We live out-of-town but definitely go there when we are visiting Starved Rock. Food great, atmosphere inviting, and staff helpful and pleasant. Stopped by for dinner at 8:25 pm and waited for a hostess. When one arrived she politely said let me check to see if the kitchen is still open. She returned and said I am sorry it isnt open. The place was nearly full. So many better options to choose from so we opted for Blue Margharitta which was fantastic. read more

Old school vibes. Cool bar. Though they do not let you eat dinner at the bar. Only place I've ever been where you cannot eat dinner at the bar. Cocktails a bit inconsistent. read more

Before I say anything the SERVICE there is hands down the BEST SERVICE EVER!!!! It was our 1st time there so we had lots of questions and they were amazing. Very kind and very generous! Now food was ok at best. I would suggest getting the "special" as that was pretty good but the food off of the menu was sub par at best. The bread was delicious and the ranch dressing was really good. The ambiance was ok a little in the dark and dingy side and had a musty odor in the dining room, but I guess that is expected at a supper club. we never went into the bar but the drinks we order were also perfection! read more

When going to our table we walked under the heat vent blowing cold air. We sat at our table and felt a draft. I think they had the air on. We ate with coats on & as did other patrons. We had dinner and was not impressed. Food was cold, chicken was over cooked & dry. The salad is plain ice burg lettuce, that's it, no tomato, cucumber, nothing. For the price they charge they should take better pride in what they serve. It's not the first time we've had a bad meal there and I can say we will not be back. read more

We just got back from there, eating for the first time in several years. This location was closed for quite some time, and just recently opened. Service was amazing! Food was extra good! I'll admit, I went here several years ago and always thought they were good, but now they definitely are even better. Truly suggest stopping here if you ever want a great meal, at a reasonable price. Ate here years ago, this was first time since new owners. Heard still as good as years before. Always enjoyed the salad with their oil, vinegar and garlic dressing, that has not changed! Still excellent! Ordered froglegs as an appetizer not impressed, only three legs to order breading too thick falls off of legs. My mouth was watering for walleye the special for the night, again disappointed, same breading as froglegs also found small bones. Hope they don't use the same breading for their chicken. My daughter in law and granddaughter ordered pasta dishes, small servings for the price, seems like they received half orders. Service was good and friendly waitresses! I am so happy that Garzanelli's is not only BACK but does not appear to have lost a single thing from before! Service is excellent...They aren't dealing with the staffing shortages that other places are suffering from...wonder why? Hmmm. I can't think of another instance where ownership changed and, hell, the place closed for 3+ years, and everything was just as good as it was. The chicken is still moist and delicious. The salads and dressings are the same. Onion rings? Pizza? Pasta? You guessed it. Same great supper club! I gotta think it's because either they kept the old gang together, or trained them really well. Go back to Garzanelli's! It's really, really good! read more

We've been getting food here since they reopened. Sauce is different than before, now portions and quality seem to be going down. Had takeout tonight, chicken was bland, 3 family style orders of chicken left us with small portions of ravs/spaghetti. What we got for 3 people was about what we got for 1 in previous trips. Ordered 2 pizzas, one was burnt to a crisp, ever should have been sent out. It was the most disappointing experience we've had there, not nearly worth the cost. read more

Today was my first time at Garzanelli's, but let me tell you, it won't be my last. Everything was fantastic, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the staff. Our waitress was very patient and attentive and was always there when we needed her. I went on a Wednesday (7/7/2021) which was the night of their rib special. I got the full slab and it was so much food I had to take some home. The ribs were juicy and tender (they fell right off of the bone), and the sauce they were covered in was delicious. I highly recommend giving this place a try if you're ever in the neighborhood, you won't regret it! read more

Was at Starved Rock recently on a Thursday night. Heard great things about this place and was stoked to eat there. Parking was full when we arrived, which was a great sign. However we were very disappointed to get up to the front door only to see that they were closed for a "private party". Very disappointing. The food was amazing but the hospitality and service were beyond AWFUL! We went there for my birthday dinner for my 17th we were a party of 16. They started out starting to take our table down and down sizing it when we needed the whole table that they had set up, they then proceeded to throw my gifts on the floor and move my cake and everything around. Then when they took our orders I ordered family style and forgot to tell them that I was allergic to Marinara and when I brought it up to the waitress she acted like it was an inconvenience to her Then when everyone got their food I was left sitting with no chicken and the waitress told me I had ate it already plate and all. We then were told we needed to hurry up as we had been there too long and we had only been there for maybe an hour and a half and other people needed our tables and I legit just got my chicken out because the forgot about me and started to open one present. They then proceeded to be rude to my friend that was there who had a HAIR in her food and was told that she would have to pay for it if she took it home but she wasn't taking it home they literally. And made her cry I am so appaled This it was my first time there and will definitely be the last cause they literally ruined my birthday dinner . We booked my daughters 17th Birthday dinner here over a month ago, was told we would have a side of the dining room all to ourself. We had gone from about 22 people down to 16 (due to a death in someone's family). I had asked if a cake table n gift table would be available and was told yes it would be no problem. Once we arrived & had the cake table & gift table set up & our guests started arriving, a lady came over & asked if they could take one of the tables away and put the cake & gifts together. They ended up literally putting my daughters gifts on the floor! WTH!! Then the lady started taking 1 of our tables they had put together for our guests. I told the lady that would not work & they put it back. Then she literally proceeded to ask me if this empty chair was being used & that one, and that one etc. Now I will say they were nice enough to open up for us at 3pm instead of 4pm (which is their usual open time) and we really appreciated that. We did have some late arrivals and were not under the impression that we would need to get there right at 3pm & order right away, eat n get out (as they knew it was a birthday party)! The dining rooms area where they put us at a long table all together was very cramped as they were seating other people at small 4 people tables next to our large group! Now my Uncle is in a wheelchair & there was NO WAY my poor Aunt could have gotten him to the bathroom or out from where he was seated had she needed to. We had 2 people who had ordered family style chicken and did not receive that, just received chicken. When they brought it up to the waitress, instead of correcting it (as I heard the guest order it correctly myself) the waitress got a bit snotty & said well I only have you 2 down for just chicken. One of the 17 yr old girls (my daughters friend) found a hair in her KIDS CHICKEN STRIP that wasnt hers & they didnt even offer to replace her food, just told her if she takes it to go that she has to pay for it! Then my daughter ( who turned 17 and was the reason we were there anyway) forgot to mention during ordering she was allergic to marinara sauce on the pasta. . So when they brought it to her she kindly asked the waitress if she could get pasta w Alfredo sauce instead & even told the waitress that she apologizes but she forgot to mention it w/ all the excitement & stuff going on. The waitress proceeded to tell the guest of honor (my daughter) that she would have to talk to the kitchen! WTH! REALLY!!? The Bday girl literally opened 1 gift & hadn't even gotten her chicken yet (cause the waitress thought she had brought her chicken out but had brought my 9 yr old sons instead) & when my daughter asked for her chicken . .the waitress accused her of pretty much eating the chicken already plus the plate & bones. Then the owner came over & asked if we could hurry up cause they needed our tables for other guests! So we had to box up her food and take it home along w her gifts and gave people cake as they were leaving cause they wanted us to leave for other customers!! NEVER EVER EVER HAVE WE BEEN TREATED like pure crap! My poor daughter was in tears as we left!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU INTEND TO VISIT W/ YOUR GUESTS cause they expect you to order, eat & leave which would have been nice if they would have told us that to begn with!!! Or if we had just showed up unannounced w/ a large group but they knew it was a special occassion & then to act that way to us!! NEVER WILL WE BE BACK!! Our guests were insulted, 2 17 yr Olds in tears & rude service and hospitality!! McDonalds would have treated us better!! read more

Great service from our server, Reagan. Very friendly staff. Very nice and nostalgic environment. Fried chicken was good, and so were the pickle fries, jalapeño poppers, and fried cauliflower. Pasta was OK, but overcooked and not well-drained as there was a pool of watery sauce at the bottom of the bowl. Salad was literally just a plate of chopped iceberg and choice of dressing with no other toppings. Beer selection was limited to domestic bottles, no draft.
