut bricks for the patio without covering my deck. The result was a thick coat of dust settled on the deck, which they didn't clean, they just walked away. It took a good month to clean it. In summary, a total train wreck led by Gary Duffs ego. Once he gets checks his interest fades. When all concerns of their malpractice was brought to Gary's attention it was met with hostility and offense that he's being questioned. It escalated to the point where he got in my face in an aggressive stance (on my property) in front of my family. Gary's son Adam tried to finish the job but he's a weak shadow of his domineering father. Gary himself is a dim bulb who is way past his prime and not interested in your home, he's only interested in getting revenue to keep his farce afloat. read more

I was hiring Gary Duff to redesign my backyard. The only restriction given to him is that design would not require the removal of any trees. I paid him $3000 for the drawings. When I mapped the drawings out in the backyard two large trees were right in the middle of the design. He never answered any of my emails and never returned a dime of the $3000. read more

I am writing this review because Gary duff seems like a great guy when you meet him and his portfolio of work is quite beautiful. However if you have a problem you will be given the run around and find out who Gary Duff really is. I hired him back in 2009 to finish my backyard. I spent 118,000 dollars with him so this was a sizeable job. One of the things he did was install a pool slide for me that was underground. He ordered the parts and installed the slide. The only input that I had was that I wanted the slide buried which it really isn't it is on a hill and covered with dirt and plants. When you go down the slide you kind of stop at the bottom instead of flying out into the pool. I mentioned to gary and he told me there was not enough water flow even though I had a 2hp pump. Instead of installing a bigger pump he cut in 2 more water jets into the slide for more volume of water somewhere in the middle of the slide. It really did not improve but at that point the slide was starting to cave in. I called gary and he told me my kids must be walking on it and it was not his or the slide manufacturers problem. I notice a rock on top of where the slide was buckling turns out he placed a 600 pound moss rock on top of the slide. it was buried so I did not realize how big it was. He uncovered the slide so the sun could heat the plastic and the slide would go back to its original shape and it did. No one ever came back to re cover up the slide. Now back to the water volume Gary tells me I have to install a larger pump that is the problem. I spend 700 dollars plus labor for a new pump now the water is shooting out of the jets like a fire hose it is actually hurting the kids because it's coming out so hard. Guess what you still get stuck at the bottom of the slide. I had several reputable pool companies look and every one of them said the same thing the pitch on the slide is the problem which when you think about it a slide on a play gym has no water and you slide down it. So I call Gary and say I need you to change the pitch on the slide and first he tells me he be out after Memorial day weekend that comes and goes not even a phone call so I call him and he gives me an attitude and says oh should I drop everything during my busy season for your problem that is three years old. so I said no but a phone call would have been nice and by the way it's been three years because you have been jerking me around please fix my slide. He says okay how much do you want the pitch changed so I can give you an estimate. I emailed him and said why would I have to pay when I had zero input on the slide and it has not worked since you installed it. I have not had any reply from Gary and it has now been three weeks. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and figured maybe something happened. I send him another email is everything okay nothing leave him voice mails nothing. How unprofessional he also did work for my neighbor who spent 80,000 with him so I asked him about his job he told me he gave him a punch list of open items and Gary said he was too busy to finish the 1500 dollar balance he had outstanding should cover the work. Not really it was more like 5000 dollars and why wouldn't you finish your work. Now my other neighbor spent 500,000 dollars that gary did and I have seen him them plenty of times repairing things. so I guess if he wants to use your job to get other work he will come back but I felt obligated to write this because he is 100% wrong and just blew me off. The slide was 5600 dollars just for the parts labor was an additional 5000 dollars this is like the main cool feature of my pool and it doesn't work. Beware because when you meet him he is very nice and personable and you would never think he would be that guy but he is. read more

Had two paver step areas done and extensive pool patio work in addition to a new waterfall and tree plantings done by Gary Duff around my pool. The waterfall was useless after 3 years due to the side rocks not set properly and separating away from the structure. For the last 8 years, whenever the waterfall is first turned on while opening the pool, water and mud flow into the pool from lack of containment. The pool patio pavers are sinking although Gary guaranteed this would not happen since he would strategically place sonotubes (filled with concrete) to hold the entire structure up and in place. Never placed any tubes. My stairs are falling apart (seperating) at the ends and are also sinking into the ground. Very unprofessional, does not returns calls (I gave up years ago). But every time I look at my backyard, I get upset of how ripped off I was. Now I'm looking to have the whole job redone the right way at additional $$$$. Worked with Gary Duff Designs on a backyard project last fall after damage from Superstorm Sandy devastated our yard. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
