The star of the show, though, was Lee--he took the time to explain to me how tires work and how to gauge when they are flat (I was very ignorant and feeling overwhelmed!). He helped me think through replacing some other tires that had a low tread and order ones appropriate for the winter. The folks at Discount Tire treated me exceedingly well; they truly care about your safety, and I could not recommend them enough.

They removed my tire, then told me they wouldn't put it back on. Instead, they said I needed to buy a donut spare because "newer cars don't come with one." I explained that my vehicle already has a spare in the back, and I've used it before. They refused to repair the tire, saying it couldn't be patched, and sent me away on the spare. When I got home, I looked at the tire and found a tiny nail in the center tread. The puncture was well under ¼ inch, the tire had never been driven while flat, there was no internal structural damage, and there weren't multiple punctures. Based on those conditions, it met the standard criteria for a repair. To be sure, I took it to Walmart for a second opinion. They patched it in about 30 minutes with no issues. What concerns me most is the safety aspect. If I hadn't known my vehicle had a spare or if this had been someone stranded with young children, they could have been left in an unsafe situation because they were told they had no option except spending over $1,000 plus on new tires. If a tire truly can't be repaired, I completely understand. But in this case, another shop repaired it quickly and safely. Customers deserve honest recommendations based on the condition of their tire, not pressure to make an expensive purchase. Do better.

Ed spent close to an hour reviewing my vehicle history and I appreciated it--he really "geeked out"…read moreon the details in a good way. He comes across as one of the last real mechanics--knowledgeable, thorough, and someone I would have trusted to work on my vehicle. His daughter later called to schedule. She said she was a mechanic. I mentioned Ed had spent a long time with me (as a compliment) and asked a follow-up question about how they'd clear out the engine, noting I had a budget. She said she didn't have enough information, which is fine, but the tone felt closed off. I said, "It doesn't seem like you want to engage in the conversation, and that's okay." She called that rude, I repeated it, and she hung up. I went in person to clear things up because I respected Ed's time. Instead, I was told I had insulted his knowledge--which is completely untrue--and was asked to leave, even after apologizing if anything came across wrong. I respect that Ed let her handle it, but the situation was misrepresented and handled poorly. Unfortunate, because my impression of him was very positive. I did walk away with enough information to pursue next steps, and Elite Auto appears equally equipped, so the time wasn't a complete loss. Based on my experience, I'd keep interactions with her limited to scheduling and work directly with Ed for anything beyond that.

I had a tire blowout and came here the following day to get it replaced…read more I was told that all four tires were pretty worn and it would be a good idea for me to replace all four now rather than later. I figured why not, so I got all four tires replaced, and it was a little more expensive than I thought, but I know eventually I'd have to do it. The two options I was given was about $300 difference and I went with the more expensive tires and the total was about $1248. Changing the tires out, took more longer than what I was originally told. I ended up waiting about two hours but glad I got it done. Everyone at the register was as communicative and friendly as could be. I didn't seem to have a problem except for not wanting to wait in their lobby. But that kind of thing is expected when you're waiting for service at any auto shop. And a nutshell as soon as I drove my truck out of the shop, I noticed how much better it drives because the wheels are nice and firm. And I'm glad I was able to get tires that are better for the Colorado winter weather. So if you're in the area and need a tire replaced, I highly recommend a TWAR.
