Going in, I had a lot of anxiety as I knew how difficult the recovery from hemorrhoid surgeries could be. I decided to seek out Dr Chung as my surgeon in hopes of a smoother recovery. He provided detailed pre-op and post-op instructions which eased my anxiety a bit. I also like that he uses fancy stuff like laser, botox, and Exparel to aid in the recovery. By all accounts my surgery was successful. Nevertheless, as my luck would have it, I ended up having complications and subsequently had a really difficult months-long recovery. During that time, Dr Chung regularly checked in on me and provided professional guidance on when to get labs, when to start antibiotics, or when to seek additional medical advice. He was knowledgeable and empathetic towards my struggles. He also filled out my SDI application/extension and work accommodation without hesitation. During my times of need, having a surgeon that is easily reachable by phone was beyond helpful. Dr Chung doesn't take insurance and his fees can be a bit steep. However, if you have the means, I highly recommend him as he is truly an outstanding colorectal surgeon who puts a lot of care into his patients.

Seven months after surgery, I feel ready to share my full experience and reflect on this journey…read more Over those seven months, Dr. Chung saw me a total of seven times, with countless text messages in between. He was always responsive, patient, and reassuring. I will never forget that he even saw me the day before Thanksgiving, bringing his young boys along because he had no childcare. That moment showed me the kind of person he is. Most of my appointments were on Saturday evenings, the only time my husband could drive me. I still remember pulling up to his clinic, a clean, safe, quiet building, with his car often the only one in the parking lot. Despite the late hours, he never once rushed an appointment. I always felt fully cared for. By the end of this process, I truly believe he saved me from what could have been a very dangerous situation had I followed the original surgical plan in my home state. Dr. Chung is warm, knowledgeable, deeply empathetic, and kind. When he says his services are a flat fee, he truly means it. There were no surprise charges, no added fees at any point in the process, and no pressure. I never felt neglected or forgotten. What stands out most now, looking back after 7 months, is not just the care I received in the moment, but the way he guided my healing over time. He never rushed the process or pushed me toward timelines that did not feel right for my body. My recovery was based on how my body healed, not dictated by insurance timelines. If you are hesitant about paying out of pocket, ask yourself what your health and your life are worth. Today, I can say I am completely healed, and that outcome means everything. I am incredibly grateful.

I was referred to Dr zaghiyan - I called the office to make an appointment and her receptionist said I was sent to collections so they can't see me (I have 825 credit with nothing on record, even went through escrow to buy a house with nothing coming up, so what?? First time I heard of this) Anyways, turns out that wasn't real just a note in my account (I pay my bills) because she's I. The same office as Dr fleshner- they refuse to let me see Dr zaghiyan because she's in the same office as Dr fleshner. I saw Dr fleshner years ago and left because I wasn't comfortable with him. The receptionist - at the time (maybe like 10 years ago) wasn't happy that I said I wasn't comfortable with Dr fleshner. It's fine. That happens. Not every Dr is a fit for every patient. I don't get why they're up in arms about it. I moved on to have surgery with a different and fantastic Dr who is unfortunately out of network now. I asked to please be seen by Dr zaghiyan because I'd prefer to be seen by a female and she was a referral. her receptionist said "you can't see Dr zaghiyan, no one is forcing you to see Dr fleshner you don't have to come here" and straight up hung up the phone. They won't let me see Dr zaghiyan because she's in the same office as Dr fleshner. Literally appalling. I'm bleeding profusely and there is a problem. Patient care should be a priority for these doctors - and if it still is, retrain your staff to have some courtesy.

I had previously chosen another doctor but cancelled after speaking to Dr. Nowain because he was head and shoulders better. He was extremely patient, knowledgeable, and reassuring. He has an excellent bedside manner to go with his skills and credentials. The procedure went perfectly, and the doctor was right next to me when I woke up to discuss the results and share pictures with me. All in all, this was an amazing experience with an excellent doctor and I'm glad I did it. I highly recommend this doctor to everyone else. I have very high standards and I'm extremely picky and Dr. Nowain met and surpassed all my expectations. To everyone over age 40, please get colonoscopies. A 30 minute procedure could save your life. And better yet, get it with Dr. Nowain. The research I did showed he was much more effective at catching cancerous polyps than his contemporaries.

I'm keeping my original review for continuity. This update is to show, using my own documentation,…read morehow biased and prejudicial language in medical notes can permanently distort a patient's credibility and access to care. I count myself lucky I met my new GI doctor, although treatment is complicated now because of my worsening injuries. Over the past four years I've had time to study what happened, review my records, and talk with professionals who helped me understand how the bias in my care took shape. The pain I was in left me cognitively impaired for a long time, which made it hard to see how dismissive the treatment really was while it was happening. Because of the wording used in my chart -- phrases like "patient is convinced" and "very likely psychosomatic" -- it's very likely the kind of language that led other doctors to dismiss my concerns and assume the problem was psychological. My injuries worsened, the connective tissue in my abdomen continued to tear, and I lost muscle support through my torso. A genetic condition was also upregulated and my skin permanently traumatized. That language still follows me through my medical record and continues to influence how I'm treated. Nearly four years later, I'm still trying to recover from my injury and the physical and psychological damage caused by dismissive, biased documentation and the prejudice that began in this office. I'm including Dr. Nowain's original notes, and other records that corroborate both the intense pain I was really in, the celiac artery compression and soft tissue damage, and the continual gaslighting using prejudicial language to dismiss my accounts and leave me in pain and suffering. These are all before the injury worsened. I can still hear Dr. Nowain's voice from that day in his office -- angry, certain: "You're having a panic attack!" When I said I wasn't, he replied, "That sounds just like something someone having a panic attack would say." It still plays in my head like I heard it yesterday. So, I guess there's only one thing left to say. Best of luck in all your health journeys, and remember: "One foot in front of the other, bravely forward. Always."

I'm really confused who is writing positive reviews, maybe people who has better insurance!…read more Because from my personal experience I've been treated not as nicely as reviews say. The overall experience at the doctor office was alright, but the staff who works there probably weren't interested in helping. Doctor was very nice and helpful. But the staff... To get a prescription it's was a total nightmare for me. The receptionist was telling me that she sent the prescription several times , but my pharmacy never received anything and they had to call several times to request it. Long story short eventually I have to request the actual prescription so I can do it myself. I was in pain for a week in a half. Also, doctor said I need to get colonoscopy and that I need to schedule it myself by emailing the doctor or she maybe will contact me myself. I emailed several times to the email that receptionist provided me, no response, I called left two messages , haven't received a call back. I called again a day ago and finally spoke with her. She advised that email is no longer valid ‍ Also she has a waitlist going on and if I don't have cancer it might be take a month or longer during Covid situations , which is understandable. But turn after linger conversation, I found out maybe it will be a week and she hasn't even requested an authorization yet. I asked her why and she said " well it's not urgent " I'm not sure what that means , but I'm in pain for few weeks already and can't even get a medicine either. While writing a review I received a call from receptionist if I want to be on a waitlist for a procedure and if I received the prescription ( that I need to bring myself (9 times walking to a pharmacy)) She said she doesn't know what's been going on , but maybe it's an error on pharmacy end. From my personal experience worth CVS pharmacy in West Hollywood they were pretty amazing about receiving prescription from different doctors for me and never had issues. I think I would trust a pharmacy then a doctor's office. Because it was more errors on their end. Probably after this review they might remove me from a list , but I'm hopeful and hopefully they will keep on the list. I'm not sure if I want to go through this experience again, where staff doesn't really care about patients.
