I called Gary's to figure out why my pool vacuum was not moving at the pace it was supposed to. I had just purchased it from Gary's 10 months ago so I knew it was under warranty. They sent out their technician and he identified there was a problem with the motor and it needed to be replaced. The issue was the warranty is with Hayward and Dennis explained to me that I would need to contact them for the warranty. Fast forward, I went to pick up my repaired pool cleaner at the store and expressed that it was a little inconvenient for me to contact Hayward for the warranty and that I had purchased the cleaner from Gary's. Dennis, heard and understood what I was saying and told me to not worry about it and take the vacuum. That is not what I expected and really appreciate him taking the time to hear my story. I tried to pay him for his service still but he told me to pay him when I get my warranty settled with Hayward. I was surprised by this level of service and even though I tried to pay him still, he would not take the payment and shut off his computer. My parents have used Gary's Pool Supply as their pool maintenance company for over 25 years and their pool had always looked pristine, until the new ownership took over the business some time in the past several months. There were charges to their account that they could not find or explain and they charged my mother for a filter cleaning (which cost the same amount as her monthly service) and right after they took the money from her account they told her that she needs a new pool pump. Apparently, the pool tech knew the pump wasn't working but did the filter cleaning anyway. It seems a bit shady to tell someone their pool pump is broken AFTER you've charged them for a filter cleaning. Her pool has never looked so awful and it appears the pool has not been maintained in months, but my mother has continued to be charged her monthly fee and she's paid it. I've tried to resolve this issue with the Regional Manager since June 6th with absolutely no resolve, except to be told they are working on a solution. I've asked for the owners contact information and no one at the company has been able (or willing) to provide me with this information. My mother's pool is now a completely green swamp and I'm frustrated that a company she has been so dedicated to using for decades, could treat her with such disregard. I'm very disappointed and feel like she has been taken advantage of since she's elderly and will pay for anything she's told is necessary. Very shameful that the new owners have created such a bad name for a company that had for years prior, treated their customers well. read more

I made an appointment through the new AI assistant and was told my appointment is today, April 1, (April Fools to me), between 8-9. I called at 10 am to see what is happening because calling back and getting the AI assistant I was then told my appoint was changed to 2 - 3 pm. I told them I can't do this time. I was told I would be next on the list. It is now 2:08 I called to cancel the appointment only to be told the repair tech is in the store now. Why not at my house?!? I cancelled and hung up. Time to find a new company. BUYER BEWARE! Way to ruin a company that has been a staple in the Upland community for the 20 years we have used them. read more

So let me say the proof is in the pudding. Daniel has been a saint in helping me with my pool. I've been helping my mom who is 81 years old and had a stroke last year, I love to swim every summer and everyday if I could. Last year we had skipped cleaning pool and filters and I had no idea how anything worked or ran with it so I jumped in with both feet to learn. My mom never knew she just would hire someone to come and clean filters , add chemicals etc. so I wanted to learn what I love so I took this adventure on. It was me running back and forth to Daniel at Gary's with pool water samples, buying bags of products, cleaning the pool filter 2 times and experiencing green hair for a month. I have spent countless time cleaning, brushing, learning and today if you could see the smile on my face when I opened up my pool after I added the last 2 chemicals a few days ago to see the prettiest, clearest, cleanest , sparkling pool I've ever seen at this house in 54 years of living here. It was a dream come true I was beyond happy and proud of myself. Daniel guided me the entire way through this journey and was so PATIENT, NICE, UNDERSTANDING & RELIABLE. Shot out a big THANK YOU to Daniel. He made this experience much more pleasant and easier when I was frustrated or disappointed. I can't say enough about the service I received. Kudos to you Daniel! 1/7/24 Ah yes, the joys & pains or home ownership...maintenance woes.... Hubby was doing a search on pool care places and this is where he landed. He seems to be highly sensitive to the smell of chlorine so I'm his errand girl for this lol. Basically, I'm the one carrying the stuff coz he can't stand the smell. Met the guy, David, nice guy. He was friendly & offered info to get the deal to purchase it by the case-after an X amount you will get a case for free. Hubby was here previously & spoke with another staff & he said he was also forthcoming with answers on what to do to maintain a pool. We were in & outta there in a jiffy, excellent service & great products. read more

Beware !! Since the new company bought out the owners of Gary's Pool Supply they are out to make a quick buck. I went and had a water sample and was told no conditioner present, my phosphates were a 1,000 and my salt content was 3,000 . Do I left went over to Mountain View Pool Supply in Alta Loma and they took my water sample and shared with me that my salt was 3,700 , my conditioner was great and I had 0 phosphates in my water. Just beware that now with Gary's Pool Supply their main goal is not telling the truth and to make money. Never will I step foot into their business again! read more

Communication... Simple Communication could have avoided this review. Imagine trying to ask simple questions concerning time and arrival of pool services via the telephone and instead of a human answering, you get a voice prompt. Press the following numbers for certain questions but not able to insert your specific question because of the recording answer not pointing out your real concern. That's what is happening with Gary's phone system. Because of man-work labor issues we didn't receive pool service for almost two weeks. They don't communicate with customers and don't ask if there is an issue with timing of service and if someone is actually home to receive any service. I actually told Gary's not to send a pool tech, but a pool tech showed up anyway because he never got the message. They offer trinkets of restitution in hopes to pacify the customer but seriously if their service is poor to begin with why stay and await the next problem? When I tell them of their issues they tell me this will be brought up in their next meeting, screw their next meeting ! That is how their problems are dealt with, in their next meeting... Management is the problem they just don't care.. read more

Sure, you could go off to other, larger places and get zero personal service or you could stop by Gary's and have a smart time shopping for pool supplies. Gary's has sold. New ownership.....increased prices, and most of the original staff have left. I fired them after doing business for 30 years, and was able to replace the pool service. Sadly the new ownership does not compare to the original Gary's. read more

Honest, honest and honest!! I called this afternoon and spoke with Scott because I was having an issue with my pool pump. My initial thought and assessment was that my pump burned out. I called to get an estimate for a new pump and installation. Scott asked a few questions and even made a few recommendations for a pump which sounded somewhat reasonable. However, Scott then began to ask additional questions about my existing pump and what was occurring. While on the phone, he asked me to physically inspect the pump. He then asked me to remove the cover to the motor run capacitor. I am far from being an electrician and Scott safely guided me through removing the part. I drove to the store and met with him. He checked the part and determined it was faulty. The part cost me less than $60.00. I returned home, installed the part and my pump was repaired. Thankfully, Scott is an honest man! He saved me over a thousand dollars!!! I would highly recommend this Gary's pool supply and I will definitely be buying all of my pool supply needs from this business! read more

The service at Gary's is why my family has continued to frequent their store since the late 80's. Just this last week my thermostat went out on my heater. (at least I thought) Scott sent someone right out to Investigate. Turns out it was the thermostat, and it needed to be replaced. They had the part in a day and replaced while I was at work. They even applied the original diagnosis fee to the total hours, and I was back enjoying my spa for under a couple hundred bucks! First of all, wanted to thank David from store/office as he patiently explained how to run my pool pump by looking at the pump pictures that i showed him as I just moved into new house and had no idea how to operate my own pool pump. Secondly, another David who is the technician came over to my house to fix some of the things at my pool pump and show me how to run the waterfall as I have no clues. He patiently figured it out and even suggested me to modify some water pipe (at very reasonable charges) at my pool pump to run more water from the waterfall. He needed to come 3 different times to complete the work as additional tools were required to get it done. Thank you both David(s) to make my pool running smoothly and truly appreciated. Outstanding service and fantastic prices. I have check with many other and yes larger pool equipment suppliers. I was either given an outrageous price tag or was trying to be upsold on equipment I didn't need. I walked in here, told them my issues with old gear and they said they have x,yz and z for me and that was it. Calculated the price and coordinated a date for install. I live in Chino Hills right down the street from a competitor. Last week I needed some filter grids and then yesterday I needed a manifold for my DE filter as I was having an issue with all my DE blowing back into the pool. These guys at Gary's are very nice and know their stuff. I do not mind the extra drive to when their prices are much better than the big chain, not to mention their friendliness. Wow I didn't expect a pool place to have such exceptional service. When my pool guy quite I figured I better start learning to manage the pool myself. Connor was super helpful when I walked in with my plastic water cup. He tested my water, answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable! He even offered to check out my zodiac pool sweep to ensure I bought the right part. I live within walking distance to Leslie's pool supplies but have never felt as happy and welcomed as I did at Gary's. That's definitely my new pool shop. These guys aren't pushy at all and didn't want to walk around and show me all their pool pumps and expensive items.
