Likely saved my life... I highly recommend this very thorough, knowledgeable, no-nonsense doctor. Dr. Lavian ordered a lot of labs and imaging tests and prescribed medication after tailoring it to my preferences (I refuse to take a certain type of medication but he found an alternative that I'm fine with). The day after I got my MRI and CT scans done, I received an unexpected phone call from dr. Lavian's office. They insisted I come to his office the same day to discuss the imaging results. At first I turned them down because I didn't really have a way to get to Encino before the end of the business hours (which was three hours away), and besides I had an appointment with dr. Lavian already scheduled approximately three weeks later. Five minutes later they called back and said the doctor absolutely insists I come in right away to discuss the imaging results from the previous day. I did go. What I learned that day at dr. Lavian's office is that I had a non-neurological but potentially life threatening condition. Dr. Lavian became aware of it because the CT technician captured it in the scan even though it was a bit outside of the area that dr. Lavian had requested the scan for. Dr. Lavian immediately put in an urgent referral to a vascular surgeon and told me to retrieve the authorization the next morning and schedule an appointment without delay. He also reiterated the importance of adhering to the medication he had prescribed, and ordered more labs to be done prior to the follow up appointment. So, yes, this doctor is very busy and has a wait room full of patients every time... (Frankly, I'd be worried if the wait room was empty!) Yes, there is a wait at every appointment. But the doctor does a very good job and clearly cares about his patients. Dr. Lavian was professional and polite every time I interacted with him. Most importantly, he's been doing a great job as my doctor. I'll end by sharing what I heard from my primary care doctor. She said that from the ample feedback she receives about dr. Lavian she concluded that he wants the best for his patients. I couldn't agree more. read more

I actually love Dr. Pouya Lavian! He is extremely brilliant at what he does and also, unlike other drs, is comprehensive and shares information and discoveries outside of neurology. I think he is amazing!! What is NOT amazing is the immature, unprofessional, unexperienced and incompetent staff with control issues, as they chronically miscommunicate, do not follow up and order the approach tests that the doctor requests, charges for appointment that makes no sense because the labs are not done, due to the staff being incompetency. They also do not seem to understand how to use text, email or voicemail. It's VERY antiquated!!! These children lack compassion and understanding that their foul actions can affect peoples health. However, they clearly do not care and behave despicably!!!! I've read several other people have had this same experience and spoke to other patients in the office that also experienced the front desk's incompetency. Dr Pouya Lavian is a very knowledgeable neurologist and also straightforward and honest when he realized my condition was out of his scope. The staff were polite and helpful. Only 3 stars because: * The office is super small and always packed because the doctor only see his Medi-Cal patients once a week and only in that office. * The parking situation was awful. To find street parking is a hassle and the patient parking by the building is exploitative. read more

While I think that Dr. Latvian is a great doctor, I think his clinic is not designed for taking patients in. Patients are pushed into a 10x10 room with hardly enough space to check in and walk into the actual clinic. Always too many people in the waiting room, spilling into the hallway. I had an appointment and that morning I woke up very congested so I called to cancel the appointment. And Dr. Lavian refused to re-schedule me so he passed the buck and pushed me off to another neurologist, and as luck would have it was my first neurologist I saw when I was diagnosed with MS. At my appt, the front desk was having conversations with patients that should have been had in private, according to hipaa. Labs were ordered to quest for me and when I arrived to have labs done, I was told the orders were entered with invalid codes so none would be covered by insurance. I have been calling the office for 3 days, with no one picking up the phone for over 30 minutes, so I gave up. The entire experience was so frustrating and dehumanizing. Don't recommend it at all!!!! First of all they scheduled the appointment on September 26. THEY CANCELED IT ON THE DAY OF APPOINTMENT!!!! After calling them several times they finally found a spot on November 12. I had an appointment at 10:30am, I spent 2 hours just waiting, so I saw the doctor around 12:30pm. This offer feels like an insurance scam. I had tests done in 2024 and was told all through 2025 that the results still were not available (including over a year later). The office consistently booked appointments for me without my consent, assuming to bill insurance for the appointments. Words cannot express the treatment that Dr. Pouya, gives. He's a Neurologist, I went to him for one problem and ended up being referred to an oncologist. Dr. Pouya, takes his oath SERIOUSLY! He's the third doctor, I've encountered that I trust ....I've dismissed my primary drs several times, they just didn't hear my concern, Dr. Pouya, truly loves what he does and I'm so glad that he was referred to me. He goes beyond just the routine checks (basic office visits), every office visit you have to have lab done prior...and he goes over everything. The only downside is the waiting room is small. Started with Dr.Lavian almost 9 years ago, maybe 10, in the Century City office. His Encino office front desk staff is extremely rude!!! I am now in search of a new Dr. because his staff is NOT giving him his patients Extremely important messages! I've had a close episode called them and NEVER heard back from them!! Been calling the last week & a half to try to see him because I need a refill on my seizure medication and NEVER received a call back!! He as a Dr. I recommend, but not his office or staff!! What a complete waste of time. I was referred to Dr. Lavian by my GP. I got to Dr. Lavian 20 minutes early. 40 minutes later I went up to the front desk and asked when I would get in to see the doctor. She apologized and said that they were very busy (in other words, they overbooked) and she couldn't tell me when I would be able to see the doctor. WHAT NERVE!!!! I waited over a month for this appointment, and to be treated this shabbily is really disgusting. So I immediately cancelled my appointment and the nurse asked me if I wanted to reschedule?????? How much confidence could any patient have in a doctor that would treat them so badly. My experience with Dr. Lavian has been great. He has been direct, nice, and very understanding. He has been my doctor for years and honestly probably one of the best neurologist I have seen. His current office staff/receptionists are extremely unprofessional, rude, and very disorganized. The young man is the worse of the staff. He ALWAYS has an attitude and is extremely rude. He neglected to send me my medical records even though I filled out multiple medical request. The young women are just very rude and unprofessional. The way they speak to patients including myself is terrible. It's upsetting especially since I pay quite a bit to see him and have to deal with that. I came in dealing with brain trauma recovery from a major accident. Dr.LAVIAN POUYA did not make me feel like he cared sincerely about the intense trauma and surgeries my head underwent. The best he could do is offer me depression medication. I'm not dealing with that much depression to begin with. The office promised me a phone call that was supposed to come in two hours after my visit and I did not receive that phone call. This is the worst place in the world to visit! They have faulty equipment and couldn't take my blood pressure correctly. It took over ten attempts, which gave me a headache, so I decided to leave because they insisted on continuing to take my blood pressure. I've had nothing but empathy from Dr Lavian but most importantly after I've been seizure free for over a year and that's the longest time I've been seizure free in over 30 years. Made an appointment as a new patient. Front desk did not schedule the appointment until all insurance information was provided which totally makes sense. Upon the actual visit, receptionist mentioned that they do not accept one of the insurances and we have to pay for the portion of the visit " co pay" . As a reminder once it comes to medical insurance there is no such a thing as a co pay. This is literally fraud! Second if you refuse to make an appointment unless the insurance information has been provided didn't you know from the first place that you were not in contract with medical? Also receptionist mentioned we will ask the doctor to see if he can wave the co pay! Again, if it is a co pay waving it, is a fraud! Absolutely bad experience and waste of time. Horrible!!! I have seen the Dr. 2 times they know my medication for Parkinson and could not send the prescription to my pharmacy. And for the MRI I have waited for 4 months and they haven't be able to send the information to the right radiologis. Dr. Lavian saved my life! I came to Dr. Lavian with a headaches, vision and memory issues. He correctly recognized my condition and immediately sent me for an MRI. After receiving the MRI results he set up an appointment with me the next morning, went over the results and set up an appointment with the head of neurosurgery at UCLA. The next day I was permitted to UCLA and in two days had a surgery to treat the brain aneurism. Dr. Lavian's quick and correct actions saved my life, he is a person who cares about his patients and will go the extra miles to provide all the necessary help for the best results. I started seeing this doctor in 2019. I was diagnosed with a neurological condition called transverse myelitis in 2009 that affected my gait(walking). It's similar to M.S. except it's in the spinal cord and not the Brain. Needless to say I did a gait study at John Hopkins in Baltimore where there are real Neurologists who are not just trying to money grab and my diagnosis was confirmed. This irresponsible doctor recommended me to have a surgery to remove scar tissue from a area that was autoimmune saying that if I have the spinal surgery it may help me walk better. In other words it was like recommending a M.S. paient to have surgery in the are of M.S. saying it will help you walk. Not being a doctor and wanting to walk better he refers me to his friend Dr. Javahery who's part of his medical network I later learned after the fact that this doctor has had multiple lawsuits, one which involves death and now mine. The surgery caused my gait to decline even more and as a so-called neurological specialist, he should have known that this surgery would cause more harm than good. Before this surgery, I was walking unassisted and since I've had the surgery I've had to use a cane a Walker and has been fitted for prosthesis. This doctor is an idiot who doesn't care about his Patients only about sharing insurance money for false recommendations. Based on my personal experience dealing with this doctor I would not trust him. Go somewhere else. read more

Worst place ever! The receptionist were all late to open, including the doctor! Was the first appointment of the day and they were all late, had to wait 1 hour to be seen and be rushed out of there. Receptionist were scrambling to figure out how to schedule follow ups and unable to remember to ask for pharmacy information. My first visit to Dr. Lavian's office was marked by extremely long wait times, and an overcrowded waiting room. Standing room only for patients is ridiculous. Clearly he was overbooked and unable to give each patient the attention they deserve. I've rated them 2 stars only because they helped me work out a discount while between insurance while I switched jobs. I received very conflicting advice from the Dr. in a very quick appointment after a rudimentary consultation. I didn't feel like I was heard and my concerns addressed. I was given orders to get an MRI of my brain. That's all fine but when I called to ask about results- it took 4 calls and two voicemails just to get someone on the line. It took another day and a half for the Dr. to call me back with my results. He didn't see anything abnormal but offered nothing in detail and no further treatment, advice or options other than when asked- to make another appointment... he doesn't seem like he cares and he seems overworked and overbooked. Dr. Lavian Pouya has been like an angel to me. He has run so many tests for me like no other doctor has. I have seen so many doctors and nobody wanted to help me, stating that I don't have anything. I got stuck with pain management by recommendation of my good for nothing neurosurgeon that told me, "You don't have anything I can do surgery on."
