Our daughter started with a palate expander over 3 years ago, she's had baby teeth pulled and 2 years ago had surgery to expose teeth impacted in the roof of her mouth. One year ago she noticed that the last emerging tooth felt reversed/backwards. She felt it was smooth and round on the inside. Dr. Girgis DISMISSED HER CONCERNS and told her she was wrong. He offered her no explanation and NEVER EVEN MENTIONED the issue to us. Now, with the tooth almost in position, the bracket is not glued to the outside of the tooth! My daughter was right that the tooth is FLIPPED BACKWARDS! It could have been rotated over the year as it's been slowly pulled into position if Dr. Girgis had listened to her and considered that he might have made a mistake. How could he not have seen that?! We confronted him about this, after our dentist confirmed it, and he was very angry at us and said we were all wrong. He even said about our 15 yo daughter, "SHE'S A CHILD. SHE DOESN'TKNOW ANYTHING." Then he offered (or threatened) to pull the bracket off her tooth to prove he was right. We refused because he was angry and she was scared. So he said there was nothing he could do and we should seek treatment elsewhere if that's how we felt. He stormed out of the room, leaving the three of us, the tech, and another patient and tech nearby speechless. The office manager was called and Dr. Ito stepped it. They handled things as best they could, and Dr. Ito mentioned that the tooth was rotated. He didn't know that Dr. Girgis had NEVER SAID ANYTHING to us about it, so Dr. Ito's explanation was not very clear and we still don't know for sure what he would do to fix it. He did say it would take another 6-8 months, when Girgis said the braces would be off in 2-3. So maybe Girgis was going to stop with a backwards tooth? I don't know, but we've long since paid this office, so what do we do?

I was very surprised to find that a 20+ years old filling fell out while flossing on a Saturday night. I felt the small hole in my tooth and immediately started to panic. I had this fear that the entire tooth would fall out and quickly turned to Yelp to find any dentist in the area that would be open on a Sunday. That was when I came across positive reviews for Dr. Baek at Healthy Smile Dental. Their operational hours listed was 9:00AM-3:00 on Sundays so I called at 9:01 pleading to seen. The receptionist was very kind and was able to fit me in at 10:30AM so I quickly rushed over there. They had me seated and took x-rays to show if there was any nerve damage. Dr Baek explained that there was a possibility of another filling falling out since the tooth wasn't as strong from prior fillings and the tooth next to it had a small fracture in a filling. Rather than just patching the problem up temporarily, she gave me a permanent solution that would still save my teeth from potential nerve damage and having to get a root canal down the road. She discussed getting a temporary crown and the process. Throughout the procedure she made sure to check on me and we made a follow up appointment for 3 weeks to complete the procedure. So grateful for a knowledgeable dentist that is open on Sundays!

The explanation of the treatment plan, expected length of time the braces would be on, symptoms to expect, and how to prevent problems were very clear. It was easy for the teenager and I to stay on the same page, and there were no unexpected problems. We had an insurance change midway through the treatment, and the office corrected the information and got the right bills to the right places seamlessly. We paid monthly, so the treatment was affordable. Appointment scheduling was easy and convenient, and they have evening hours so my daughter was able to go on her own after school. I left a couple voicemails during the two year process, and got replies the next business day. As the date neared to have her braces removed, we got a call that a slot opened, so she got her braces removed ten days ahead of schedule. Every person at the office was professional and good at listening. Lastly, the celebratory bag of popcorn and sticky candy, and other things she couldn't eat with braces, presented to her the day her braces were removed was a pleasant surprise. She was totally compliant for over two years, so I held my nose and let her go wild with it.

The transformation he underwent during this time was monumental. Our son's jaws and gumline did not develop at the pace required to accommodate his larger permanent teeth that pushed through when he was 8 and 10. Due to the overcrowding, his teeth, on both upper and lower jaws, were twisted and jagged and rendered them practically useless in cutting and chewing food. When he bit into any crunchy (e.g. apples, crackers) or chewey food (e.g. chicken, turkey, steak) the food bits would push down on to his gumline and hurt him. He would resort to breaking such foods into smaller pieces with his hands and use his molars to grind them before swallowing. Considering what we started with, you can see what a transformation it has been. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Meena or her competent staff. I called her office and scheduled the preliminary appointment; during that session Dr. Meena made a few observations, explained the treatment plan, took a mold for the first set of braces, and took a few pictures of my son's mouth for a record of what she was going to start with. At the same time, her office manager (Blanca) explained the coverages under my dental plan, how billing/claims would work, and helped schedule the first appointment for attaching the braces. Once the braces were in, Dr. Meena explained the care he would need to take, daily, to keep food out of the braces and also recommended he avoid certain types of candy and gum for at least a year. We were also required to check-in every 6-8 weeks to assess progress, make necessary adjustments (incl. replacing/upgrading the wires/rubber-bands to increase tension and allow the teeth to align). However, there were a couple instances where not sticking to the regimen (e.g. forgetting to use the rubber-bands) shifted the teeth in a direction that required additional correction. To Dr. Meena's credit, she explained that this is a very common oversight by pre-teens but once they understand the consequence, the required discipline sets in. There were a couple more instances where the brackets that held the wire dislodged from the tooth. This was also expected and was addressed via drop-in session to afix the bracket(s) back to the tooth/teeth. The entire experience was very pleasant for our son and Dr. Meena and her staff made this process as comfortable as possible for him; I will be returning in a year for my daughter's need as well. I recommend her practice to anyone considering orthodontics for their children.

She is one of the rudest people I have ever met, swore at me multiple times over not wanting to wait for her to print my retainer for an hour. I offered to come back and pick it up and her assistants set up an appontment for the next day but she told me "she is my doctor and what she wants is more important than anything else i have going on and she has final say" and made me sit and wait or she would call the cops on me because my insistance on returning to pick it up was "threatening" even though i asked nicely and explained why i couldn't. I never threatened anyone with anything other than a bad review. Because they had just offered me a starbucks giftcard to leave a good review then revoked their offer after the whole ordeal i had to change my review. she ended up calling the police to tresspass me after holding me hostage for an hour and popping up in my face every 5 minutes to taunt me about not paying me for my review, how shes going to reply to my review with a "story" to get people to ignore my review, and more threats. she said shes had to do that to other patients in the past and the officers are familiar with her practice - its no suprise shes the common demoninator and uses the police as a weapon to manipulate people. I was going to leave out some details. But given her actions I'm going to list my other grievances anyway. U should know how the front desk will call u over 6 times a day to confirm an appointment even if ur busy and ask them to stop calling multiple times. They tried to refund me the incorrect amount of money after refusing to do services that was agreed upon when I joined their practice and tried insisting on holding onto my money until my last appointment for no reason other than shes "terribly busy". They held my mouth hostage and refused to take off the braces until every last payment was made even though the braces themselves were paid off. i had other treatments in my payment plan that i was paying off too. I thought she would be the best because shes a professor in orthodontics but her bedside manner is scary, manipulative, selfish, and aggressive. She should not be working on patients or with students in my opinion. Shes very harsh and barks at adults who are waiting quietly on their phone for her because "having people on their phone during an appointment is distracting and annoying". She is impatient and unwilling to answer any questions u might have about the process or procedure at hand. In fact, she thinks it is insulting to be asked any questions at all about what is happening during an appointment. She demands ur silence, obedience, and full trust without question. She does fine work on teeth, but overall i would've paid 2x to get seen by somebody else.

I love that comparatively the costs are reasonable. Here you are paying for excellent quality work (and not for continual high-end office remodeling jobs like at some places). There's a parking lot adjacent to the office with enough parking for patients. And they've been adhering to safety measures during this pandemic. Thanks for the great work!!
